    Job news

Sorry 'bout the news Alex. Based on what you had shared, I figured you would be a shoe-in. Well - find comfort in knowing that regardless of what the person's qualifications are, I'm sure s/he is working for a salary you would have scoffed at.

Robin - margaritas are probably too band friendly!! Ruby Tuesday has a "low carb" margarita, which I learned the hard way is just made by watering down their normal amount of mixer.

Right around the hospital (that I can think of) there's a Greek place (Mr.Greek or Mr. Gyros, can never remember which), a Fuddrucker's (I don't do red meat but they have a great chicken salad)...what else...can't think off the top of my head but I'll check bacn in later tonight.

If it were up to you, what laws would you create?

Ok guys, wow. I'm all for a thread evolving, but I think we've hit that point where we're starting to go downhill. FYI in case things star tlooking strange I've requested the "pro-life/pro-choice" debate split into a separate thread so that my original thread can burn on like a candle in the wind.

You know the white oval country stickers like these: Brookside has their own that say "BKS" (Brookside) of a country code. I couldn't figure out what it meant and had to ask someone.

Oh yeah, I'm bouncing back and forth on the fill. I went ahead and scheduled it for 1:30, so I should be called back to the room around... what... 3:45? I'm debating because I'm getting stuck pretty frequently, randomly, even with tiny bites of mushy food (I got stuck on applesauce). Not always, but at least once or twice a week, but no PBing (not since the last time over a month ago). On the flip side, while I certainly feel full more quickly, but I also still feel that if I wanted to keep eating I could. On the flip flip side, don't want to get overfilled. I may just show up and leave it up to him. Billie said he "feels" whether or not someone needs a fill, so maybe let him poke me and see how it feels, leave it up to him, and if I get a fill great, and if I don't, I don't. I'm really having a hard time with this whole "Do I need a fill?" decision! I'm too analytical.

There is another girl who has mentioned posts here, but I don't know her name. She's shorter, reddish hair, likes to make ice cream from Protein powder. That probably doesn't help much! Cate - I LOVE swimming! I have advanced scuba diving certification ("specialties" in night diving & deep diving) and I'd be pretty hosed if I couldn't swim! Love it love it. I could spend the entire day in a pool. This probably sounds way more "new age" than I want it to, but I "get" Water. It calms me. As a kid I spent hours on a floaty in the ocean, eyes closed, just feelings the waves bump me up and down. And I agree - it's a GREAT workout! Cate - you're relatively close to where I work. Damn close to where I used to work (The H&R Block WHQ on Main, just behind the Mill Creek park... kind of diagnol across the park to PF Chang's/Cheesecake Factory). Now I'm off of 169 just north of the river - Briarcliff area. My husband works just off I-35 in the Southwest Trafficway area, next door to Boulevard. If you know where The Roasterrie is, his building is across from that. I love the Brookside area, several of my friends live there, great diversity! And they have those trendy little "BKS" stickers, too! Holli - no problems with sex, but at the same time - no hubby on my chest during sex either (he's just under 6'5). I'll bring it up at support group this week if you guys want to get others' opinions, won't bother me a bit. I'm the very direct, shameless, "say it like it is" type. My weekend was typical. Friday was dinner with friends, father's day on Saturday, and yesterday was sleeping in & working on school. Everyone up for some Panera or something after group on Thu?
  8. Keep wanting. You'll have amazingly little say in what your body does. Keep following the guidelines, doing what you believe to be the best you can do, and over time the weight will come off. Everyone on this board would love to see a steady weightloss. I'm going to guess that 5 - 10% actually do. And just IMO - 40% of your intake as carbs is a little high. You've lsot 28 lbs in 2 months. 14 lbs per month, that's 2 lbs per week on average. Sounds about right to me.

    Your political compass

No judgement, just let it be interesting. What's your polictical compass? Find out here. If you care to, paste your results. I'll go first, so everyone can flog the communist. Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -6.49 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.95
  11. It was nice seeing you again lastnight, and meeting some of you for the first time. It's always great to compare notes, swap ideas, etc. We seem to have so much to talk about in such little time, but sadly you can only cram so much conversation in. Would anyone be interested in meeting up for dinner somewhere/sometime? It would be great to have time to chat, without necessarily having to do the meeting thing.
  12. Maybe I'm just missing it, but a way for a search to indicate which page the hit is on. I was trying to find something earlier, in a thread with over 20 pages, and it hit on the thread but I had no idea where in the 20+ pages the single post I was looking for was at.

What does everyone do for a living?

Senior consultant in corporate learning & development. I specialize in building distance learning systems, divergent learning theory, and application of learning styles. Outside of my regular 8 - 5 I own my own business designing and developing websites, and DH plays his role building custom computers, setting up networks, designing databases, etc. I'm currently in graduate school working on a MS in IPT. I'm hopefully done next year and will roll over into a PhD in human performance engineering.

Theory About Highly Intelligent Fat People

I can't tell you what you get out of being fat, I've never spoken with you. It's not going to be a blanket, "People get X", it's very individual. For some people it's a way to hide. For some, a way to detract specific kinds of attention. Or a way to exert control, or a way to hurt someone else, or a way to seek protection... and on, and on... (peek at the emotional eating page that's around somewhere, you will see a lot of things there...)

Theory About Highly Intelligent Fat People

I have the education and the corporate position - but I don't consider myself an intellectual. I am a perfectionist - situationally. I have failed before, and generally where I have failed is also where I am most driven because I have something to prove to - myself, my family - whomever. I'll probably get a lot of disagreement on this, but I believe you can't want to be thin without also wanting to be fat, in some way. Perhaps not even consciously. But I believe we do everything we do, including living fat lives, because we get something out of it, intrinsic - extrinsic - doesn't matter. Fear of failure is a very powerful, and extremely simply - yet extraordinarily complex, motivator.

If it were up to you, what laws would you create?

I love watching the evolution of threads. It has the same trend as people getting together in a restaurant, getting lost in conversation, and 4 hours later when they realize how much time has passed they also realize that they've talked about everything from fashion to the cost of petunias to their favorite veterinarian. Tougher DWI laws, like lose your license until you've been sober for a year... any more offenses and it's gone for good. Or something like that. I had two friends killed by drunk drivers at different times, and a family member who had over 7 DWI convictions. (My husband says, "Anyone caught DWI gets automatic involuntary manslaughter charges!") Do away with the "other duties as assigned" stipulation! I think automatic gratuity should be taken away. I fully understand why it's there, but so, so, sooo many times I've been part of a large group that received lackluster service, and we had no choice other than to tip them an even higher percentage that "standard". Tougher punishment for hate crimes. There's too much hate in the world. It's still going to be there, but maybe people will quit thinking it's ok to act on. Mandatory skinning, salt rub, and vinegar bath for "Reverend" Phelps and all of his ministry. Over and over again.

    Unethical bandsters?

No judgement at all, and no real rumination, either. I have my band, you are correct. Having a band does not mean I'm judgemental of those who do not. I'm probably one of the least judgemental people around. If I had intended to be judgemental, you would have read a very different post. I saw a behavior and was curious about it - wanted to gain some additional perspective. If you interpret that as being judgemental - then you interpret it as being judgemental. I said it wasn't intedned that way, and it wasn't intended that way. *shrug*

    Your political compass

Duddies - I agree. That's why I say - on the surface stuff, DH and I are total opposites. We agree on nothing... we like completely different movies, there's fewer than a handful of shows we both like, totally different ideas of the dream vacation, etc. I study the science of learning, he studies quantum phsyics. Scuba is the only hobby we share. On the surface, that's it for what we have in common! But on the stuff that can really make or break a marriage we're exactly in synch. Our political views, family values, definitions of leading a moral life, ethical views, etc.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (maybe a little XXX)

I hate feet, as a general rule. But I sandals in the summer, nd even though I don't like nail polish on my fingers, I think it's a must for the toes. *shrug* Just a little quirk I guess. I wish I had nothing to do tonight. We're meeting some friends at Outback. I use th term "friends" lightly, and Outback? :puke:We live in Kansas City and we're going to Outback? That's like living in San Francisco and eating at Red Lobster!

If it were up to you, what laws would you create?

Who said it was part of the constitution? No one, that I saw, though I'll admit to not reading every post. Pesonally I *know* it isn't. There are a lot of applied legal concepts that are not in the constitution. Some common examples - the right to a fair trial, and the right to privacy.

    cleaning out my closet

Feels great, doesn't it?! DH and I just got done cleaning out our MB closet. I must have pulled out at least 90% of the clothes in there... and I still have two more closets and a ton of storage totes to go through. I've been exiled to my laptop because my entire desk, office chair, and literally half the office floor is covered with my clothes that I've "undergrown". We're talking - seriously - at least 10 - 15 55g trash bags full. Anyone need sizes between 28 - 32 and even some larger?

    Your political compass

I make Ghandi look like a fascist. For you who see a lot of political differences between you and spouse, do you know your Jung/Myers-Briggs/Keirsey type? If not, it's a way to determine and categorize your personality preferences (that's the long story short version). I deal with it extensively. Take a little online test (fairly accurate, this is a decent one) and compare your results. It's often true that opposites attract. If you're interested, shoot me your results and I can tell you much more about it than the site does.

    Website advise

I'm looking at your sites now and will post things as I notice them. On your surgery site: You say "Email from Linda" but then say "My name is (blanked out)." Might want to watch consistency with your confidentiality. That's more of a general suggestion, with one specific example. I'd suggest taking up a little more of your real estate - perhaps developing an a dynamic format so that you can accomodate different resolutions. It looks like I'm viewing at a higher resolution than what you're developing at, so about 40% of the space is "wasted". If you test with multiple resolutions, you can use simple tricks like dynamic columns to accomodate different resolutions and get the most for your money in terms of real estate. For people like me, it will make all the difference since I won't have to scroll through 4 pages when all the content really will fit on a single page. Reuse your buttons. Agree with what was said previously on spacing, etc. You also have inconsistencies - e. g. "About Me" and "AboutMe" on different pages. If you don't know how to build dynamic content, use a table approach or even (ack) frames -- they'll help you get the idea, and for a small personal site they'll serve their purpose. Trufolk site: Do you want this to be a personal site showcasing your hobbies, or more of a low-level ecommerce site?
