Your all lucky. I have no clue what size band I have but I was told that it's more than likely a johnson and johnson brand so I guess that narrows it a bit. As for my fill I just had my first one yesterday, bit annoyed with it really, I would rather have small fills then a huge one and I got 4cc's put in after being told that I had 4cc's put in during surgery. I was always under the impression that they go slow with fills like 1-2cc's each time but I guess not.

Hey Jess, I was supposed to have yoghurt afterwards but as soon as they stuck the fill in they made me get out of the room for the next guy. Actually it was the surgeon, his bedside manner is atrocious and I'm actually pretty annoyed that he did that. All up going in for the fill and then coming out I was in the room for about 3 minutes so your lucky you get to stick around.

Hey don't get too worried about needles, you'll just feel worse for when it does happen. For me I'm used to needles but honestly I hated getting the fill, my nurse did it and it was the first time - the surgeon was there watching over but like I said it was his first time, the thing that hurt the most was him pushing on the port and I heard a clicking noise and then it hurt a little bit (not from the needle) and needless to say I burst out crying for no reason lol. But that's just me. At the moment feel pretty good, straight after I got it done, I felt like a numbing feeling in my mouth but they didn't numb the area just wiped it with the alcohol wipes so don't know what was up with that. I was planning on transitioning into foods over 3-4 days but I was so hungry at lunch today so I had a tin of spaghetti which was really soft as it absorbed lots of liquid, I had that 20 minutes ago and although it didn't fill me completely I feel like I could already eat more which sucks =( The only discomfort I really had was having to hold my stomach afterwards to make sure it didn't bleed which it didn't. Also yesterday straight after the fill my throat felt tight and I was paranoid that I was going to be too tight and not be able to eat, but nothings come back up so I guess I'm good. I hope everything goes well for you for your first fill.

Anew your lucky that your not hungry for 2-3 hours. I was banded last month and after I ate, felt like I could eat again after about half an hour. In saying that I just got my first fill yesterday (4cc's) so we'll see how it goes from there.

Mine is 24 hours as well. I had my first fill yesterday but I think I might do liquids just a little bit longer. My surgeon said 24 hours for liquid and then just chew chew chew *rolls eyes* but I think I might do liquids for 24 then go to some mushies then transition back to soft/normal food over 3-4 days. I just think that going back to normal food 24 hours after the fill is too rushed but that's just me.

How much was your first fill??
Sarah.R replied to TeganRheana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh Tegan I want to hug you, as weird as that sounds lol. I had my first fill yesterday and the most I'd heard of anyone getting is about 2.5cc but I got 4cc's as well. I'm a bit worried though because when I went in my nurse said that 4cc's was put in during surgery as well so I have a total of 8. So I'm paranoid now that it's too much, I guess I won't really know for sure until I transition back to eating but if it is too much I'll be going back for an unfill and then requesting they don't put in any more than 1cc from now on - Which don't know if it'll happen because the surgeon *rolls eyes* says how much goes in. BUT I'm the one with the band not him so he better listen to me lol. -
Confused-How much I should be eating at each meal?
Sarah.R replied to jtejada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just remember to eat slow, I found I was eating about a cup of pumpkin soup on mushies and it was apparently too much (oops) but I could fit it in so I didn't think I had a problem with it. For the soft food part, try casseroles, I had heaps of quiche, scrambled eggs and omlettes with just cheese. I also had some cheesesticks just for extra protein (not that I count it anyway.) Good luck with everything. -
Am I the only man in this forum? I kid, sort of.
Sarah.R replied to pixelsmack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You know I totally agree, the majority of people on here are women, but in saying that it doesn't mean that theres like a ratio of 90% women to 10% men. I'm pretty sure theres a men's forum on here so maybe you could try that out? -
Tightness in throat after fill?
Sarah.R replied to Sarah.R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's because I don't know my band size, I asked the nurse today and he said the surgeon didn't record it which is so annoying. 8cc in it 5 weeks out is definitely annoying, when he said that 4cc was already in and that he was putting another 4 in I kinda felt the colour drain from my face, I dunno. I tend to get paranoid alot so maybe that's what it is this time. I'll wait it out but if it's still there tonight I'm going to ring. -
I haven't had a problem with the ones on the list that I've tried - even had a cheese and bacon roll which is basically just a doughy roll with cheese and bacon melted on top so it's not exactly bandster friendly but had that for breakfast and it was great lol. But in saying that I just my first fill today sooo bye bye yummy foods I guess lol. Oh and if people have a problem with red meat - Try slow cookers and casseroles - just as good.

Tightness in throat after fill?
Sarah.R replied to Sarah.R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol, it's currently 3.36pm wednesday here in aus. I know I should ring but what if I'm just over reacting and he thinks I sound like an idiot? I have no way of getting there until 6.30pm tonight and even then the guy that did my fill won't be there and at my hospital he's the only one qualified to do it. I just had a cup of tea and it's eased a bit but I dunno. If it gets any worse I might have to call up =( -
I honestly don't believe in god but I respect that others do. I have my reasons not to believe in God/Jesus/Everything christian. One thing that annoys me though is the way people react when you say your an athiest - It's like the end of the world when they hear it like they believe everyone is a christian - Not saying that about heaps of people but most of the people I've come across.

First Fill Experiences For The Mayo BANDitos
Sarah.R replied to John337's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Bem don't get too discouraged if you only stay full for like half an hour on soup, it's thin and it'll just go straight thur but you probably already know that. Anyway I had surgery May 12th and had my first fill about 3 hours ago and yeah I cried lol. Todd my nurse told me to lie down. The needle wasn't painful but I kept hearing a clicking and then it hurt a little and I ended up crying like a big baby lol. Oh and I had absolutely no restriction previously but turns out the surgeon put in 4cc/mls during surgery and then today he put in another 4 which I'm a bit peeved about because they said they where going to do this all slow so I was expecting about 1-1.5cc and now I feel like my throat is tight but I have no problem getting Water or juice down soooo we'll see what happens when I wake up in the morning and attempt to drink something. Apparently I'm on liquids for 24 hours and then I just have to chew chew chew which is a bit annoying. I don't think I'm going to follow his advice, instead I'm gonna do 24 hours of liquids, then some mushies for a day and then eventually get back to the solid food. I just think that 24 hours and then going straight back to normal food is too soon. Anyway lol I had to go see my dietician afterwards and Todd the nurse came down and was saying he felt bad about it but the guy he did after me he got it first go lol. So I go for my next one in 5 weeks and hopefully I won't look like a wuss when I get that one lol. -
Wow that sucks. Maybe your surgeon won't put you on the shakes and instead have you on low calorie foods for your preop. Things like broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, etc. I'm not sure of any shakes out there that don't have those ingredients but I imagine there would be, they can't not have any shakes for people with allergies.

You know I heard about this, and I think the woman had previously tried other weight loss surgeries that had failed. As for going anywhere near the brain, I believe that is the last resort and only if you have cancer or something along those lines. But if it worked for her then I guess that's great for her then.

Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
Sarah.R replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You forget to factor in their height. If someone is 5'1 and weighs just over 200lbs then they are classified as morbidly obese. Who are we to say who can and can't get this surgery? We know the reason that us as individuals are getting the surgery and if someone is just under 200lbs and needs this surgery and can afford it or their insurance deems that they are entitled to it we have no right let alone judgement in saying they can't have it. -
Well my surgeons nurse just rang and I asked him if I should postpone eating before my fill and he said not to worry about it. Sooo yeah not really informative which sucks lol. And then he was just like you'll be on a sloppy diet for like 48hours afterwards (yeah I pretty much knew that) But another thing they do at my hospital is they make you wait around for a while so you can drink something and eat something and make sure it's not tight which is good I guess.

Shopping list to get ready for post-op
Sarah.R replied to Mommy of two's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to say juices but the acidity in them might be painful. For the liquid stage I basically lived on water, apple juice, milk, popsicles and sustagen which is an all mineral and vitamins drink. Then when I went onto mushies I just had whatever the family did but added more liquid so it was a thinner consistency. It's easier and if you can't afford to go out and buy different things then it's better. As for comfort things? Heat pads are great for most afterwards =) -
Uh no not just in australia. General healthcare is the same everywhere unless you live in a 3rd world country. And it's not just for long procedures either.
-
Well I thought I would update my situation. My sister and I went shopping on sunday and she bought a milkshake and asked if I wanted some, thought about it and decided I'd try a little bit with the straw and I don't know if I was being paranoid but I swear I felt like there was air going in my stomach and my stomach actually puffed out a little bit. I guess it could of just been me being paranoid but I dunno lol. I don't think I'll be using a straw from now on though just because of that.

11 doctors appointments? That's crazy. Like fair enough they want to make sure your well enough for surgery and cover other guidelines but that is ridiculous. It sucks that your surgeons booked until september but maybe you could just use that time to buy up on stuff you need until then? I stocked up on like pants for walking and underwear, stuff you can buy in advance lol.
-
Maybe try ringing your surgeon first? My first one is this wednesday and I actually have to ring the nurse to see what if anything I'm allowed to eat before hand. Obviously stay away from a big meal before hand as that's just common sense. I think I'll probably just eat yoghurt as it'll slightly fill me up but won't be in the way I guess for when I get the fill. Good luck with everything.

lap band pain after surgery
Sarah.R replied to andy343858's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Andy. Honestly I had pain around where the band is, but it was more discomfort with the fact that I could actually feel something on my stomach (weird) as for that feeling, it subsided for me about 2 weeks out. Straight after surgery though I felt like my stomach muscles where going to wreck the band as they where being weird and pushing out. Hope everything goes well =) -
Presentation 4 days after surgery...will I be up to it?
Sarah.R replied to Who'sThere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people will say yes you'll be up to it others will say no but really it depends on how you feel. I thought having previous surgeries that the band would be a breeze for me - Well 4 days out and I was still in a little pain but heaps of discomfort. If your sitting for the entire thing though, maybe take a tape recorder in case you miss anything and ask your lecturer if you can bring someone with you just to help out.
