PBS special "The Mormons" made me furious!

Rings bells here, too. I can remember being very fairly young and asking my mom why, if she believed in god, did she not go to church? And I remember her telling me she wasn't allowed to because she had gotten divorced. So I asked her why she got divorced and she told me it was because the guy beat her up. I asked her if she liked church, and she said yes. I couldn't, for the life of me (at the ripe old age I was) understand why she wouldn't be allowed to go to the church because she left someone who was beating her up. Of course, I was young and getting the simplified version of the story, but it's not like age has made that situation make any more sense. Alexandra, I think it's beautiful that you thank your parents for that. Often if I'm in a situation where I'm asked what I'm most thankful for, my response is somehow related to the fact that my parents left me free to choose most of the direction in my life. Of course they were there overseeing it all, but even when I chose paths that caused them pain (as long as it was not destructive), they never intervened. They always supported me even if they didn't agree with my choices, and even when my choices went against the fabric of everything they knew. And they never let our differences become a point of contention. I CANNOT express how COMPLETELY grateful I am for this, and I can only hope that I'm able to do it the exact same way when I pop one out.

You quoted two different people, but say "person." To whom were you actually referring? As for my comment, what's bitter and unhappy about it? It wasn't even associated with religion. I was making the point that spelling does not equal better education/upbringing. In what way does that warrant your response?
  3. I don't watch that (or any, really) show. But I know what it is. Who's Billy Ray? Are you talking about that guy with the 3 foot mullet who sang the stupid song I can't remember the name of? Jiggly wiggly heart? Silly willy heart? Something like that...
  4. You could always roll it up into a ball and scare little kids with it. That's what I plan to do.

When the truth is inconvenient . . .

Ok Jachut, if yuou don't use disposable feminine products, what do you use?? Is there something that's washable? Or what? I'm trying to be creative but I'm failing. Then again, I assumed all cloth diapers were just cloth triangles that made a sort of ass do-rag.

    I need help!

Deja vu. Responded to one of your other postings of this ques.

    Help!

You need a fill, which will probably come 5 - 8 weeks post op. Just barely more than a week out you really should be focusing on healing, not weightloss.

    Addictions After WLS

Yep, MS in Clinical. Never thought too much of it from the career perspective, but did it because it interested me. Then I started thinking about it - I don't want to do therapy, I don't want to research, I don't want to teach... hmm, why the heck am I doing this? :fish: Now working on MS IPT (subset of human performance). The good news is that even though different topics, they're very closely related.
  9. Hmm... man's bum hole... chocolate starfish I've heard of. Mangina I had not. Marilyn Manson has to be the kind of (my version of) the mangina. Shall we introduce camel toe's larger cousin, the moose knuckle? Or better yet, the man moose knuckle:: And this unfortunate woman, who has become the internet celebrity of moose knuckle:

    Addictions After WLS

Yep, ad nauseum. (I was |-| close to being a psychologist, decided against, but went ahead with the schooling anyway). A good psychologist will definitely be looking for addictive tendencies and will likely start to recommend alternatives or ways to try and supress the behaviors. It's also called "addiction hopping." One if the biggest problems is that the new addiction is either more damaging than the eating addiction (rugs, alcohol, etc.) or cannot be sustained for long periods of time, which can end you up right back where you started. Unfortunately this happens a lot in people who lose the weight on their own. They swap their food addiction for, say, an addiction to exercise and instead of eating 6000 calories a day, they're working out for 3 and 4 hours. Think about it. Who could really sustain that long term, that wasn't otherwise motivated to do so? Not many!

    panniculectomy

Unless it is excluded, generally PS is covered if deemed a medical necessity, but that is not easy to prove and will take a lot of medical documentation. The trick is to truly have a medically necessary reason ("rash" really isn't it) that the skin must be removed, or it will be classified as a cosmetic procedure. My insurance company covers medically necessary PS. I'm probably a few years out from it and already starting to gather my documentation. Approval will also be determined, in part, by the aggressiveness of the surgeon.
  13. When were you banded? Water and other fluids of the same viscosity should always go down. If you cannot keep water or other fluids down, methinks you might be too tight!

I'd almost pay to see that. Indeed, spell check will never help someone understand that will we might all want to be losers, few of us want to be looser.

    Why??????

Alex, our admin, has implemented a skin change. This changes the "look and feel," but does not alter the content. On another thread we were noticing that some users have seen those one steadily for the last hour or so, while others have seen it flip-flopping. Just be patient, it will all get better soon. (How do you think I felt? I posted a message, submitted, and then saw a competely different board. Kinda scared me for a sec. )

Then we think even more differently that I would expect. It makes no sense to say "we do more," as some sort of defense, without qualifying the than in the statement. You could be saying "We gave more than people who make a buck a week" or you could be saying "We gave more than all the millionaires put together." I wouldn't know.

There you go Sunta, that explains a lot of the much wider, much more generalized problem.

Is there more than one? (I don't think so, but I really don't know). Gave more/lower rates/more likely/more educated... than what?

I said nothing about your spelling. My point was that you (generally speaking) can't take a lack of misspelled words, on a messageboard with a spell check function, as an indication that homeschooling is better than not homeschooling (or etc.). And to a lesser degree, that lack of misspelled words does not indicate a superior education or upbringing when other assets such as grammar are not also "above average" - even if that were some kind of valid measure. (Esp. on boards with a spellcheck.) I think BB got what I was saying. Hope. If anything, BB was complimenting your spelling.

Hmm, I only see the new one, with the girl at the top. Maybe Alex is messing with us.

Alex, I like it! I find it much easier on the eyes. I just need to re-orient myself.

I am very offended by the B**love post

BB, I don't think there's any doubt what drove your father to alcoholism. The church's love has shadowed more than one life. My mother experienced something similar. She's left handed, and perhaps it was her particular school or perhaps it was a belief that lingered in the Midwest, who knows - but she was told that being left handed was a sign of the devil. So they would tie her hand behind her back and force her to work right handed, while her dominant hand would lose sensation due to being pointed up and because of the tightness of the rope. And when her penmanship was not at par, they would beat her knuckles with a ruler. Or if she was caught using her left hand, they would make her (bear with me as I try to describe this without the benefit of visuals) kneel in front of the class with her arms stretched straight out to either side, palms up. Kind of like a T shape. Then they would stack encyclopaedias on her hands, and beat her on the butt with a paddle if her arms dropped. She was told repeatedly this was the church's love, trying to protect her from the devil. Have you ever seen The Magdalene Sisters? I watched that with her, and she couldn't even keep her eyes open during some of the scenes.

Something positive about religion = gives people something they need in their lives. There is something for them that religion satisfies. Of course, so do some not-so-nice things. And double of course, if we consider why it's needed in the first place, the entire idea could go right out the window.

I don't know about that one. Look back at this thread, or others, at some of the posts made by self-professed mormons. Look at the grammar, sentence structure, etc. The forum has an integrated spell check so if you're going by the spelling in the posts, that has to be taken with a grain of salt. We do not, however, have a grammar check.

    What Do You Call This?

Turkey is also one of the foods that people tend to have a problem with. So that might make it a double whammy. I remember... Thankgiving '05 I believe... posts left and right about all the problems that the turkey had caused.
