Chicagoland Lap Band Doc & Plastic Surgeon neeeded!!
Melodyann replied to Mia26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mia26- Synchrony in Oak Brook takes transfer patients and has plastic surgeons in the office. If, by chance, your surgery was done by Dr Pinnar in VA, there is a good relationship between the offices, also. -

Melodyann replied to pschmolle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I self paid too. I took out a personal loan for two years and it has been so worth it. I would do it all over again. I am in Illinois too and was banded by Dr Watkins! -
Yes I was banded by Dr Watkins in Ohio and he also owns Synchrony Health. Dr Watkins is wonderful and you will be in very good hands.

Stretched out pouch?
Melodyann replied to jbcohenpa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
personally, i really think you just don't have enough restriction. Especially since you say nothing even gets stuck. The APL does hold 14, and since you have 4 in now, I am thinking you just need more. I really don't think there is a problem with your band at all. Good luck! let me know what happens tomorrow! -
Stretched out pouch?

it seems like you have lost weight, you must be doing something right? do you know what kind of band you have? Maybe its a bigger one that needed more to get to restriction. Or are you washing your food down and drinking while you eat? that could do it too. -
Stretched out pouch?
Melodyann replied to jbcohenpa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it depends on how much you are vomiting. if you are overeating and vomiting, you may have stretched it. if you are overeating and it is going down, you need a fill. The only way to know if you stretched it is by having a barium swallow, which is done under xray. if you did stretch it, it can be resolved but you will need an unfill and you will need to watch what you eat. My surgeon says that if you are not vomiting, you aren't stretched out. -
Heatherlee- Do you mean fluoro? He can, but normally he does not. He's been doing bands for years and has found its really not necessary unless there's a problem. Which I'm hearing is what other surgeons are starting to do. He says because he would rather get the patients input on their restriction instead of relying on the xray-and every patient is different, some do well with being at a certain fill while others may find it uncomfortable or even too loose! but he is very good, normally just one stick and he has awesome bedside manner! Such a sweetheart! Are you in IL? His office is in Oak Brook.

I did have reflux before I was banded. My surgeon found a hiatal hernia during my surgery, which I figured I had, because of the reflux. Usually when your band surgeon finds a hiatal hernia during band surgery, they will repair it then. Mine was also repaired during my band surgery and I have not had reflux since. Others that I know, who were also banded by my surgeon, say the same, no more reflux. When you have reflux after the band, chances are, you are just too tight.

You should call your surgeon's office. You are going to dehydrate! I know its terrible but even little sips of water help.

band and hiatle hernia ?
Melodyann replied to justicenyce's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I also had a hiatal. It's really common for surgeons to find this type of hernia during Band surgery. It will need to be fixed - usually during your banding. The only thing for me was after surgery I had lots of back and shoulder pain. Nothing that held me back from doing anything, but just uncomfortable. This was probably due to the hiatal, mine was the size of a lemon. The back and shoulder pain after laparoscopic surgery is a referred pain from the diaphragm. Which is where a hiatal occurs. But now I have no more reflux! -
Sorry to hear about that! But stay calm! I think the radiologist was probably wrong. You would be surprised at how many medical professionals are not in tune with the Band. Wait to talk to your Band surgeon before getting too upset. Good Luck!

Yes, no kidding! No strings attached either. Group is at 10:30am, next one is 5/3.

I was banded by Brad Watkins, MD. He has an office in Oak Brook, IL, Synchrony Health, which is a ways from you, but he is a great surgeon! He has a wonderful bedside manner and is very soothing and honest. Good Luck!
