    Knockouts October Updates

kcintx- Sorry for the delay, but have been off-line for a few days. At first I had to have a small amount of Fluid removed, then a little more and was given an RX of Prevacid 30mg 1x per day. Had the slight unfill for about a month, and now after having an EGD to make sure my band was okay, my Dr. has cleared me for a new fill, but I can only get .10cc at a time now. He said that some bandsters are more sensative to larger fills or being filled too quickly and creates problems. Your numbers are impressive. I hope you get some relief soon because I truly know the misery you're experiencing. Good luck.

    Knockouts October Updates

I normally lurk around and don't post, but I am glad to have come across this thread. I've been so guilty of the 'comparison game' that I think it has affected my rate of weightloss. Now, I'm no longer stressing over it. I'm just so grateful that I've come this far as I think back to last year this time when I was totally miserable. Now that my acid reflux problems are under control, there's definitely light at the end of the tunnel. I am less than 100lbs. from my goal!! Thank you all for being so supportive.

    Do you eat popcorn?

I absolutey love movie theater popcorn!!! Haven't had it much because I just don't crave it the same, but still have it ocassionally. The main culprit to avoid by my Dr. was soda and white breads and sugar.

    acid reflux

Bexlygal- No you are not the only one! I experienced the same problem. I never had reflux prior to being banded and once I reached what I though to be my sweet-spot, which was 7.1cc's in a 10cc band, everything went haywire. Couldn't rest, hard to catch breath, sore throat, etc. At first I thought it was a sinus infection, got a slight unfill. Nothing. Went to PCP and he immediately said I should get an unfill, even though he recommended a complete unfill, my lapband doc suggested a partial to see how things worked. Took out another .25 and suggested I take Prilosec OTC every morning. That worked wonders, and two weeks later, I was able to get another small fill. Now I'm at 6.5 and have started losing again with increased exercise. My laband doc will only do my fills in increments of .10 or less at this point. Now I chew 1 pepcid complete in the morning and before bedtime and I'm doing fine. I have an appt. tomorrow and will ask for a teeny-weeny fill, because I think I'm finally at a good place. Hope you feel better soon, but if you have to get an unfill, don't stress over it because reflux can lead to so many more serious issues. I'd rather be a slow loser than one with an eroded esophagus or throat cancer!!! Take care.

    HELP - I'm getting complacent!

Congratulations on your weightloss! Losing that amount of weight in such a short time is amazing. Perhaps you don't realize it, but you do exercise. Parking further away, taking the steps, etc. All activities don't have to be done in a gym setting. Just moving your body more is exercise. As for the complancency, we all tend to get a little comfortable when the compliments start rolling in, we can wear old clothes or smaller clothes, and people start giving the "you don't need to lose anymore pep talks". Don't be too hard on yourself. The good thing about the band is that as long as you're not gaining, you can take a little "break" from working it 100% and still lose weight. Even though the loss will come at a much slower rate. If you didn't set an original timetable for yourself and you're not gaining weight, don't sweat it. That next "a-ha" moment will come and you'll get motivated again! Take care.

    Why Does It Not Work

I pretty much think it's all been covered, but I wanted to add that I felt the same way in the beginning because I am a slow loser. And now I've come to realize that's partly because I had too much restriction and made poor food choices. Along with following the rules, you should learn to listen to your body. I didn't have acid reflux prior to being banded and have developed it since because of being too tight. Luckily, things are much better now with a slight unfill and pepcid complete. The scale is finally moving again. It does work and I wouldn't give it back for anything in the world! Not even the $17,400 I paid to get it!!!

Georgia Girl- Congrats on your weightloss!!! I just noticed that your ticker moved!!! I'm not sure about the support meeting yet, as I have an appointment on the 8th. To go back on the 9th may be a push!!! If I choose to come, I'll have to bring someone who hasn't been banded as a traveling buddy because it's about a two hour drive for me.

    Non-Scale Victories!!

Chrisann-Congrats on your NSV!!! That is waaaaayy cool!
  21. I have developed acid reflux since being banded in January. It had gotten so bad that it made my voice hoarse!! Had a slight unfill, started taking Prilosec OTC and felt better. That was a month ago. Got a fill three days ago, and can now feel it again. I'm even starting to get that burning throat sensation again. Will go in for a slight unfill on Monday. Really wish I had gone today, so that my weekend would be better. In the meantime, I'm going to try the Pepcid Complete.

Dr. John Bagnato - Bagnato Bandits

Hello and Welcome Kristi- I live in Dublin, so this board has been my saving grace! I'm in Macon nearly every/every other weekend, so perhaps we can meet. As a matter of fact, I went up to the New Dillard's off Riverside this morning!!! I've been fortunate enough to meet Mia and Jeannie. Perhaps the OTC will form some type of support group soon. You've done very well with your weightloss. I wish you continued success.

Mia-Great for you! I hate walking outside, but love the treadmill although I haven't done much of that the last few weeks. Gotta get my motivation back. I noticed your ticker is moving again! Almost 70 pounds. That's wonderful. Keep up the good work.
