starting BMI over 50? come on in!
runningagain replied to maziemommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Missy, I was inspired by how much you have lost with the band. My Dr's. told me the RNY is best for me. I'm still debating between the two. My question for you is, did your Dr's. tell you the RNY would be best for you? Were they omptimistic about the lapband? Congrats on losing so much. That's awesome!! -
I've heard/read that placing the band properly is really crucial to having success with the band. So I would ask them what is the most weight they have had someone lose at their center. Post surgery support from them will be important as well. I know there are many other factors that play into it as well, but placement is very important. I'm still trying to decide which surgery is best for me. Good luck in your journey!!

Congrats to you on your weight loss. When you went for your intial consultation, did the Dr's. try to convince you to have the RNY? That's what is happening to me....they will do the Lap if I want it, but feel I'll do better with RNY. BMI is around 50 right now.

Banded 2-21, having problems
runningagain replied to FASTFATBOY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
David, Sorry to hear you are in pain. The first thing that comes to my mind is, "Is this normal?" You may want to call your Doc to see if it's normal. Did they tell you to expect this and that the pain would get worse when you walked? If not, I would call right away and see what they say. Even if they don't have office hours, someone is probably on call. Better to be safe in my opinion. I hope you feel better. -
I was going to vote for you to keep your hair growing, but when I got to the end of the thread, you cut it. I love it!!!! It looks so good on you and really lifts up your face. You still have some length to it so by the time of your wedding, you will have no problem putting it up. Kudos to you!!!

CONGRATS Mary!!!! Awesome job. You must feel wonderful. I'm so glad that this thread exists as I am above 50 BMI myself....UGH!!!! I'm looking forward to being part of this thread. I'm new to this whole process too. Had my first visit at the Doc's last week and they say I'm looking at 4-6 months and surgery will happen....YEAH!! I've been started on a diet and they gave me 4 guidelines to follow. One involves cutting my caffeine intake from 10 cups to 4. Which, by the way, I did, but had a severe headache two days later for the whole day and just felt horrible. I'm fine now. I've now completed my first week of my supervised diet. I have to say that I am finding I have more energy. I know, however, that I will have to deal with "head" issues as I hear others put it. I'm am an emotional eater so need to work on that. Right now I am taking it day by day. I usually snack at night, but my Dr's. office stopped that too. The first night I found myself drinking all of my Water late in the evening and being on this website chatting to help get me through. The hubby was upstairs making popcorn and I could smell it. Kudos to the person who started this thread. What a great idea!! -
Hi Molly, Just wanted to say hi. I'm in Syracuse. A person I know had RNY at Faxton St. Luke's and really liked it. I wish you well.

Hey another Newbie from Massachusetts
runningagain replied to Shamrockgirl60's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Shamrock. I'm a newbie too. Just went to my initial information session. Go back again in a month. I have sleep apnea....was diagnosed a year ago. Really suprised to find out I had it, didn't think I did. It was actually severe. I just thought I was tired because of a busy life!!!! Welcome again...you'll find this website extremely resourceful and will meet people at all different stages in their journey to BANDLAND!!!! -
I think our husbands are brothers!! I know how you feel....mine does the same things and it would be nice if they could "think outside of the box" and be a little creative. With that said, try to remember his good qualities and I do believe they do the best they can do. Hope your birthday was a happy one!!

StLouisGal and Cruzinjan - Thank you both for sharing. It's great StLouisGal to hear such detailed information about your experience. It's very encouraging and I enjoyed reading it. I often wonder what I will remember about the procedure. Glad to hear you didn't remember them putting the tube down your throat. That's my biggest fear. Thanks for sharing and I wish you both all the best.

Has anyone had/having their surgery in Syracuse, NY? I'm new to the forum and would be interested in finding out what your experiences have been.
-
You can do this and you will. I wish you all the best. I know I'm a little nervous about being on a liquid diet for so long, but it's something we need to do to get to where we want to be. It will be worth it. We are all here to support you!! :-)

Newbie question about exclusions
runningagain replied to educ8or2000's topic in Insurance & Financing
I agree with Maya314. Defenitely try to appeal it or get a letter of medical necessity/medical records. Co-morbidities may make the difference. My aunt had RNY 2 1/2 years ago and when she called the insurance company they said they currently didn't cover it, but might a year down the road. Well, she submitted her app. anyway and it went right through. As a matter of fact, she didn't have to wait your typical 6 months, her surgery was 2 months later!! -

Conversations you hear sitting in your doc's waiting room
runningagain replied to BRANDYK's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Brandy, First of all, let me say cogratulations for losing 60 pounds!!!! That's awesome. I certainly can see why you are frustrated with what you heard at the doctor's office. It makes me sad to hear that someone would actually go through with all of this and then not take it seriously.......but, they are not going to reap the rewards. YOU WILL AND ARE!!!! Just keep smiling and hold your head up high and be proud of what you have achieved and are going to achieve. You wil be the WINNER in the end. You cannot control what others will do or not do, but you can control what you do. Stay focused and we'll all be here to support you. :-) -
I just wanted to say how nice it is to see such wonderful, supporting responses to LVLY. I just love this website and the support of everyone on it!!
