I got my surgery date! I will have having lapband surgery with Dr. Patricia Choban on Sept. 10th!!! :smile2: At Mt. Carmel, West. I was having some trouble with some PVCs and was so worried they would change my date, but after a Holter monitor, found out they were insignificant and probably due to excitement and worry about the surgery! It really is a mixed bag of emotions you go through. I have been trying to have this surgery since March 2007 and I just cannot believe it is actually happening. Any advice for me on what I will need to take to the hopsital... Also, does everyone stay overnight, I am coming from Zanesville and would love to go home the same day or is this unrealistic?

Waiting for ins. approval with 105 pounds to lose
stacey f. posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi. I am new. I am awaiting ins. approval for lap band. My next app. is Jan 29th. My bariatric doctor requires me to lose 3% of my body weight before submitting for ins. approval and i have had a tough time doing this. I jointed Weight Watchers three weeks ago and am ready to move ahead with the approval process. I have about 105 pounds to lose and have been back and forth between choosing what surgery to have, Roux-en-Y or lap band. I have changed my mind 1000 times over this past year. (I started this whole approval process with my ins. company March 29, 2007). It has been a long emotional roller coster for me. I have now decided that lap band is just a better fit for me. (plus Roux-en-Y scars the daylights out of me). I have done so much soul searching and realize that the surgery is not a magic cure for my obesity. I know I have to take responsibility for my actions and my eating. I also know that this is going to be a life long journey for me as I was placed on my first diet at the age of 8. I am just hoping that having lap band in place will give me the tool to not suffer with being hungry all the time. I have restricted calories to 1400 a day on WW and am just sort of suffering through the hunger. I average about 2.5 pounds of weight loss each week and hope to do a little better after surgery, initially anyway. I have numerous health problems, hyperinsulinemia, (pre-diabetes), high blood pressure, high chol., a painful knee, SVT complicated by weight. I am 36 and weigh 250 pounds, (I have lost 9 pounds on WW yea!) The question i would like to pose is this. Is 105 pounds realistic to lose with lap band? From what i am reading, it is not the norm. Is there something i can do to ensure success? I am very motivated and can and will follow a program to the T. I hear so much talk about carb restriction for success. Is this necessary? How many carbs should one eat to be successful? Is carb restriction possible long-term, as I am looking to change my lifestyle long-term to ensure success? If anyone could give me an idea of daily foods and amounts, this would help ease my mind a bit. I just am trying to be as prepared as i can be for the long road ahead. Thanks so much., sorry to ramble.. -
Hi i am new to this site. i applied for lap band surgery in March 2007 and have been jumping through ins hoops since. today i got approval from ohio state bariatric program in columbus ohio. i have medical mutual ins and my case manager says if i get approval of ohio state, she has never turned down a surgery for them... i am so excited and so exhausted over this very long process. my dietician doc did say that lap band results were not as good as rny, but i have been losing on my own and i think i can do it with a lap band "tool" it is encouraging to see some of your lap band 100 pound losers and i hope to join them.. so nice to be here. :rolleyes2:

Hi, I am new to this site. I have only posted a couple times on the main board and was happy to see a board for the Columbus area. I live in zanesville, Ohio, but will have having lap band surgery at OSU in Columbus, Dr. Needleman. Anyone else? I have just gotten OSU approval, (had trouble losing the 12 pounds they wanted me to lose to get past Dr. Kramer). I have Med Mutual ins. and will have my claim submitted this week by OSU. I am so hopeful that this process goes quickly as I have been going through this process since March 29, 2007. I really was hoping to have surgery by end of Feb. before my hubby goes back to work at Shelly and Sands, (road construction). I am not sure how long recovery takes for this, I just now it is a lot faster than RNY recovery. Any advice? so nice to meet everyone here.
