is this typical? NO restriction at all

I was banded in April 2008. As all of you, I was thinking "why can I still eat?" My surgeon told me this is normal. You usually don't feel restricted until your 2nd or 3rd fill. Believe me...I was definitely restricted! So keep making good food decisions and chew, chew, chew! I tend to forget to chew my food until it's liquid and well, remember shortly after when it's stuck and I'm wanting to PB. Congrats to you all for being banded! Good luck on your weight loss journey! :hurray:
  4. I try to work out at least 3 x a week. Also, meet with a trainer for an hour per week. She helps me with the machines and free weights at the gym. I can tell you I am no athlete and hate exercising. But per my trainer if I can do at least 3 days of cardio will help. She's right! Although she's toned me up..slowly, I can tell the inches are disappearing. So the treadmill and aerobic classes are my thing. :-)
  5. I have been a diabetic for 10 yrs. Take 3 insulins and 2000mg Metformin a day. Before pre-op, my blood sugars stayed very high...200-300. Once I started the pre-op diet, BG's dropped, sometimes even too low. Now that I have been banded for 3 wks, I take less insulins and metformin. My morning BG's are usually around 120-150. The Dietician (also a Diabetes nurse) said that's ok. The more weight loss and exercise we do throughout our journey, will determine how quickly we can kick these meds to the curb! Good luck!!
  6. In the hospital I had morphine. I was given liquid Hydrocodone, which has Tylenol in it once I came home.Only took a few doses though.

    I'm not losing weight

I was banded 3 weeks ago too. Have stopped losing and feel like I have gained some lbs back. The doctor told me the day of surgery this is completely normal. He told me not to get discouraged because once you get the fill, you'll begin losing again. I stopped stepping on the scale every morning because I was getting depressed. Plus-if you're working out (even walking) we're toning up. Muscle weighs more than fat. Also, we must remember we didn't put all the weight on over night.
  8. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks post op for me. I am on soft foods now. As long as I chew everything really well and take small bites, I've been ok. No vomit episodes for me yet. My first fill is May 19 and I am so excited. I feel hungry at times and know I can't eat much. I've also been walking a mile every day. Tomorrow I'll increase it to 1 1/2 miles.

Need some advice on what to eat

I always carry a bottle of water with me to sip...even before being banded 4/22/08. So I found New Whey liquid protein at Vitamin Shoppe. I prefer Fruit Punch flavor. It is a test tube of 3.1 fl oz you mix with water. This one test tube has 42g of Protein, 0 fat/sugar. They're easy to fit in your purse or bag.

    Glucophage takers

I split mine in half otherwise it would get stuck. My pharmacist said it was ok. I'm hoping to kick all the insulin and oral med quickly!! :-) Good luck!

    day 4 post-op

I am 7 days post op and felt the same way until 2 days ago. Gas X strips are great! I've also read some replies in other places where some have sipped hot peppermint tea. As Lovinmomof3 suggested, walking helps and the pain will go away in a few days.
  12. Oh thank goodness!! It's been 5 days post op and I thought I was the only one suffering. I will confess I cheated and had some mushies, but felt like crap afterward. Gas has finally settled somewhat. But not sure how many more days of the liquid stuff I can do.

    Type 2s off of insulin/medication?

Hello. I had lap band on Tuesday (4/22). While in the hospital overnight I was on small units of insulins. My blood sugars were out of control before ranging between 400-200. I take 50 units of Levemir 2xday, 30 units of Symilin 2x day, and 20 units of Novolog 3x day, along with 1000 mg Metformin 2x day. Today, I contacted my Diabetes nurse and asked for guidance since my sugars are dropping with the liquid diet. I am hoping to eliminate all meds asap!! :-)
  14. Pam, couldn't sleep, up a little early, thought I'd get on board. Noticed that today is YOUR day- it's MINE too!!! I wish you the best! Hope all goes well! Jeanie B.
