TRUE.....everyone should be up and about after surgery and when they are not you get those pretty little boots to keep the blooding flowing however, I have always been that 1 in a billion chance and I'm sure I'm not the only one..... -

I do agree that it is always the dr.'s call, however knowing the history of BC I believe that is playing with fire! To me it would be no different than taking a couple of asprin right before surgery..... it's a no no! -

If you are on your pre-op diet then why would you still be taking your birth control? BC is known for making your blood clot and that is the very last thing you want during and after surgery.... Am I missing something here? My surgery is 9/15 and I have already stoppe dtaking my pills per the surgeon and my pcp. I'm am seriously confused!!!!!!! -
Hi, I just want to say to goodbye to all! I was approved for the gastric bypass and I rarely see anyone on here that has had the bypass so I guess I need to bow out gracefully. I wish you all the best of luck with getting banding! I was denied because my BMI was too high. We ran it through for bypass basically just to see what BCBSNC would do, and sure enough they approved it in 2 days. I know this was meant be because I've had this in the lords hands from the very beginning. I wish everyone the best of luck!!!!!!!!

My original BMI was 53 and I needed it to be below 50 in order for BCBS to say the band would not be experimental. They said that I would not lose enough weight with the band in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. So that pretty much told us that they wanted me to do the gastric bypass. Sure enough just after 2 days they approved me. I really thought that most on here were in bandland and I would be the outcast. I will stay.... This has been the best place I've found so far!!!! Thanks to all for your support! I was really comfortable with the lapband because I have a almost 3 year old and I wanted to be sure I live through all this to be around for him. But I know that GOD is behind me all the way! After all, He is the one that made all of this possible! P.S. I need to update my ticker too, I've lost enough now to be approved for the band, but I am taking the path that the lord gave me!

I went 2 times. The first time alot of questions were ask about marriage, family history (dont bring up anything from the past) and just stupid questions. I had a test to bring and and work on. If you get one...Make sure you read the whole thing before you start filling it out! A lot of the questions are pretty much the same, there just asked in different ways. So you want the answers to match! Good luck!

So BCBSNC denied me because my BMI is 51 and it has to be 50 or less. I have been doing the low carb diet and watching what I eat when I eat and how much I eat and I still have not lost enough. I need to lose about 6 lbs. before I can even request to have an appeal. I am so discouraged... I have starved myself, been weak, but still tried to keep my head up thinking that I would come out on top of this thing and it did not happen. Everytime I eat now, I think "Stupid, what are you doing to yourself?" I had all the faith in the lord that he would get me an answer quickly from BCBS and sure enough it happened, but I got the answer that I told myself was unacceptable. No was not even an option for me. I have read to see if my insurance will cover the bypass but reading over the info is even more discouraging because the requirements for bypass is so much more. I don't understand how they say I am too fat to have the weight loss surgery. If I could do this all by myself I would not have a weight problem. I called BCBS and had a talk with them. When I found out I was denied on 6/12, I had about 15lbs then to lose and I have lost all but about 6lbs to be under what they want. I told the guy that he can guarentee that he will have an appeal on his desk in 2 weeks. I have one week to go. I will leave for the beach next Sat. and I wanted to be weighed and have an appeal in progress while I was on vacation so I could try and have a good time and not have all this to think about. I also said quiet a few other things as well to that poor guy that had nothing to do with making the decision. I explained to him that I was not angry with him but he needed to note my file. This is what I told him to NOTE: Since I have paid BCBS for so many years, and now that I need them, if they decide not to help me, they will never get another dollar of my money even if I have to walk the face of this earth with NO INSURANCE. Granted they would get my money until the end of the year, I told him that he should also pass along that they have not even began to see CLAIMS! I went to see a Neurologist and they sent me a letter wanting to know why....hahahaha how funny. They need to go ahead and plan on seeing a lot more of those. I'll go every single day if I have to and to physical therapy for my chronic back pain. I did elect in the smart flex program to cover my out of pocket exspense for the surgery that I did not get approved for so they can guarentee that I will spend every cent of it on making sure that they pay pay pay pay pay. (This is the angry part). I'm sorry peps, I just needed to vent. I guess I will go walk another 10 miles and drink 5 gallons of water and take 4 fluid pills. MAN THIS SUCKS!

Very sad, amd, upset, & confused
brandilf replied to brandilf's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I want to thank you all for giving me words of encouragement. I am going to beat this thing... I have too. I am not a quiter, I just got to keep faith that God will give me this when he is ready for me to have it. I just hope he decides to do it before I die of obesity, at least for my 2 year old son's sake. I've read more and more on BCBSNC on here and it seems that they usually approve everyone at some time or another, so I will just make sure that they keep hearing from me until they say "Gosh... just approve her so she will stop bothering us" Does anyone know if you have a limit on appeals? -
does anyone have an old book (Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies) they want to get rid of? Thanks,

Very Very Nervous about appt. tomorrow.
brandilf replied to yellowroseaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I went and met my surgeon on 4/16 and all went well. My insurance company (BCBS) would be the one to say 6 mth. pre-op diet. He asked me if I snored and I of course said no because I may sometimes but I know I do not need a sleep study. I had to do everything else today. That included a Chest X-Ray, Gallbladder ultrasound, Upper GI (which sucked) and an EKG. I passed everything. My psyc apt. is today at 4pm so I am hoping all goes well with him. Once I finish with him all my paperwork will be sent to the insurance for approval. Don't worry... just think positive and pray that the Lord's will be done! You'll be fine! -
How can I assure him I wont change?
brandilf replied to Bandme08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Help-no energy to get ready for Lap Band
brandilf replied to Kathy48's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know how you feel. I have a BMI of 54 and I go to the gym most every day. I actually joined the YMCA for 15.00 a month. Your right..... it is hard but I got to the point in my life where I knew if I did not change quick I would die. I have a 2 year old son and he is my motivation. Have you tried the prescribed pills phentermine? They work well. I have lost 10lbs. and have 100+ to go. I hope that things will get easier for you. Take care! -
Hello everyone, I am in the middle of paper work for the lapband and was wondering what all ya'll have been through. I have to keep a 3 day log of all the food I eat which must include a weekend along with a letter that I have to write myself. I have no idea what this letter is supposed to say. Did anyone else have to write this letter? If so what am I supposed to say... that I want the surgery. That to me seems obvious since I attended the seminar. I also wonder... if I get approved for the surgery it will be done at Wesley Long Hospital in greensboro. Has anyone used Dr. Earl? She provided us with some information during the seminar but seems to keep the questions very limited. I am in North Carolina and I have BCBS insurance. Has anyone had problems gettting approved?
