Australia - Teenagers turn to weight loss - Read this
Sarah.R posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so usually stuff in the paper doesnt annoy me but I woke up this morning and my mum was like read the front of the Courier Mail (paper in aus) so I did and I saw this article that kind of pissed me off. It's about teenagers turning to weightloss, I have absolutely nothing wrong with the fact that teenagers want it except for one little thing, I definetly don't think anyone under the age of 16 should get it. I was told numerous times while I was in hospital (been in on and off since I was 10 - nothing to do with my weight) and doctors told me that they can't do certain operations because my body was still growing which I completely understood you know so I thought well if I can't get it then I'll wait until I'm at least 18 which I think many people should do, I mean who cares if people think of you as "the fat person" YOU will know that's not true. Anyway I thought I would attach the article to see what you all thought. Another thing that annoyed me is the comments that some people left blasting bigger people, sure we do tend to have more problems than others but it's like they didn't even want to give bigger people a chance just saying "Your fat it's your fault, go to the gym and work your a** off to get it off instead of paying $15,000 to get out of it the easy way" This is the article Teenagers turn to weight-loss operations | The Courier-Mail -

Im sorry I didnt mean for that kinda thing to happen I just think that's horrible that some people have to resort to it, it would be so much easier if fast foods were never invented you know? And although I know alot of people under 16 need it, it should never have come to this if you know what I mean? I see a woman when I go shopping with her 2 children she looks about 250kgs - so about 500 lbs and her daughters are slowly catching up to her, it's just ridiculous that people aren't willing to accept this kind of thing I mean if some chick wanted to get bigger boobs there would be no criticism about that now would there? -
So I'm sure millions of people have already asked this but I thought I'd ask anyway. I take 13 tablets a day. The biggest pill of which is a calcium tablet about the same size as a water bottle lid. If your nil by mouth before surgery how are you supposed to take these? The only ones I'm actually worried about not taking are the ones that I am supposed to be on for 5 years, they're tablets that prevent scarring on my lungs and also try to reverse it, I have to take 4 of them twice a day and it also says on the packet that if the powder comes into contact with any skin that you should wash that particular part immediately with soap and do it again a couple of times. So apart from those other questions another one is, I saw that some people say that the Dr's tell them to break the tablet/capsule or spill the powder out or whatever but how would I be able to do that if I have to go through all that if I get it on my skin? I have to be on these tablets, it's either these or steroids so can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

I havent been banded yet but I was previously on prednisolone for my lungs which are screwed, i read that it depends on your surgeon and what exactly you have, as its to do with my lungs i will probably go on antibiotics before hand, it also depends on your dosage, the prednisolone tablets are small which is good as they will be easier to take, just make sure you ask your surgeon and/or gp (general practicioner)

I've never used them but I'm also 20 and have had the luck of my mother doing it until I was 18, I don't have a job at the moment so I do the cooking but you could always go to your supermarket and look in the frozen aile, they usually have weight watchers meals, lean cuisines etc frozen that are also nutritious, take little time to heat and are small and adequate for someone that has a band, if you don't eat it all you can always put it in the fridge and have some veggies with it the next day for lunch, also they tend to have alot of different recipes that are also really nice

Taking pills before and after
Sarah.R replied to Sarah.R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't know you could get chewable ones, that may just be in america but next time I go to the pharmacy I'll definetly be asking if they have chewable calcium, Vitamin d and b1 lol -
Actually I don't like it at all, before I could scroll down the bottom right click a persons name who was in the chat or whatever and see who they were now I have to save a persons member profile on my favourites and go manually and put there name in and click enter, only because when I click someones name in the chat and click profile it never comes up. Talk about frustrating, only reason I do it is because I like knowing who I'm talking to, before it took a minute or two now it's about 5 grrrr
-
I know what your talking about, go to woolies, they usually have a health section and everytime i go i notice they have things like optislim in the soups, it might just be the woolies where i am but im pretty sure it's not

I had a appointment with my doctor last thursday and he rang the surgeon cuz it was taking forever and I've got a consultation with the surgeon next week, I'm actually pretty worried as I won't be paying for any of it (the public hospital will) and I'm worried they'll deny me, but about the sleep study? I'll most likely have to have one because I have lung problems (not to do with my weight) I guess it just depends overall on how well the person is and if they have any underlying health issues
-
Ahh you look so good, you look around the same weight I was at 15, wish the option was there at that age for me
-
I know what you all mean, I personally will not be telling certain people, like my whole family (except me) is friends with another family, my older sister went to school with the older sister and i went to school with the younger sister - the younger sister has been big ever since I've known her and the older one is now just stacking on the weight although she "claims" that her clothes are shrinking lmfao and I know if I told them they would get extremely jealous and probably stop talking to me (not that I'd complain lol) but if I did tell them I know they would tell others, it just depends on how well you know/think you know the person

Can i have lipo and LB surgery done at the same time?????
Sarah.R replied to Ladeda56's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you have a small frame why get it dont? Wow you look pregnant woop dee doo, 100% of the people here were or are overweight and there unhappy with that not just because they look pregnant, are you even serious about this? you don't sound overweight at all -
Where you ever worried about the surgery/ or are you?
Sarah.R posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've had surgery before - 2 lung biopsies, bone marrow taken and a bronchoscopy(sp?) although it's not really surgery. And I was just wondering if anyone was ever worried, panicky, extremely stressed about there surgery? I never have been the only thing that worries me is recovery - I take ages to recover, it took me about 2 months to get over my last lung biopsy and stop taking the pain meds, I know that the lap band won't be the same as that but I was just wondering how everyones experiences were with it? -

Thanks I appreciate the comments, I know I won't be in as much pain as when I had a lung biopsy but still some pain and as I think I've said I'm a slow healer so it'll be a while for me to get back on my feet, appreciate all you replying and what does DD stand for? Thanks -
Well I haven't actually seen my surgeon yet, I still need a referral which is taking forrrrever but once I see him my surgery will probably within a month or so of seeing him, I've never really known what foods are high in protein just the foods that are high in fat, so thanks to you and everyone else that replied, I'll have to look it up now, can't live on chicken and eggwhites forever after surgery lol (although I could easily do that =P)

I highly doubt it, fish is a high source of Omega 3 and even though it does have a portion of fat it's good fat unlike whether you eat a burger from macdonalds, just make sure that its filletted properly and if it is the flakes are small enough to eat with your vegies

Probably putting this in the wrong spot but oh well. Does it annoy you when all the people on this site there obviously big/ or have been and they weight what 150-200kgs or more and they have the lap band and then they loose weight and they have maybe 10 kgs to loose to there goal weight and there not happy? This just annoys me alot, if you have gotten the lapband it is obviously because you have either lost weight and couldnt keep it off or you couldnt loose weight and then you read about people that say "Oh I'm totally pissed, I've only lost 5kgs, I really wish it was more" I mean you've never lost that much in one go so why in the hell are you complaining? Frankly I havent had the band yet but I know for a fact that I'm going to be exstatic when I have lost 10-20 or even 40 kgs, I'm not going to be pissed off if I've only lost 5kgs cuz I've never lost that much weight at one time. Does anyone see what I'm getting at? Also yes you would be frustrated as you do want to loose that little amount of weight but really why get so pissy about it?
-
They say not to buy but what happens when your underwear are sliding down your ankles cuz there too big? lol. I agree with what the second person said take clothes in or you could always go somewhere like the op shop, they usually have some nice stuff that has either never been worn or has only been worn once, that way you only pay roughly $10 on an outfit and then when your finished you can take it back and have someone else buy it I suppose. It'll definetly save you on money as well
-
I know exactly what you mean which is why I dont plan on telling most people, the only one that will know are my mum, dad and 2 sisters mainly for the sole fact that we have a family that we're "friends" with "" meaning my sister is friends with them and I 'm not nice to them whatsoever anyway theres one daughter and she's always been not thin but not huge either with big boobs and I remember one day she said to my sister "has sarah put on weight cuz her arms are getting bigger" well pot boiling the kettle black cuz now she is huge (almost bigger than me) and her sister who is the same age as me is bigger than me, they kind of criticize alot of what i do as well but I figure once I get the band I will not be telling them crap, they have been rude, arrogant and downright pig headed about everything i do, and I know that if I told them they would be the same as everyone says about there family/friends "oh why cant you just eat healthier and go to the gym" actually I eat healthier than anyone I know, I eat vegetables or salad with dinner everysingle night and when I see them eat it's usually followed up with 2 cans of coke or something, just try to find out who your real friends are, either there asking you to eat healthier because they genuinely care for you and dont want you to get in any health trouble or there bitches, it's up to you to decide which one they are.

From 1st Consult to Surgery - how long?
Sarah.R replied to KMEArnold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ever thought that maybe your surgeon is one of the better ones and he's booked completely? most surgeons that do the gastric banding don't just rely on that for there pay check, the doctor I'm going with does numerous other surgeries and I wouldnt expect to be banded within a year but I'm a speciality case which means I will most likely only be waiting for 3 months. It just depends on there surgeries and which are more important, lap band is not as important as say heart surgery, know what I mean? -
It could be, I've heard of the americans go on about it saying that it's better than all the rest, if only it was available here
-
Well you just wrote that he said you had the small AP band so obviously you have the small band, if you had the larger band he would have said "You have the 14cc AP band that is larger" Correct?
