Doc in Alberta said no proof of sucess with lap-band in Alberta

Hi Andrew, Well I did it! I told my doc I was scheduled in for surgery and much to my surprise she was quite excited for me. She said she may even want to refer patients to Dr. Kirshenbaum if she is happy with my results. She explained that she was unable to refer me in Alberta because I don't have over 100 lbs to lose. Where they fail to reason is the fact that I'm 5' 0" and weigh 230 which puts my bmi at 45. If I was 5' 9" and had a bmi of 45 I'd weight 297 and have over 100 lbs to lose. I think the relevancy of bmi should be the first factor combined with co-morbidities. Otherwise the shorties like me are getting the short end of the stick. Let’s face it losing 90 lbs is still a lot of weight especially when you’re short!!! Thanks for the support!! Pamela -
Thea, If price is one of the considerations for you, check out Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, his price is $9,950 US. I'm being banded by him April 23rd and there another lady and her daughter from GP being banded April 2nd and 3rd. Definately something to consider besides Mexico.

Hi Argon! I'm just glad you're aware of the possible affects!! Not everyone researches the meds that go into their bodies. I hope it works for you. By the way the pics are great - I sure hope my success comes close to yours - you should feel very proud! Pami

Wow Pip! Congrats on your surgery and you success so far!!! How was your post-op experience? I think that's the part that make me the most nervous. Keep up the great work! Pami

Please check with another doc on the Paxil as it "can" be addictive and dangerous.... Some docs won't even prescibe it anymore. I actually though it had been taken off the market.

Hi All, Haven't we all talked to the doc who insisted eat less and exercise more..... I'm scared when I tell my doc I'm scheduled for surgery that she'll give me the boot. It's next to impossible to find a doc in Calgary. -
Hi Andrew, I want to congratulate you on your success!! You should be very proud! I'm a fellow Calgarian who's booked to have surgery with Dr. Kirshenbaum in April and seeing photos of you gives me such hope. Do you have any regrets at all?? Pamela

I must say sphynxmomma that I am totally with lizzieann on this one. I for a brief moment considered Mexico and then thought to myself; I don't speak fluent Spanish, their standards are considerably "different" than ours, you're a long way from home if something happens and medical bills can pile up in a hurry. I suggest you talk to Natalie at Dr. Kirshenbaums office, she's a great lady and in fact has been banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum herself! You are also much closer to home, you speak the language and there isn't much of a cost difference. In the end the decision is yours but make sure you do your homework!!

Good Afternoon Ladies, After two years of looking around I have finally made the decision to be banded, I am going to Dr. Kirshenbaum as well. My surgery is scheduled for April 23. I found that the decision was very tough as there is a lot of very good docs out there! My hubby however put his foot down (which doesn't happen very often) when I mentioned going to Mexico. GOOD LUCK ON THE DECISION!!
