Good bye bandsters, hello sleevers
gummykandi replied to hoover123's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I loved my band, lost 155lbs, had it removed during emergency surgery when I was 26 weeks pregnant, gained 155lbs, and I am now being sleeved on 6/28 :-) can't wait. -
155lbs in 28 months. I was having babies too, so that contributed.

Voluntary Pre-Op diet?
gummykandi replied to Lorie269's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My preop diet is intended to shrink my liver so my doctor has as much room as possible to work. Perhaps your blood work indicated that your liver was fine. I know my liver values were slightly elevated. -

6 Days Post Op and Continuous Low Grade Fever
gummykandi replied to MizzouGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's probably the anesthesia, I have read that up to 14 days after is even normal. Freak out if it goes high. Otherwise just watch it like your doctor said. -

Apple shaped. Help!

I had a band put in 9/08, lost 155lbs from 333 to 178, kept it off for 14 months. Then got pregnant with my first, I had gained three pounds at 25 weeks pregnant. At 26 weeks I started vomiting uncontrollably, had my band loosened, kept vomiting, was diagnosed with gallstones, kept vomiting, got down to 163lbs (at 26 weeks pregnant), had emergency gallbladder removal at which time Dr.Fass saw that my band had twisted and felt my it couldn't be reseated safely and had to be removed. It has completely kinked off and stopped me from getting any nutrition. I was devastated. My band really really helped me control my eating. I loved my band. I gave birth in may at 260 lbs, got pregnant again at 280 lbs, then gave birth at 325lbs. I was super depressed over my band loss, plus starving from my newly enlarged stomach, plus pregnant. It was a huge amount of weight again in a very short period. I am not proud of it. Dr.Fass was concerned that with my scarring from my lap band another was out of the question. I opted for the sleeve, upon his recommendation. I am sincerely hoping it works as well for me as the band. I wanted to wait until my son was around a year for breastfeeding purposes, and now I am ready to be sleeved the 28th, he will be one on 7/5. -
Apple shaped. Help!

With my band I lost 155lbs, I was apple before a size 28W top and 24W pants, and 12 or Large on top and a 8/10 bottom. My breasts went from DD to full C, but the worst was my arm flaps... Seriously like 6 inch dangly wings. I could whip out the "after" band photos, but they make me depressed, seeing as I have gained every pound back. -

Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon
gummykandi replied to boredswfl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had Dr.Fass at Seton Medical Center in Austin Texas. He is very clear about what he will do, very personable, and easy on the eyes. :-) His staff is helpful and competent, his nurse Jenna has gone out of her way to help me multiple times. -
Dr.Fass in this group did my lap band, which worked amazing for me. He did my lipoma removal, gall bladder removal, lap band removal (horrible slip while 26 weeks after throwing up for days and days due to a gall stone lodged in my duct) and will be sleeving me on 6/28/13. I love him, he always makes me feel listened to and takes time to answer me. His nurse Jenna is a saint and works her butt off. They are amazing.

gummykandi replied to rebecca_dsu's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

I am not yet pregnant but my DH and I are going to start trying in March (18mo after my surgery just like my surgeon said). I was wondering did any of you have a lot of extra skin on your stomach and if so how did that impact your stretch marks and the baby bump as your pregnancy progressed? Did you show earlier? Did you even get stretch marks? How long before people could tell you were pregnant? Kandi

i got banded 5 days ago and i need advice
gummykandi replied to oliviasmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are both normal every one is different, some people felt like they could eat a horse after surgery and some felt like water was an effort, me I was a give me the water keep that food away kinda gal. Every one will react differently you should only worry if you cannot keep anything down and really try to follow your doctors post op eating plan to avoid any complications. -
People at work are noticing my weight loss as well, and I am only 8 lbs away from my wedding goal ( wedding is in June) my size 14 dress came in finally... and ...IT FITS!!!

Is it true....no SF gum post-op?
gummykandi replied to KikstersRT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said no gum because he has had to surgically remove three (3!) pieces from various patients. I am not chewing gum at all because I used to swallow it all the time. -
When It was really hard for me (because food was also my addiction), I knit, and knit and knit, I did not put on the pressure to make anything but more rows of yarn. Not a sweater not a scarf no time to finish it in, I just knit, and it helped. After a while it was like, wow I wonder how long I can make this thing... (mine is probably 20+ feet long). Also I have heard of several people who become addicted to exercise after banding. Anything to keep you hands and mind busy.
