  1. Wow, that's a lot of pills. Have you looked into any of the bariatric Vitamins? I take three "Bariatric Fusion" vitamins a day (when I can fit three, sometimes I only have room for two, I'm still trying t juggle my sleeve capacity). I don't need any other supplements.

    Anyone Freak Out After Surgery

Most people have a "What the F did I just do to myself" moment. Especially when concepts like true, lifelong eating changes hit them. I had several years to prep for a sleeve and still have that feeling occasionally. It comes and goes. I know it will get better (this is my second bariatric surgery) so it's fairly easy for me to push it away. Usually it just takes seeing real, significant weightloss that you can't cognitively dismiss, and then it goes away.

    Time Off Of Work

There's another thread on this that came up about 10 mins ago. Read here for more input. Its a completely individual thing. Some people return to work in less than a week. Others take several weeks.
  4. Mine feels a bit like my throat is closing. My stomach may or may not hurt momentarily, too (just for a second or two, no more - almost like a gas pain). Feeling full usually comes after this feeling. So far I don't think I've taken one bit too many, but I'm too soon out to know for sure.
  5. I had surgery two weeks ago Tuesday and have not had any nausea at all.
  6. Here is something I posted previously: Here's another post with more information. HTH
  7. I will be two weeks out on Tuesday and could easily return to work then (I have a desk job). I could have returned after 1 week, but that's right when the energy sap hit me and I'm just today starting to feel like I'm getting over it. My surgeon gave me 4 weeks through my STD coverage, so I have about 2.5 weeks left.
  8. I'm fine with milk products, so far. I also just have an infant sleeve. Pre-op I had a small degree of lactose intolerance that actually set in during the 15ish years I chose not to drink milk. I was fine with it before. Now anything more than skim or a small amount of 1% leaves me with horrible gas for several hours. Post-op I've had skim and skim extra and no troubles.

    Should I Or Shouldn't I

I'll be 2 weeks out Tuesday. I've not tried mashed potatoes, but last night I did have a small amount of strained, low fat clam chowder with 4 - 5 of the potato pieces. It was canned, so the potatoes were mushy. I made some fish chowder today and had a few tbls of the broth, but no potatoes. The broth was too filling. I've been OKed on soft foods like mashed potatoes since day 4, I just can't do much of them since I struggle with enough capacity for protein/water.

    Leakage

It depends on your background, as mentioned above. For a "virgin" stomach I think it's about 3% (US stats current as of about 4 mos ago). If you're aback-to-back revision (removal/revision in the same procedure) risk jumps to about 30%. Revision with a waiting period between runs about 8% IIRC. I didn't memorize the numbers so these could be off, but their to the best of my memory. Stats will also vary source to source.

    Bad Breath?

Ketosis breath. DH and I were in the car yesterday and he kept asking me if I passed gas. I'm like, "Not since surgery..." Then he was trying to see if we were behind a cattle truck or something. Finally he's like, "It's your breath..." Thanks DH! Chewing parsley helps, but it's not very good. Other than that, "safe" breath fresheners like the Listerine sheets that meltaway are about all you can do.
  13. Pain tolerance also plays a role. I had quote a bit of pain freshly post-op because I had a lot of scar tissue and adhesions. My surgeon spent a little more than twice his average operative time just to get me fixed up before the sleeve. It took about 8 hours to get the pain under control, but I was on morphine... not a fan of the surge nurse who made that decision... I do much better on dilaudid. I'll be two weeks out on Tuesday. The side "instrument" incision still hurts. Well, not the incision itself, but about 3" further back. I have to bend down very slowly, and I can't comfortably twist or it gets a sort of hot poker feeling. I can sleep in bed but have to prop myself on about 4 pillows. I spent the first week sleeping in a recliner. Everything else feels fine. It doesn't hurt persistently, just when I move. My personal preference is to deal with the pain and stay clear-headed. The Lortab is hitting me a lot harder this time than it ever has before. Not caring for that one bit.
  14. All the above, plus regain stats with the sleeve are a lot lower than RNY.

    Gastric Bypass To Gastric Sleeve?

I've heard of it being done. It is not standard by any means. I think a DS would be the better option.

    Need Protein Information

I posted this a few days ago, it may help. I've not looked seriously into pea or hemp Proteins, but I don't think they're very good.

    Confused About Carbs

I mix mine with skim extra, 11g carbs per 8 oz. Or light soymilk. Protein drinks to me are horrible when mixed with Water, definitely worth the carbs. And milk/dairy is probably one of the only carbs you're going to have in any measurable amount for a while post-op, so no worries. I don't worry about the carbs from milk, or the fat from dairy (I hate low at dairy products). I'm not really a milk drinker, and didn't touch the stuff for about 15 years, so anything more than fat free is just gross to me. I opt for sugar free or low fat/fat free with just about everything else.
  18. This isn't in my guidelines, and I've left the nutritionist a message but she won't call back until Monday. I'm just curious, how long you waited before introducing spicy foods? I know that things like capsaicin can be irritants, I'm just curious what the average wait time is before reintroducing them. Without thinking yesterday I bought a bowl of hot and sour Soup (family wanted Chinese) thinking it's broth based, and the tofu/egg would be good eats, and I'd just strain out the rest. I didn't even think about it being too spicy, because I like things hot and to me this soup is not hot at all, but it probably is to most people. I got a two or three toddler spoonfuls in before it even dawned on me that the spice might be too much for the sleeve so I stopped and got a Water. I felt fine, but it left me wondering how long spicies should be postponed. Now I'm missing my vinegar and sriracha additives.
  19. Our bodies are being inundated with atypical levels of hormones right now. Think of what a little stress can do, let alone surgery, starvation-level weightloss, etc. The last day of my period was the day before surgery, so I have no idea how TOM will be affected, but I have Mittelschmerz Syndrome (it hurts me, some times a lot, to ovulate) and this morning had some tweaks that I associate with a lesser attack. But I don't (ever) ovulate this early, so who knows what our wacky systems are doing.

200 Pounds To Lose Is Doable

It's doable. With my lapband I went from about 390 to about 210. I had just cleared an 18 month stall and was on my way back down again, but found out I was pregnant. I was about 280 after giving birth, dropped down to about 250 a few months later with band complications, back up to about 290 when my band was taken out, and back up to about 345 when I had my sleeve (two weeks ago Tuesday). My goal will be in the 170 - 185 range which won't be quite 200 lbs, but if I'd regained all the weight I lost with my lapband, it's be over 200 lbs. Your skin is going to sag. There's really no way around it. I love a quote from my surgeon, "It is a matter fact. If you lose 150 pounds from an elastic organ such as skin, you’re going to have saggy skin."

    Acne?

I'm less than 2 weeks post-op. My chin is breaking out like a deep fat fried teenager. Acne to the sides of the chin is generally linked to hormones, which makes sense -- considering the changing hormone levels, body distress, etc. going on. I'm 36 and am broken out worse than when I was 14. In the span of 4 days, I've had 6 deep zits (the kind that just get big and red and never surface) pop up on my chin, and one on the little strip of skin between my nostrils. This bites.
  22. I was supposed to do Arixtra for 7 days, but I ended up having an undocumented allergic reaction to one of my meds, so they had no idea which it was... so they told me not to do the injections. I also got a heparin injection during my pre-op preparation. I'd told DH he was going to do the injections, and I think he psyched himself up (to be able to) so much that he was a little disappointed.
  23. Remember that poop is a waste product. Right now your body doesn't have a lot of waste. So what you're able to discard is much, much less. Your body also isn't good at converting liquids to solids, so expect to have diarrhea or very loose stool when it does happen. I was released from the hospital Wed of last week. My first poop was early Tue morning, pure liquid. My second was yesterday morning, mostly liquid and some pudding consistency. Not much at all. Haven't had poop #3 yet. Sorry if this is TMI, but it's an honest account of what you might expect (similar, anyway).

    Water And Protein

If you want your Protein drinks, and can have them, embrace it. You're in a special minority. I was able to have Protein Drinks on day 3. Wanting them as another story. I find myself not really wanting to eat or drink anything. I feel full all the time. I'm making myself do it, and I used to enjoy my protein drinks (with previous lapband surgery). I think the difference is being able to drink them normally vs. knowing I'm going to be sucking on the same protein drink ALL day long. It'll get better. food will be enjoyable, eventually!
