  1. TommyO, you know we don't allow name-calling. Nor can we see every post, or sometimes even pages of posts. If you've been called a name, please report it.

    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see these "Help!!!!!!!!!!" posts and think someone must be near death. But no, you have a 2 week stall. Sometimes you can't do much to get things going again, weightloss stalls. Typically around weeks 2 - 4, but often much later than that. Stalls go for a week to 4, typically. Think of it as your body readjusting. Our bodies are designed to hold on to fat. They have very strong mechanisms in place for resisting fat loss. Sometimes you can just wait for those to give up a bit. Outside of that, try the generic "maybe stall breakers" - up your Protein, Water, exercise, switch up the foods you're eating if you're sticking to the same ones, etc.
  3. From what you're saying, she's approving you for the surgery, but you're concerned she won't let you have it? Tell her you want to work on a program of behavioral change to get new behaviors in place before the surgery, so that you have that many fewer to worry about post-op, and perhaps have some basis for understanding how to change your behaviors after the fact. Talking to someone and getting past it doesn't often work. An action plan will go much farther.
  4. Hmm, misunderstood that. I don't think I asked anything other than how much for them to not kill me. Jokingly, as a former wannabe anesthesiologist... and it wasn't appreciated. Hopefully you can find some good input.
  5. The AGB (adjustable gastric banding, which includes lap-band) is not the same as what I've heard called "the ring", which is not adjustable. I just posted about this to another thread, I'm sure it's there if you poke around. Everyone who's like over 12, noteably fat, fat for longer than say a year, doesn't have pristine genetics, etc. is going to have problems with sagging skin. The speed of the weightloss has a lot less to do with it than people think. Do you have stretchmarks? If you have stretchmarks, you're probably going to have sagging skin.

    Non-adjustable Bands

Another example of a purely restrictive bariatric procedure is nonadjustable gastric banding. It was first introduced in 1978 by Wilkinson, who applied a 2 cm Marlex mesh round the upper part of the stomach and separated the stomach into a small upper pouch and the rest of the stomach. Eventual pouch dilatation resulted in unsatisfactory weight loss. In 1980, Molina described the gastric segmentation procedure, in which a Dacron vascular graft was placed around the upper stomach. The gastric pouch was smaller than Wilkinson’s procedure. Because the Dacron graft produced adherence of the liver to the band, it was replaced ultimately by PTFE (Gortex®). In 1983, Kuzmak began using a 1 cm Silicone® band to encircle the stomach, creating a 13 mm stoma and a 30-50 mL proximal gastric pouch. This band was later modified to provide adjustability of the band diameter using an inflatable balloon (“Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding”).
  7. I don't believe we have any anesthesiologists here, perhaps some team members, I don't know. I would suggest calling the anesthesiologist who will do your surgeon's/your procedure and asking them. You may not get (reliable, if any) answers here.

    New Formatting Complaint

Well, it is Alex's board, not ours, and he can set it up however he wants. If he opts to put it back the old way, then he will take care of it. But if this is the new format, options are a little more limited. I would start by asking in a nicer way, and maybe explain to him why it bothers you outside of "I'm here for this not that".

Freaking out a little (clothing purge)

The best way I can describe it is that our fat clothes are a sort of security blanket to us. Perhaps because whatever we got from being fat is associated with the fat clothes, but probably more because -- damn, it took us a long time to find clothers period, and a longer time to find ones we could stand, so what happens if I get rid of these and end up getting fat again?

    Non-adjustable Bands

I know one person who has a non-adjustable band. She is not doing well with it. Her latest diagnosis was that her band had "shrunk" and essentially cut off her ability to get anything down. That was about 2 years ago. She refuses to go back to the surgeon for fear he will want to remove it, and she will get fat again (in all honestly she could gain about 15 lbs and still be a sz 0).

Do you have words that irritate you?

I cringe with "cunt," (used in any way) "dick" (used as anatomy reference), and "tit" (used any way, but especially by a female). I really do not say nor can I stand to hear someone else say those words. I don't like "comfy" - especially when people think it's "compfy". And I don't like "month" anymore because for some reason I seem to have developed a speech impairment that makes me say "munt" no matter how hard I try... so until I fix it, I'm not saying the word anymore.

    Flying, Weight and Discrimination...

I don't remember what size plane. Nothing as big as a 747, probably along the lines of a 737 or MD-80. And no, from a customer serivce standpoint the deal with my parents should have been handled differently. But I agree with the airline about having them end up in different seats. And crossed my fingers that they didn't have to buy 2nd seats, since I had paid for all 6 tickets already. But I would have understood it if they had required it. IMO, you pay for the space of your seat, not "comfort". If someone doesn't need their entire seat and doesn't mind you spilling into it, great. If there are empty seats and you can move next to one, great. But it is not right that customers who pay for the same seat you did get a half a seat because you're fat. (You generically, of course). However, fair is fair, and I think that if an airline is going to enforce the POS policy, they should put the same diligence into addressing the carry-on policy. I'm tired of seeing women come on with a pull-along, a huge purse, a bag of things they bought at the airport, their knitting bag, etc. If we're allowed one plus a small, then that's all you get, because it's not fair that someone else's ticket price ALSO included one bag plus a small, and now they have to check theirs because others took more space than they were entitled to.
  13. Most - 382, the day of surgery. Least - about 4lbs 5oz, the day of birth.

    Is it just a coincidence?

I'm kind of the opposite. Not so much as a sniffle since banding, whereas I normally get cold + bronchitis each spring, etc.

What is the easiest food to eat?

As for your title question, ask 20 ppl and get 20 answers. We're all so different/unique when it comes to food tolerances. Yes, very normal, especially since you're still in the learning phase and probably doing something different behaviorally that makes it seem like it's the food. But "having trouble eating" - does that mean it's causing pain/pressure, or that you're having to bring it back up? Also very common. I pretty much can't eat before lunch, and sometimes at lunch I'm lucky to get more than a few spoons of Soup. Lots of us omit Breakfast or go with liquids (even liquids can give pressure for me in the am). Perhaps try some hot tea, warm liquids seem to open up the area a bit. Protein drink Meal Replacement, but if you're talking about solid foods, again - 20 people will give you 20 answers. I have good luck with cooked turkey pepperoni chips, they seem to be my catch-all food.

    Symptoms of a flipped port?

Biggest symptom I know of is that the surgeon cannot access it for fills.

Don't mother's hold their babies anymore?

I can work from home, and usually do at least half the time, but I will still be taking our kid to daycare. I have to do conference calls, webinars, etc. and can't have lots of noise coming out on the other end. And there's no way I would trust myself to actually get work done with an infant/baby around. We considered a nanny or au pair, but eevn then the noise is still in the house, and I think I'd still be inclined to want to take care of things if I heard noise/crying. I will be taking off 3 months. We get 8 wks paid off, and I'll either use vacation or go unpaid for the last month.

Why can't pretty clothes be cheap?

I always forget about fashion bug, but I've gotten really cute dresses there, and a super cute dress/sweater combo. CATO may be another place to look if you have them, cheap.

    kids & bus stops

Sprinklers really aren't going to work between October-November and Mayish. And between then we get a blessed break during summer. The school system is supposed to be helping us. They won't move the bus stop (yet), and I don't know exactly what they did, but we'll see. We've been poking around at getting a larger house, so this may only be an issue for another year or so. Let's hope.

Why can't pretty clothes be cheap?

Target has been a blessing. If you have Gordman's try there. I get a lot of business casual tops for work there, and haven't paid over $20 for any of them. TJ Maxx, Marhsall's, etc. - they're all pretty much the same store.

    Flying, Weight and Discrimination...

Kind of depends. I flew with my husband, in-laws and parents a few months ago. My parents had planned to sit one of them with my husband and I, and one of them with my in-laws, so that they could have the space we weren't using. They knew they would be imposing on a stranger. Well, it didn't work out that way, and they ended up taking the emergency exit seats. No one said anything to them before the flight, even though they were at the gate nearly 4 hours early and clearly wuld not fit in the seats. No one said anything to them when they boarded or sat. Once the plane was loaded, my mother asked for a seatbelt extender and was told, "Well if your seatbelt won't fit you, you can't sit in the exit aisle." My dad wears a mens' 50 pant, and my mom is probably a 5x. It's *obvious* looking at them that the seatbelt won't fit them. Funny thing is, my husband overheard the stewards talking about my parents, and told me they were going to have to move before they actually did. Apparently one of them said something about "the really fat lady in the Eeyore suit and the guy with her" (my mom had on a purplish gray track suit). My parents didn't have to buy additional tickets, but they were called out on a fully loaded plane, the stewards asked for volunteers to sit next to them, and they were made to move/rearrange their seats before we could taxi. One other time there was a very large man on the right side of the plane, and they asked for volunteers to move to the left side to balance his weight out (yes, they said that). He & my parents are the only ones I've seen called out once actually boarded, but I've seen people addressed a handful of times at ticketing.

    Too heavy for banding??

I believe most surgeons cut off around BMI of 60. That's not to say they won't do it, just that they may require weightloss first. And there are always exceptions. For 190kg, about 178cm is the threshold for a BMI of 60.
