HI! I would say that if you still feel this way after a week, to call your surgeon for his/her take on it. It usually DOES loosen up after a week or two, but if you are soo tight that you are only taking Water or similar, that's an issue. You need nutrition and also to be comfortable for the long run. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor for advice after another few days. Good luck.

I'm afraid there is something wrong
ShalomToAll replied to voxwatt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't be ashamed of your weight loss! I only lost thirty lbs my first year. It took me about 15-16 months to hit 40 lbs! Slow and steady wins the race. Are you exercising at all? Do you know if you are eating a well balanced diet? Perhaps you could consult with the nutritionist or your doctor for some more pointed advice. Good luck! -
I love a small snack at night before bed! It helps me feel content and stops the evening tummy growls which I get without it. I keep it reasonable, though. A Laughing Cow Lite wedge or two, or a 60 cal pudding...something small. If the rest of yoru days' calories are not too high, a small snack at bedtime is no problem at all, IMHO.

Am I too small/young to consider Lap-Band?
ShalomToAll replied to mishakal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't think you are too young or too small. Why wait for the problems to increase? Many LB patients later say that they wish they had done it sooner! I say look into it! Best of luck. -

Sooo relieved for you! -
I have problems with bread, pasta, rice, scrambled eggs and some meats. My band is moody, too! Sometimes foods that worked out well yesterday are hard to eat today. Weird how it fluctuates.

Is it worth it to start liquids a week early if Doc doesn't require..
ShalomToAll replied to christymarie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doc did not require it. Therefore, I did not do a liquid fast. My surgery went smoothly and there were no issues. I can see the benefits of doing it if you are truly motivated. But if you don't have to, I can also understand not doing it, and then just adapting post-operatively to the liquid/soft diet. -
I think I am over-filled...but would you kindly read and advise?
ShalomToAll posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks in advance...here's the story: I was filled on Thurs morning and felt pretty tight but not terrible. I was able to eat a yogurt, drink water....kept it light and easy but was okay. Friday I felt tight but was able to eat tomato soup, a few crackers, some yogurt...still kept it easy and light due to the fill and not wanting to aggravate it. Saturday I ate soup and crackers again, but by the afternoon was sooooo uncomfortable. I think the crackers set me off. I vomited, foamed, PB's, foamed some more....you get the idea....FOR HOURS on end. It was dreadful. I kept trying to burp up some air for relief whenever I wasn't hiccupping or PB'ing or sliming......just so uncomfortable and trying to find relief. Today - Sunday - more of the same trouble. It was hard to keep ANY water down, skim milk, chicken broth.....really can't keep down anything. I think I am over-filled and will call the doctor tomorrow, however why is it that I was doing better on Thurs and Fri and part of Sat but then ran into such trouble? I assume I am irritated from all of the constant heaving, PB'ing, etc? So do I somehow soothe the irritation and wait it out and try not to have an un-fill? (I don't want to lose the restriction that I felt on Thurs and Fri before the trouble started up.) Or do you think I definitely need an un-fill? Help, pllleeeeaaaaassssseeee!!!!! Thank you so much for any guidance, ideas, anything!!! -

Thank you all so much for your replies. It is so helpful to me. I will call the doctor in the morning. I cannot even drink water, or even a teensy sip of warm broth, without it coming back up. I am sooooo thirsty and am afraid of really being dehydrated. I want restriction but this is over the top. I don't know how much of it is inflammation and how much is over-fill.....and I am hoping my doctor has a good attitude toward my returning to him so soon after my fill on Thurs. But I feel I have no choice! Thanks, all. -
That is so wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do any of you have trouble with rice and/or sushi?
ShalomToAll posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! I have been banded since January are am a slow loser. I had another fill today (am at about 4.5 out of 10 ccs or so) and am going to try some soft rice tonight, fresh from my rice cooker. Since banded, I have had lots of rice and even sushi, as long as I chewed well. Is this typical? Do most Bandsters do okay with rice? With sushi? I'd love to hear your experiences! Thanks!!!:biggrin2: -

ShalomToAll replied to ShalomToAll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for all of your comments. It is interesting to see how others have managed the same foods (or not managed!). I was able to eat some soft rice tonight...put a little tomato sauce on it to keep it extra moist. I chewed like crazy and it was fine. So, I guess with this current fill level, it may be okay. I'll see about sushi/sashimi and I think that as long as I eat slowly and chew well, it may be okay - based on how I feel tonight with the rice. It's funny how each of us has very different experiences.:biggrin2: -
Thanks for sharing, that looks great!

If you're researching lapband, you should know. . .

What an amazing post! Congrats on your successes and please keep sharing!!! PS Your photo is beautiful! -
They are both great surgeries but one must weigh the pros and cons and figure out what is best for them. It's great that you are doing your homework. I have the lapband. For me, it has been a slow process of losing weight (compared to others I know who are banded and have lost more than I have so far!). However, there is very little "suffering" involved with the band. I occasionally throw up, and only if I eat too much or too fast...but it is not a regular thing for me. The one con I have with the band (for ME) is that it is easy to cheat - ice cream, sweets - they slide right down at times. If my willpower is down, the lapband lets me cheat. Unfortunately, my brain is not banded, only my stomach is! But, it is still the best tool I have ever had. It is a built in tool that stays with you forever and I like the adjustability of it. After maintaining for six weeks with no further loss, and too much eating on my part, I had a fill yesterday and now the restriction will keep me from eating as much. I have a couple friends that had bypass. One was VERY successful and has kept it all off, though she does have dumping syndrome a lot and runs to the bathroom sick when she eats too much sugar. The other one, my bro in law, has regained ALL of the weight he lost on the bypass. it took him a few years to regain it all, but he did. It's sooo sad. I guess in the end, one must commit to the new lifestyle that comes with the surgery and must accept the strengths and limitations of the one they choose. They both have strong followings and many success stories!

I found it to be very easy, too. Every fill so far has been uneventful - not painful AT ALL. My doctor has me put my arms behing my neck - somehow it makes the port access easier for him. Good luck - let the weight loss commence!!

Dry heaving, burping and spitting up after a fill - please help!!!!
ShalomToAll posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi guys. I hate to be gross but I have to ask for help. I have a 10 ml AP standard band. Until now, I have had very minimal restriction and have not lost a lot of weight. Before today, my band was filled to about 4 ccs. Today the doctor agreed that it was time to try another fill. Now I am up to about 5.5 ml. I have been struggling all day. I don't know if I just need to adjust to this or if I am now over-filled. I have been very, very burpy and hiccupy all day. I also have dry heaves and some spit up. I am afraid to go out in public or back to work feeling this way. Please advise! I am relatively new to this (January 18 banding). This is the first time I have had this restriction and these ill-effects. Not sure what to do! THANKS SOOO MUCH. -

Dry heaving, burping and spitting up after a fill - please help!!!!
ShalomToAll replied to ShalomToAll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks, Denise. I hope it gets better but I fear you may be right. And the scary thing is I was told that the doctors won't be in the office again until next Thurs! If I need a slight unfill, I'll have to wait that long....that is bizarre! BTW, I think I made a mistake when I said "ml" instead of "cc." LOL Thanks. Anymore feedback would be great, guys! -
I was banded a little over two weeks ago. Tonight I had a few small, soft meatballs with sauce over them, which technically I wasn't supposed to have for about ten more days. I was just so hungry and sick of the "full liquids." I ate them slowly and cautiously and they went down great! No problems at all. I stayed within appropriate calorie and protein counts for the day, despite my transgression. I hope it's okay.....I wouldn't have done it sooner, but my body just felt very ready for this step, and it seemed to have managed well!
