Have you tried to change anyones minds that have chosen the gastric bypass?
Sarah.R replied to Sarah.R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually thats a good question - I dunno how I would feel. My doctor is the one that actually suggested the lap band because I may be looking at a lung transplant in 5-10 years - I think if someone asked me why I was getting it done I would just tell them that, anyone that knows me knows I have serious health problems (not related to my weight) and overall I want to be healthy and know that if I do need a transplant I will at least survive it. I don't think anyone would have any doubts or try to talk me out of it once I told them that -
I'm super excited about getting Lab Band Surgery but....
Sarah.R replied to cutiew/booty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol. You don't get to choose where the port is put. Most surgeons have a place where they put all of them and that's the way it usually stays. You will not be picking where the port is put - the surgeon does -
Lmao. Sure it happens all the time at hospitals but really how many times do you sh*t yourself? I can't imagine that happening to me, I'd go bright red and then asked to be transferred to another hospital just so I don't run into any of the nurses lol. Geez I really hope this doesn't happen to me - I'm gonna be paranoid and sitting on the loo the entire time now =S

I have heard that people with a higher amount of excess weight loose it overall more than those that don't if that makes sense? Everyone looses at a different rate - and if you incorporate excercise into that of course your going to loose it quicker - I think with 200lbs to loose maybe a year and a half? 2 max. And that's if you incorporate excercise, just little things like maybe doing weights or walking around your backyard to get the energy so that you can do more. Oh and my doctor says a kg a week so thats 1/2 lb a week. It just depends on what your doctor says and where you are

See you all post good points. I think another thing that would sway people is if they have a life threatening condition and need to shed the weight quick. And Banded2Gether I have done the research but for me it was more the fact that doctors told me I was getting it done and that was that lol sounds strange I know and in any other circumstances anyone would say no, luckily I have always wanted to loose the weight and my doctors are willing to fund this for me. Basically what happened was my doctor told me I should consider lap band, 2 months later I had a consult with one doc who gave me a consult to the surgeon who said "Sure I'll do it for you" Eh confusing right? -
Anyone have chocolate breaka's post op for extra protein?
Sarah.R posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know that your not supposed to drink your calories/carbs and what not but I was wondering if anyone drank chocolate breakas during there post op to get extra protein in? I'm currently on medication that has thinned out my hair and I'm worried that if I don't get the extra protein in I'm going to go bald. I just had a chocolate breaka before and was reading the nutritional information and it doesn't seem that bad - For a 250ml breaka it's 8.0g of protein. 9.3 g of fat and 24.5 g of carbohydrates. I figure if I only ever had one maybe every 3 days just to get that extra protein/calcium it isn't so bad, especially since the fat content isn't huge compaired to other things. Also when I'm in hospital they give breaka's to people that need to get protein or extra energy so it makes me wonder that they are good to some extent just not all the time. So what does everyone else think? -
RNY - lapband...which way to go???
Sarah.R replied to Hollins2003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the overall thing for me was the fact that although I do have alot to loose it isn't enough for the gastric bypass. As MollyMolly mentioned you are on a band website so of course everyone is going to be more partial to the band - I can see the pros and cons of each but the thing for me was that with the gastric bypass I have seen so many accounts of people that have put the weight back on, mainly women that have children. They have the bypass, loose the weight and then have a baby and gain it back plus more. Overall the choice that should motivate you is health. That is the ultimate motivation for me - I'm only 20 - Never had abf, relationship, date, anything so you would think my motivation would be to be happy and look good right? Overall yes I do want to be happy and look good but I have severe health problems that outweight all of that by far. I just want to be healthy and know that I will at least live until I'm 40 which at this point I can't see happening (as horrible as that sounds.) Just think overall what you want in life, what you want out of life and how you think you will cope with each procedure. Good luck! -
Im so ashamed, and now scared
Sarah.R replied to jeremiahsmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your getting really severe pains I would make myself throw up, they say that vomitting can cause the band to slip but at this point if your in pain thats the only thing you'll be able to do right? Don't worry about others calling you cheaters 99% of the people I've come across on here have cheated on there post op diet so you have nothing to worry about in that sense. Maybe try drinking a little water. If in an hour or two if it's still really bad and you've made yourself throw up ring you doctors office, at first they might be a bit annoyed but overall they're there to help you and will want to if your in serious pain. -
When people say pain it also depends on a variety of things - Most that say it was rough usually haven't had surgery before where as others that have usually find it a walk in the park. If you've had surgery before then it may not be as painful as what your used to - I personally have had 2 lung biopsies and I'm hoping that this one isn't as painful - was in alot of pain after my biopsies - I figure though that the pain/discomfort of it all is outweighed by far by the fact that I'm going to be healthy and happy afterwards (not straight after but eventually) Good luck with surgery!

Umm I wouldnt be suprised if you gain heaps back. 15 Chickens? I mean seriously in what time period was this over? A month, a week, a day? You sound like your screwing around actually

I'm super excited about getting Lab Band Surgery but....
Sarah.R replied to cutiew/booty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I figure the cost of my health is more important than scars or pain afterwards, I mean yes afterwards for like amonth or so it's gonna be sore on my stomach and as someone who usually sleeps on there stomach it'll be hard but I'm more excited overall than anything -
Congrats and good luck, if you have any questions just ask around, everyone here is pretty friendly and extremely helpful when you need to ask something

You could always substitute the onion and avocado and have a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, the people that cant have bread should try toasted. I know I wont be able to eat bread afterwards but I'm hoping I can at least still have a vegemite and cheese toasted sandwich maybe once every month or so. Oh and EmmaF I'm definetly going to miss chip butties as well lol =(

Hey welcome. I'm in brisbane and will be getting banded soon by a Dr Ian Martin. Don't know exactly when but they tell me 2-5 months. This site is definetly good if your thinking about banding, it has alot of info - I'm totally at ease with getting mine and not worried what so ever. They also have recipes for different stages of the band which is great and overall the people here are extremely supportive. Any questions just ask around, you won't have to wait long for an answer as most go through certain things and like to tell those and be more informative!

Yeah your not trying to sell it but your telling me where to buy it? What a load of crap

So I'm not sure what the protein/carb/fat etc portions are in this but my family have always loved this recipe - It's cooked inside a pulled out part of a bread roll which I know alot of people can't do so you could always put it on toast - put in hors deauvres (sp?) cases or just eat it as it is. It's got alot of dairy in it so it's probably high in fat but when I think about it it's probably a good food when some are on the mushie stage. So here's the recipe - Also anyone not banded I guarantee will love this recipe - When we can't think of anything for dinner we usually have this as it's simple and easy and tastes sooooooooo good. 1 Cup of Cream 1 Cup of Sour Cream 1 Cup of Grated cheese Soup Packet (Powdered) - Cream of chicken or Cheese and Leek (we usually use cream of chicken, in australia we use continental cream of chicken simmer soup but anything thats a powdered form of cream of chicken will work) Onion Cob Loaf Chicken - If you want you can use chicken mince as it will be easier to digest - We usually use about 500g of chicken breast and cut it up finely Chop chicken and onion and cook in frypan Mix all ingredients together (obviously not with the cob loaf) Put in microwave for 5 minutes Slice top off and pull out inside of cob loaf Fill with mixture and put in oven for 10-15 minutes (Oven to be on moderate 180 which is 350 F for americans) If you need something quick and simple try this. We're actually having this for dinner tonight so I'll get a picture of it to show what it looks like - I guarantee once you try this you'll want to live on it lol

What pain medication did you take? Australian types
Sarah.R posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So I was thinking about this the other night and was wondering which pain meds people took? Things like herron, panamax or panadol? I was wondering for after surgery as theres a thread on here for which to take and not to take but it's american and it's annoying looking and seeing things like tylenol etc when we don't have the same things here. I know I won't be taking nurofen as you need food in your stomach to take it - maybe after a month if I still have pain and can actually have food I'll take it but until then which ones did you take? Did you just take normal panadol and crush it? Or maybe gel caps? Thanks in advance -
Ugh I know right lol, you can always substitute everything for low fat alernatives, I know you can get low fat cream and low fat sour cream and cheese, but maybe instead of sour cream you could also use yoghurt? It's basically the same kind of texture with less fat and sugar. But then again this is the kind of thing you have maybe once every 6 months lol. It's also good for barbeques, when we have parties we make them and everyone gathers around it - we usually do 2 and there gone within a couple of hours lol.

Ahh the disprin stuff? god those taste horrible lol but I thought that I may have to eventually end up taking them grrrrrrrr. At the moment we have panamax and nurofen, I find the nurofen so much easier to take but I dont want to have to rely on that so I dunno, I guess I might have to get the gel capsules especially when the non capsule I take them now and if you dont swallow them first they become chalky and get stuck on your tongue bleh -

Anywhere in particular where you got the liquid panadol? I know you can get it but I always thought it was for children as they can't really take tablets. Did you just get it from your pharmacy? -
high protien suggestions
Sarah.R replied to Jillian68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could try a soft boiled egg, I know that if I need more protein after surgery that's what I'll be doing, a soft boiled egg so that the yolk is still runny or maybe even a poached egg, eggs have alot of protein so I figure it will be the best thing overall that and there only little so you can have a full one and then still decide afterwards how you feel and if you think you need more protein maybe have half a shake? -
For the whole being sick part maybe get him to take a multi vitamin, you can usually also get certain vitamins that boost your immune system - I'm currently on immune supressant drugs so I know everything about getting sick - the usually have some good brans at pharmacies - the most expensive usually isn't overall the best.
-
Why is this in the australian thread? We don't have Acai Berry here
-
No I know what you mean, I definetly prefer the treadmill at home as well but instead of treadmill maybe an excercise bike lol, it's good because my aunt has a crosstrainer and treadmill so I'm thinking of asking if I can borrow it for a while - be handy in the winter months because it's too cold to go out and that way I figure I can watch tv and excercise - still being a bum but an active bum lol
-
2 for $85 - cheap - if only I could find it for 2 for $60 lol. Yeah my dietician with my surgeon gave me this thing that outlines the foods I can and can't have while on the shakes, they aren't too bad and it says I can have them everyday but I don't think I will - I figure the first 10 days I might have vegies with dinner maybe 3 times but in the last 4 days before surgery I'm just going to stick to the optifast. It's so confusing tho because she wants me to take all this other stuff like supradyn for vitamins which is fair enough and then sustagen for protein and stuff so I'm so going to be over shakes by post op lol
