My Brother please think of him

Yep yep! I was burned badly on my hand as a toddler. No grafts, but weeks & weeks of having to go in and have the dead skin peeled off, over and over. Docs said hair wouldn't grow on that hand, I wouldn't have full range of motion in my fingers, etc. Once healed my hands has never looked any different from any other hand, it's like it never happened. ER photos have a certain "sticker shock" when we first see them, especially when it's someone we love. THey have amazing therapies for burns now. The white mesh stuff is just there to hold the bandages in place. It's probably not nearly as bad as it looks. DH had some burns from an airbag a while back, and they have him the exact same dressing. As soon as the redness went away - about 2 months total - and the hair had grown back, you'd never know it happened. Not down playing your trauma at all, it's scary stuff! Just don't let the pictures scare you, and think of all the positive outcomes rather than the negative.
  2. Yup yup! My first thought was "You need a fill!" I went about 6 months underfilled. Now I scratch my head, wondering where I could be if I'd had more. Some people - well, everyone to an extent, but some more than others - have fat around their organs. This, too, is fat that's lost when you lose weight. So think of a big fat wrist, and when you lose weight, your bracelets and watch fit looser and you have to tighten them. That's what happens to your organs and the band when you lose weight. The fat between the organ and the band goes away, leaving "space" that needs to be filled up with... fill! How have your longterm habits developed? Still making good food choices? Exercise? Fluids? Are you just eating more, or are you also eating more "bad"?

Terrible Headache After Being Stuck and PB.

Isn't it weird how we all feel it so differently? I've never had a golfball. For me, when it's stuck, it hurts to either side of my bellybutton, in my hips (like where your hands are when you put your hands on your hips) and in my back, right between my shoulder blades. The bellybutton & hip pain can clear on its own, but back is my "sure sign" of impending PB.

    Road Trip

Buy the fresh-packs of tuna, and get (from most grocers) condiment packs of mayo and relish, if that's your boat, and plastic cutlery. The fresh-packs don't need to be drained, so just tear them open, squirt the condiments in, stir and instant tuna salad. If you PBed this morning you'll want to stop at the store and get some Protein drinks. Need to be on liquids for the day. The "EAS Carb Advantage" ones have good numbers, and taste decent when chilled. strawberry is my favorite. Are you staying in suites, or places with access to a microwave? If so, get some turkey pepperoni (Hormel) and microwave it on some paper towels until crunchy. Pack in a baggie for healthy snacking or meals. Most grocery stoers carry travel/single size cottage cheese containers, 4 packs I believe. Get some low carb beef Jerky (not if you've PBed lately). For breakfast at McD's, get the Fruit n' yogurt parfait, maybe, instead of a sandwish. It's made with low fat yogurt, and goes down very well. If you have to rely on fast food, try to get to healthy fast food. Places like Chipotle and Qdoba have some very healthy options. If you have to go to "junker" fast food places, opt for the chicken and order it without a bun, they'll put it in a plastic container for you, and give you a fork. Or order the salad, and get your favorite dressing from a grocery store. Stop at gas stations and buy packs of cold cuts. Most stations will carry some cold cuts, cheese cubes, etc. If they don't have them (even the little ones here do though), buy the sandwiches, and discard the bread.

    Chicago friends

Can I interrupt for just one post? I'm in Chicago (Aurora/Naperville area, technically) this week (was in downtown last week) and was wondering if someone could give me a good dinner recommendation. Today we went to "Key Wester" or "Key Westerner" or something like that. It was yummy! But we would like to try some place new tomorrow. Thanks, and I'll bow out now. I come here several times a year, and normally we have Italian so I've probably been to the local Italian places.

Terrible Headache After Being Stuck and PB.

I don't get headaches but I do get exhausted. Like I have to work to climb the stairs to lay in bed. Or get to the couch and just lay there under a blanket. And I get the shakes. And if the PB was particularly bad, I'll have "mid PB panic", for lack of a better thing to call it... where I feel like I have to focus on each breath. It's not a mental panic, I'll be completely calm, but my body feels like I'm panicking... hyperventilating, shortness of breath, etc.

    PhotoShop Question

Just open the file, then File > Save as... The very bottom box, cn't remember the title, will give you save options. Your standards (jog, gif, png, etc) will all be available within Photoshop. Alternately I think the shortcut is f12 with the image open.

WOMEN (might be TMI for men)

This has been asked many times. The answer is always "no problem", and that they will get you by with a large pad and granny panties.

Protein Drink with a Twist....kinda sorta!

Yeah, that's a lot more than most competitors have. You should have a wide selection under 1g. But hey, if you like them, and they help you get your protein in, that's what matters.

Watch the Atkins stuff. A lot of it is WAY higher in fat (becaues on Atkins, the more fat the better) than similar non-Atkins products. For chocolate, also try these additions, if you can blend: Peanut Butter Mint extract DaVinci sugar free "Kahlua" brand flavoring0 DaVinci sugar free "Toffee" flavoring Butterfinger brand cocoa mix For vanilla try these: Mixed or single berries Orange juice, splenda DaVinci sugar free "Hazlenut" flavoring Nestle low-carb cocoa mix Low sugar or sugar free spiced cider mix DaVinci sugar free "Egg Nog" flavoring

    Epidural?

Hi Laurend, I found this: Good news is "not usually" isn't very definitive. Bad news is - it could be a catch all. Here is the source, along with the info for the surgeon who made that statement: http://www.netwellness.com/question.cfm/43988.htm
  14. I don't think it's shallow. Generally speaking, fat isn't physically appealing. And, at least in the beginning, physical appeal is the majority of what dating is about. E.g. the foot in the door. There are, of course, always exceptions.

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research

Better yet, take SN1997FF, a type 1 supernova that's more than 11 billion lightyears away. (Meant to post this sooner but had to delete more Britney Spears links!) If the sun burnt out, it would take us 8 minutes to know. It's 8 light minutes away. It's hard to even conceive of something as old and far as 11 billion lightyears. (This is the useless knowledge that Wheetsin gets for being married to a hobbyist astrophysician and quantum theorist)
  16. Ok...so I first heard about the Lapband about a week ago and I can't get my mind off of it. I have been doing some research on the web. I am from Montreal, Canada. I am reading and seeing how many people did this and think to myself can I...should I... Yes, I had that debate for 5 years. And now all I ask is, "Why didn't I do it then?" but it also comes down to how much does this cost. I haven't seen cost anywhere...can someone tell me how much it costs.... In Canada... there's an area here specifically for Candians. Not that you aren't WELCOME to post anywhere, but most Americans won't be able to tell you Candian costs. If you post your question about cost there, you'll probably get at least MORE answers, if not MORE accurate. In the US costs range from about (USD) 9k to about 20k, plus, minus, and everywhere in between. how do we do payments Some surgeons offer their own financing. Some people use third party financers. Some even mortgage their homes or take out lines of credit. For me personally, I was prepared to pay out of pocket (hubby and I have the discretionary funds and were going to pay lump sum) but my insurance company ended up paying for it. and where do you recommend it is best do do thid procedure. You'll get so many different answers here. A lot of people who are self pay will go to Mexico because it's cheaper. I personally wouldn't go to Mexico, for a few different reasons, but that doesn't mean it isn't the right choice for others. Some people go to EUrope because it's cheaper, or because that's where they find surgeons with the specialties they're looking for. My PERSONAL advice - research the different surgeons, their statistics, and their claims. Then meet or talk to as many as possible, go with whomever you get the best feeling about BUT, more important than that, go where you can get aftercare. Aftercare is CRITICAL, and if you travel beyond your everyday abilities, you may have a hard time finding aftercare without going through the same trip each time.

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research

An honest question about YEC. I'm fairly familiar with the idea, but not with the minutia. The speed of light is exactly 299,792,478 meters/second. The farthest visible galaxy (unaided) is the Andromeda galaxy, 2.2 million light years away from us. If the universe did not exist until 6k years ago, how can we see light that had to originate 2.2 million years ago? Does YEC stipulate that the speed of light is wrong? * Edited - Oy, I'm tired, Correction to my own stupid mistake above in blue.

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research

It's actually not that far from what forensice pathologists do today, with amazing accuracy. Entire bodies are recreated from a fraction of a cheekbone, or a piece of jaw. A piece of jaw that's less total mass than a single tooth. I don't know if it's done with teeth, but I can ask next time I see our neighbor. She does this, only with clay instead of a pencil and paper. Can't remember what it's called. It's really fascinating to hear her talk about it, and see the progressions. Her success rate, of recovered persons or bodies, is something like 89%. *Edited to fix my bad. She is the FP, He is the crime scene photographer.

Nebrasks Man is very familiar, it's the "old glory" - or one of them anyway, that creationists use to try and discredit evolutionary theory. An instance of not knowing the facts of what was said, the full extent of the possibilites that were admitted, or what it was indeed "called". I'm lazy too. http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/homs/a_nebraska.html

    What to REALLY expect...

PB is when you have to bring food back up. E.g. too big of a bite or too much swallowed at once to pass through the stoma, or eating more than the pouch can accomodate. PB = productive burp, which is not really an accurate description.

I'm not sure you can edit a poll once there are replies, or else you could switch your "yes" to a "no" and REALLY change what people had voted for. Not sure tho...

Who is Mario Andretti?? :cry :help:
  24. Were you given any pain meds, and are you using them? I think you're describing your port incision. It is, 99% of the time, the sorest of the incisions, but I've not heard many people stating that regardless of position they can't get any relief. I know for me personally, my incisions only hurt when I was moving my abdominal muscles - standing up, sitting down, sneezing, coughing, etc. While at rest I felt nothing. Please call your surgeon & discuss. It could be nothing, and it could be something. And only your surgeon is qualified to answer.

    Sex Drive Poll

POSTED 3 MINUTES AGO AND I'M NOT THE FIRST TO ANSWER?!?!?!? My sex drive hasn't changed. I'm just as insatiable now as I was before surgery. But I'm able to do things (positions) that I haven't been able to do in a LONG time... since before I gained the weight. Positions my guy LOVES, and MISSED, and now wants to do -- guess he's trying to make up for lost time! And there are positions that are just downright more comfortable now. And I'm less self-conscious than I was before. I was never a "lights off" kind of person, but at the same time I KNEW that what my guy was looking at (whether he cared or not) wasn't attractive. And yeah, I STILL know that, but it's better.
