    Where'd my port go?

Hi Susan, thx for the response. I actually just got done reading your post about your flip, I just hadn't gotten that far in my search when you responded. I do feel something port-ish now, but it's about an inch to the left of where my port used to be... so no idea if that's it or not. *shrug*

Ok so I've been palpitating my abdomen a little obsessively this morning... no port to be felt. I know chances are that I'm just missing it or something, but it's alarming me a bit because I've always been able to feel exactly where my port was. I left Billy a message asking if it was anything she felt I needed to be concerned about. I'd love to stop by the office and get a quick "it's right there" or "I don't feel it either" from Dr. H by the end of the day. I'm flying out for the week tomorrow morning and I *really* don't want to have this on my mind while I'm there. *sigh*

    Where'd my port go?

I've left a message at my surgeon's office, just to get their input. Did you have any idea your port had flipped? Any pain/burning that lead you to think something might be wrong? I pretty much know where my port is, I've always been able to feel it very clearly, and now I don't feel a thing.
  4. I had restriction from the band itself. I maintained the restriction and never did get my appetite back.

Sorry I missed it, I didn't get out of work until after 8. On a plane to FL tomorrow morning, back Friday evening, so I'll probably be more silent than normal this week. So when I lay flat on my back now, I can either feel the impression of my band (understanding there's too much between it and me for it to be the band itself), or I have a lot of scar tissue around it. There's definitely a large. long "bump" down in there. And I was a little dismayed to realize I could no longer feel my port. I used to be able to feel it standing up, and feel it clearly when laying down, but now I can't feel it at all regardless of position. I hope it's still there, and still where it should be...
  6. I did it b/c that's how TOM did it. Not my fault. Notice I had it right before he went and messed up your name. :guess
  7. Charlene, I don't think that's limited to your age bracket - but perhaps in terms of long-term vs. short-term security. There's the short-term security of "can we pay this month's bills?", the mid-term security of, "can we pay our child's tuition?", and long-term security of, "will we make it after we retire?" DH and I do consider all of these, but I'm not yet going to think about someone's 401k plan if I'm looking for another SO. Though I would consider their financial status, and how it would impact the household financial status, and what that could mean mid- and long-term.

HELP! REALLY FREAKED OUT - question

I've had something similar a handful of times, mostly when I was on Atkins (which would coincide w/ gallbladder considering the high fat content), just once since getting banded. Most of the time it happened at night, either late in the evening (10ish) or after I was already asleep, and it would wake me up. It would hurt enough that I couldn't ignore it, and would last for HOURS. At least 4 - 5 hours. If it woke me up I would just sit in bed, rocking, being in pain because nothing helped. I considered a gallbladder issue, but for me also had to consider food intolerances. The only thing I could link it to eating was sugar free Reese's. Hubby bought me some and the same night I had the pain. I never thought it was caused by the candy, so the next day I had a few pieces and had the pain the same night. I still didn't link it to the candy, but didn't eat any for a while and had the pain once. Then a few weeks later had a few more pieces of the candy and had the pain that same night. Apparently maltitol and sorbitol can cause extreme pain like this for people who simply can't tolerate it, but I do things with sorbitol all the time (gum, mints...) and have no problems. But like I said in the last 7 months or so it's only happened once. I probably had it the first time 2 years ago, and maybe 8 times total. Interesed to follow this thread.
  9. Not at all. But it made leaps and bounds in helping us see how our interests, priorities, and values have changed -- not always for the better, or what you'd like to think of yourself as valuing.

    Will my tightness

Carla, also keep in mind that as little as one tenth of a cc can make or break restriction for someone. It looks like your surgeon is going in full cc increments, but maybe it's time for him to step down to quarter ccs or something. I know a girl locally who literally goes from no restriction to really tight restriction with 1/10 cc.
  11. Carlene, that's a great point. Hubby and I had a conversation the other night about, "If you somehow lost me, and were getting remarried, what would you look for in a spouse?" Now THAT was a really interesting conversation to have!

Tupperware, Pampered Chef, and MaryKay OH MY!

Will your audience be your friends, or strangers? If they're your friends, you'll know a little about them and can let them help you figure out what to do. Ditto on the "introduce yourself" stuff. I've only been to two of these, and really only b/c it was the nice thing to do, so I can't suggest a lot of activities that "work" for these things. What kind of product will you be selling? That also might help with activities. Don't need the brand or anything, just genre.
  13. Hehe, that comes from one of my husban's co-workers. He calls the car hood a "bonnet".

    Oops and hurting

I second Jack. Our bands are a lot tougher than our tissue. If something were to reach some type of breaking point, my money is on the tissue being "cut" by the band way before the band itself breaking. You just wouldn't be able to get enough outward pressure in that little space by eating alone. So no worries there. Doubling over in pain could have been a borderline PB (for lack of a better word, though not entirely accurate). Your little esophagus working to get the food through, getting backed up, whatever -- can definitely cause enough pain to double someone over (in my case, anyway). And the pain doesn't always go away instantly. I'd think you definitely would want to do warm liquids for a day.

    Water or Coke

Yuck! Another Water factoid: Many low grade headaches are caused by mild dehydration. People will take aspirin or Tylenol with a glass of water and think that the medication releived the pain, when in fact it was the glass of water.

How long was your belly big postop?

I didn't notice any change in my belly. I didn't have gas pains or discomfort either, so maybe that's why... but I know I had gas in me because the tape they put over my stitches started bubbling up off my skin as the gas tried to escape.
  17. I do the opposite. When I'm stressed I will avoid food. I will also avoid people. I need to be left alone so that I can analyze & process the situation. Stressful day at work -- I'll not eat the entire day, and won't even realize it until I try to remember what I had for dinner, and then realize - oh, I didn't have dinner... Don't feel that you have to share problems with people. The best people can give you is external advice. If privacy is what matters, never feel like you have to break that. You don't owe anyone anything (ok, I owe my mortgage holder, but you know what I mean )
  18. I get it! Why can't a find a guy like you, but not you? I've found you, and you have all the mental/emotional qualities I want, but I still want someone like you and not you yourself... herego, you're not what I want physically. :heh: It's that "I'm glad we're friends" syndrome.

I do eat them but I really try to limit them. Most of my carbs come from Beans (and most of my beans come from Chipotle). We'll usually get a bag of chips & guacamole w/ our meal, and I will take about 6 chips and DH eats the rest. I can still eat breads if I go slow, but it doesn't do much for me so it's easy to avoid. I've never been much of a candy eater unless it's Reese's, so I just don't buy them. Occasionally if we go out after dinner I will get a FF frozen yogurt and have them mix in some Reese's... that's my carb treat. I love rice but haven't tried it yet, little afraid to. I do eat fruit when I want some, and won't worry about the carbs in it. I had some carbs yesterday, and today - in the form of the 100 calorie snack packs. Oreo yesterday and Chips Ahoy today.

    How dare she!!!

Actually the store I referenced is individually owned, and not a chain, and in a part of town frequented by out of towners. So it happens all the time that people come in and have no idea what sizes they carry. It's nothing like Victoria's Secret, where the general population has a pretty good idea what is available and what is not. Ditto your sentiment on stupidity.
  21. Butt nekkid after my morning tinkle, and ideally about 2 hours after waking up (but most of the time we're already out of the house w/in 2 hours of waking up). For some reason in the first two hours that I'm awake, I can weigh up to 4 lbs less than when I first woke up.
  22. Mmm. yeah, that adds a bit of complexity. Will a MO man turm me on, in a first physical impress kind of way? No. Could a MO man that I know and respect turn me on? Yes. That's what I was referring to earlier, when I said I *could*, but probably *wouldn't*... because it's all too true that the first impression is usually a physical one, and first impressions can definitely drive whether or not there's opportunity for a second impression.

Why am I obsessed with Anna Nicole Smith's son?

I didn't even know he died. I only knew she had a son from that trainwreck TV show she did a few years ago. I guess I don't get out much...

Unexpected trip to Florida next week, so we'll definitely be out of town Saturday. It was a "maybe", because I might have been able to do it Wed of next week... but not anymore.

    Sugar Free Pudding

If you're still healing my advice is don't worry about it, but once you're out of healing mode and into weightloss mode, you will need to be a little careful of the pudding, it can be VERY high in carbohydrates (which may not matter to you... I don't know what your post-op diet is, but most doctors advise low carb diets).
