When Do You Eat Your Largest Meal

For me it's dinner. Mostly because I'm usually too tight to eat much other than soups before late afternoon/evening.

Let's go fem for a bit

My hubby is indifferent to it, but admits that going bare makes oral sex a little more interesting. The thing about pubic hair is - either you do it, or you don't, because the growing out stage SUCKS. Brazilians are quite a way back in my past. Now I just shave as part of my morning shower, along with my legs (I have very fine leg hair and only have to shave my legs once every week or week and a half - you can't even tell) & pits.

    What Peeves you?

I may have said this earlier, but it's a biggy. People who pop their knuckles. Or backs, or necks, or who cares what, it's all equally disturbing. I'm like - CAN YOU GIVE A LITTLE WARNING NExT TIME? So I can leave? Nails on a chalkboard - doesn't phase me one bit. This crap gives me the heebeejeebies.

    Snacks or No Snacks?

If I'm hungry, I snack. To me, the point of the band is not to deprive myself, it's to eat less. So my Snacks now are nothing compared to what they used to be. Typical snack foods - cottage cheese, turkey pepperoni chips, 100 calorie Snak-Paks (or however they're spelled), Protein drinks, wheat pretzels (I love those honey wheat braids, but don't eat many b/c I do try to watch carbs), homemade jerkey, etc.

    Why? Why? Why?

IMO - becaues in some way you get more out of being fat than being thin. People confuse this as "You want to be fat." But they're very different. Few claustrophobes want to be afraid of confined spaces, but they still are. That's because there are some things the mind takes care of autonomously. Many people get many different things from being fat. Security, protection, control, etc. "I eat to celebrate" and "I eat when I'm emotional" are the same thing, really - both focused on an emotional connection to food. Pay attention to how you feel when you're eating. Especially when you're eating without being hungry, or eating beyond the point of being full. What's on your mind? What emotional state are you in? Etc. Most people can accomplish just about anything they really put their minds to. Few people can accomplish sustained weightloss on their own. So there's something interrupting that drive, eh?

    Petrified and Excited

Good luck. Never had to have one, but don't think I'd like it much. It's easy to fail with the band because you're still accountable for what you eat. Not so much with bypass. Bypass is more of a "handout." Lap-band helps, but won't do it for you. Your success will be a reflection of your determination, and your goals. Welcome to the board!

I'm slightly odd feeling in my chest.

Can you identify an antecedent for the sensation?

Let's go fem for a bit

You can pretty much count on being nude from the waist down. As for position - probably varies by who you go to. I've been put in raised chairs and stirrups, I've been asked to lay on a flat table with my leg held up by the waxer's body, I've been asked to sit on the very edge of a regular seat, with the back of my butt just barely on the very edge, etc.

    Uh-oh

Things seemed to have just been down for a bit. New posts, searches, PM responses, etc. weren't going through for me but stuff seems back to normal now.

    Can't Live Without It...

I don't drink coffee but my husband has an occasional cup and is a bit of a coffee snob. Formerly he would only use a Bodum press and the beans had to be imported from a specific grower in Europe and ground to the perfect size, blah blah blah. Then I bought him a Senseo, and he's still happy... and I can get the pods at Target. Much better than European mail order.

This is probably where my super sensitive skin kicks in. It hurts me. And it makes me eyes Water, a LOT. Not crying, but watery eyes. But enough that there area tears running down my cheeck like I am crying. I'm an eye waterer though. I can't have anyone do eye makeup for me because I jsut tear it all away.

    Stretch marks from LOSING weight?

I don't think you'd be getting new stretch marks, but some of my old ones did turn red for a while when I started losing weight. Then the red went away and they became puckery.

Prior to having a blood test done..

As long as you followed your fasting orders, which it sounds like you did (unless your labs were before 6 am) then the numbers are probably accurate. You can always request a repeat test if you want but your insurance may not cover it without medical necessity. I had normal cholesterol before I was banded. One year after my surgery I had my annual physical and my cholesterol came back high. How that happens, I have no idea. I've cut out red meats, added a ton of fish and soy products (mostly tofu), added dairy but only fat free or reduced fat milk for my Protein drinks, completely eliminated a lot of my prior sources of cholesterol... So I figure - my numbers may be a matter of genetics. There's really no other way I can find to explain it. Does high cholesterol run in your family?

    Heparin Question???

Make that Heparin or oher blood thinner. I didn't mean only Heparin brand.
  16. Wheetsin

    Heparin Question???

My Heparin shot itself didn't hurt a bit. I truly felt nothing. Until about a minute afterward when the burning started. Of everything that happened pre-op -- getting the IV (they used lidocaine first), etc. the Heparin shot aftermath was the most painful. Weird! BTW, I was given mine in my inner hip area, maybe halfway between my hip and my groin. And man, did I have a bruise afterward. Ok nurses, do they give everyone Heparin before surgery? (Let's only consider people with "normal" blood viscosity). My band was my first/only surgery, so I have no other experiences to compare.

    What Peeves you?

Ayup, that's us too. He's the talker. I have to sit through a "news flash" everytime he sees someone he knows, and then 5 more minutes of him talking to imself about where he knows this actor/actress from. My DH has this way about him, where he will spend more time focusing on the details than the macro level. I hope this makes sense. Say he's telling a joke. He will focus on some tiny detail that really has nothing to do with the joke, to the point that there's no way it willl ever be funny. Two guys were walking... or were they running? I don't remember. Maybe they were walking... in Texas. Or was it Wyoming? Maybe Kansas... Back to TVs. This one gets my goat. To my husband, it is more important that he enjoy what's on TV than spending "family time" together. I think there are just times families should spend together, like dinner. I don't care that dinner be at the table, I'm fine with TV trays in the tv room. That's a compromise I'm willing to make, even though it isn't my preference. But say I make dinner and get my plate while he's doing something else. He will grab a plate, walk in, and start heading upstairs. if i ask him, "Are we not eating together?" he will answer, "I don't want to watch this." So I guess it's a general peeve about TV being so damn important. Males, society, whatever. I watch maybe an hour of TV a week. 2 hours in a bad week. I really don't get the concept of basing your life around the tube. Or - I'm sorry - make that "the DLP."

    Hair Loss Question

Actually from what I remember (long ago I self studied up on anesthetics, I was pre-med and contemplating anesthesiology -- and then I learned a few new words, "malpractice premiums!!!) any surgery can cause hairloss. Any general anesthesia, that is - doesn't even need to be surgery. I know my mother had some major hairloss after her hysterectomy. (from familydoctor.org)

In high school I took prenatal vitamins because they helped with my hair and nails. Not sure why I stopped, actually.

Carlene, tell more, because as-is I'm picturing someone taking the time to tie a very thin piece of thread around an eyebrow hair, and then yank it out (kind of like old school tooth removal).

    Band talk lingo

Pb, productive burp, is kind of hard to define "hands down" because there are several variations of what it means. I consider a PB to be when something that cannot pass through the stoma has to come back up. Sometimes it's just saliva, sometimes it's saliva and food, most often it's disoclored saliva, so presumably some combination of the two. It is not throwing up. Throwing up is when the contents of your stomach are purged. So you're talking acid, undigested food, etc. PB is just whatever is stuck, and whatever you've put down since. Or sometimes just saliva. Or if you've been stuck/PBing for a while, you can begin to produce foam... as it's called... kind of the consistency of really frothy shampoo lather. And then there's the "egg white" PB. We have a thread going about what the different acronyms and initialisms mean, I'll see if I can find it (anyone who has it bookmarked feel free)
  22. A lady I know personally was part of the FDA trials. She started in a 30 something, and is now in a loose 0. Yep, 0. 95% of the time she can only get liquids down, and even then they don't stay down. This went unreported for 3 years because she was afraid it would mean her band had to be removed, and she was equally afraid that without her band she would gain the weight. Finally things got to the point that she went to her doctor, was indeed told the band had to come out, and has refused to go back since. She looks absolutely skeletal now. I don't know if this is true because I have no idea how the regulations work, etc. but supposedly he said something to her like, "Well, even though this has happened, we'll still have good stats" and alluded to the fact that since she had her band as was declining medical treatment, it wouldn't count against his numbers.

OMG Im scared and freakin out...

You probably just don't have enough fill yet. I know of about 5 people who had virtually no restriction until being over 9ccs, but then - watch out - .1 cc was the difference between too tight and too loose. Also, being able to eat those foods isn't a sure sign. I can eat everything you mentioned, and I have moderate restriction. If you're looser now then before your last fill - well, lots of things could be playing. Maybe the fat around your esophagus has shrunk? That's just one of the poss.

I do my own pedicures as well. I can't stand for anyone else to touch my feet. Can not stand it. There's no way I could sit and welcome it. Like lianna said, it's a great way for "me" time. I do it while hubby is on his computer, watching a show (we don't like the same ones), doing something for work, etc. It's summer, and during summer I only wear enclosed shoes if I have to. 99.9999% of the time I'm in a low heeled sandal of some type. (Ladies, before you wear a sandal, slingback, mule, or other heel-exposing shoe, rub on some lotion. We've all seen it - white cracked heel. No one wants to look at that. ) Something kinda weird. I keep my toes polished darn near 365 days a year. The only time they aren't done is if It ake off the polish and something comes up to where I can get back to it until the next day. But I detest colored polish on my fingernails. I think (on me) it looks gaudy. Some clear is the most I'll do, and even then I prefer to go natural. Another tip - if you're going to polish with a darker color, be sure to use a good basecoat. Medium-dark colors can turn your nails yellow over time. The basecoat creates a barrier and prevents discoloration. Also, don't apply a top coat and think you're done. Top coat needs to be re-applied every few days.
