Just wondering if spaghetti is considered a mushy food since the noodles are soft. Did anyone eat this 2 weeks post-op?

Lap-Band just as hard as dieting . . .
mindyemt08 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay! I am so frustrated right now I can't stand it. It seems like I would have the same results if I never had the band. I have to eat the same things as I did pre-op to lose weight. My weight loss is based solely on willpower right now. I know the band is a tool to help but I would like to have something other than eggs, tuna and salmon. Help! Will it get better after a fill? Im so irritated. Any advice is welcomed! -
I am on the mushy stage and I just started. I ate 3 scrambled eggs and a few small bites of tuna w/ mayo. Im not worried about the calories from the mayo or anything, but I wonder if I ate too much. I felt just perfect when I stopped (not too full) but I am worried about wether that amount could stretch my pouch. It was the first time since surgery that I actually felt satisfied. Any thoughts?

Anyone tolerate toasted bread very well pre-fill?

For those with BMI 35-40?

My BMI was 34 when I went into surgery and I got the same response. If I had to do it all over again, I would just tell family. -
Pre Op Liquid Diet
mindyemt08 replied to Kittenqutie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What the heck is it with the unrealistic 3 weeks liquid then 3 weeks mushy diets? How unreasonable. I know every doctor is different but Singinmusicchic - I totally feel for you and everyone else that has to go through that. Best of luck to you cuz I couldn't do it for that long. You must have great willpower! -
Do you feel the band?
mindyemt08 replied to ronwifey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 1/10/08. This is how recovery went for me. For 24 hours after surgery I had very sharp "gas" pains that came and went almost like contractions. I guess they fill you up with a form of gas during surgery to work around things. This pain was totally unexpected for me but pretty common. The incision pain lasted for 3-4 days (of course it is still tender now but nothing that stops you from doing anything). The only pain I currently have now is where my port is sewn into my stomach muscle about 6 inches to the left of my belly button. Port pain and tenderness has by far been the worst pain and longest lasting. I have not returned to work yet only because I am an EMT and have to do lots of heavy lifting. Had I had an office job, I could have easily returned to work within 4-5 days. Some things that increase my pain where my port is, is sneezing, coughing and bending over. Also, I have recently started lying and sleeping on that side and not being able to was a nuisance. I do not feel my port at all but I think some people do as they lose weight and get smaller around the waist. You feeling nothing actually around your stomach but you do feel food actually going down. It's kind of weird. Take care, good luck and CONGRATULATIONS! -
question about the steri strips....
mindyemt08 replied to ch4251's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor gave me instructions to remove them on day 5. They came off just fine! -
I am 2 weeks post-op and feeling better everyday. last night I was watching American Idol. I laughed so hard at one point I hurt myself where my port is. It felt like (not that it was) I pulled the muscle there. Has this happened to anyone. Now it is sore and I feel like my healing has backslided. Do you think I hurt myself? Just irritated it? Thanks
-
If you are totally healed at 6 weeks, why can't they just fill (or nearly fill) the band at that time? Well, even 2-3 cc's at a time. What is up with most people getting 3-5 fills before they hit their sweet-spot?

This is what works for me. Im not saying it's law. I went on the Slim4Life diet a few years ago. During the first 3 days, the rule is "The more you eat, the more you lose" (of meat, eggs etc). I meant to eat eggs for a day or two as a plateau breaker and did not mean to eat 20 eggs. That is something that has helped me and something that was referred to me by a very popular and supervised diet plan. It was a suggestion that may help her jump start some weight loss and meant as nothing more.
-
I'd like to try it. Can anyone give me the particulars on it? Thanks
-
What has always helped me, even pre-band, is if you are still hungry, try eating something where the more you eat, the more you lose. For example, scrambled eggs. If you eat lots of these (or even overeat - though I am not saying to do that) you will still lose weight because of the protein. Just do that for about 2 days and you may get over this plateau you have hit. Just a suggestion. Good luck! I totally feel for you and sincerely hope something helps. As we all know, for overweight people, feeling hungry and unsatisfied is just about the worst feeling in the world. Keep up the good work and God bless!

Gas Feeling or Full Feeling?
mindyemt08 replied to mia31771's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am the EXACT same as you. I am new so I am not sure if it will last forever or what. I have read alot on here about people burping. It seems to be that about half the people burp all the time (way more than pre-op) and about half cannot burp at all. I am one that cannot burp at all even though I feel like I have to. I take gas-x and that really seems to help the gassy feeling. I am just worried about what to do when I go back to work. LOL It doesn't seem to be brought on by any particular kind of food. Just anything I eat. Is that the same for you? -
Reaction to being "severly obese"
mindyemt08 replied to kat_in_GA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You absolutely 'CAN' be too overweight for lap-band AND gastric by-pass. I am not sure what the BMI is, but you can be too large. I believe the risk goes up significantly if your BMI is over a certain point. I just saw on the TV show Intervention this week, a guy was 546 lbs., was addicted to food and no one would do surgery for him. FYI -
Eat whatever you want before your pre-op diet but make sure you stay on the pre-op diet for as long as they tell you too. But ANYTHING should be game before that!

Struggling with Postop Diet - Help Me!
mindyemt08 replied to Jeni's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought cream of chicken soup "with herbs" and it was much tastier than just the regular stuff. I added just half a cup of water and it was thicker and lasted with me longer. I was still thin enough to drink. Also, you might try some really soupy mashed potatoes. That really stuck with me. Good Luck! -
Several Genreal Questions in one Thread!!!
mindyemt08 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok. I have a couple threads out there and it is hard to try to keep track of them all so I thought I would ask a few questions in one place. I feel like these are general and may help lots of newbies. Any answers/advice is appreciated. 1. How do you know if something gets stuck and if it does, how do you dislodge it? How small should a pill be to swallow it whole without having to mash it up? 2. Why are we suddenly gassy after eating when that wasn't a problem before and why can't I burp AT ALL? 3. I am running on willpower now with my food intake. I am eating things that I should but I am having no problems keeping things down. Am I normal to not have PB and slime problems? I guess that should be good for now. Thanks a bunch and I hope this helps out others too. I know I have many more questions but I can't think if 'em right now. Thanks again! -

mindyemt08 replied to AshleeSuzanne's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on 1/10/08. Very minimal pain after surgery but watch out for the gas pain. Yikes! That was the worst part. Good luck! I love mine. Down 18 lbs. -

help me narrow down mexico surgeon choice
mindyemt08 replied to djpfeils's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had surgery 1/10/08 with Dr. Rumbaut. I could recommend highly enough. Awesome experience. He is THE MOST EXPERIENCED lap-band dr in the entire western hemisphere. I recommend him 100%. Just my opinion and experience though. -
I was banded in Monterrey Mexico on 1/10/08. I could not have been happier with my choice to go to Dr. Roberto Rumbaut. The whole process was very impressive, their staff and patient care were WONDERFUL etc. Going to Mexico was very scary but I was treated better with there than any hospital experience I ever had in America. If anyone is self-pay, considering going to Mexico for surgery, and has any questions about this DR., don't hesitate to ask. Just curious about other peoples experiences with him and wondering if they were just as happy or if anyone had any problems.

Going in any last minute advice?
mindyemt08 replied to tink128's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best advice is just follow your pre-op diet and recovery will be much easier. Eating before surgery makes your liver larger and can cause more pain. Also, post-op diet sucks so prepare mentally for that. Good luck and Congrats! It is SSSSOOOOOOOO worth it! -
Did I eat too much at once?
mindyemt08 replied to mindyemt08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, 3 eggs is just a little over a cup. -

Actually my metabolism sucks but eggs are full of protein so I would lose alot on a high protein low carb diet.
