    LB Removal percentage rate???

No idea, but my doctor did tell me that with each year that passes that you have the band the percentage goes up. Which you know you'd expect anyway
  2. Hey, are you in aus as well? Well as for the whole doctor thing, I don't even really know anymore, it's just getting way too complicated, I'm going with the public system and they've told me I'm on category 2 which is 3-6 months and those 6 months run up in november so hopefully I'll find a date out by then, if not then can expect a black eye from moi lol

  3. I know right, I thought people were trying to loose weight not gain it, bit annoying really

  4. I'm sorry but I thought people were supposed to be on here to loose weight? Sure I know you won't get approved if you don't have a specific bmi, but intentionally gaining weight just so you can get a free surgery? Sorry but that seems pretty wrong to me

    the drinking game

I agree with shamrock, if you drink when you eat your not going to feel as full, as for an hour afterwards I was told 15 minutes before you eat have like a glass of water and then wait half an hour after food, which is lucky, I don't think I could wait an hour
  6. Hey I'm in brisbane as well, although I'm not going with your surgeon - Going with one available at the pa. Congrats on choosing the band and everything - at least you have a date, for me going with the public system is for a better term of words - stupid lol. But it was offered to me free and everything is being paid all I have to do is wait on a surgery date. Good luck with yours!
  7. No offense or anything but you resent getting it because your in pain? That's pretty stupid, no surgery comes without pain and ones that do I'd be worried more about it. Everyone on here has chosen this for one reason or another and obviously everyone knows you have to take a bit of pain to get the best result. I mean seriously

Tried to Talk Me out of the Band

What I want to know is where do they find the "leaders" for these groups? Do they just pick someone that's had the gastric bypass or rny for the longest period of time and think they know everything? Of course everyone is bias you ask the lap banders which is the better wls of course there going to say the lap band, same for the gastric bypass, ds, rny and whatever other method there is out there. But if you also talk to the gastric bypass patients you'll see that alot of them actually come across lazy in the fact that the reason they don't consider the lap band is mainly because they don't want to see a doctor regularly and maintain the fills. Also the fact that you loose 100lbs in 3 months is definitely appealing but I'd rather loose 100lbs slowly over a year or so and know that I did it the right way rather than basically starve myself and have half of my stomach cut away

    LAP band to bypass....?

I wish like the gastric bypass patients I could loose 100lbs in like 3 months but to me that is completely unrealistic the only other way I would have thought people could loose that much is if they were starved or there was something severly wrong with them, the fact that I'll loose slow doesn't bother me whatsoever, I've never had any huge weight loss so something as simple as 5 kgs (10lbs) is definitely going to make me happy. Plus you talk to all the people that have had the gastric bypass and the main thing they say about not getting the band is the upkeep on the band, mainly the whole getting fills and maintaining that and seeing doctors, to me that just comes across as lazy but then again that's just my opinion

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY

Don't worry, everyone has there own preference, I joined a site called obesity help and its majority of people on there are the bypass patients, I asked one question and I got completely blasted, I said I knew all the facts and then listed them and one woman went on to b*tch about I was listening to selling points if you will of lap band, this site is great though everyone on here is extremely supportive and it's the only one I found that is mainly for lap banders
  11. One thing I don't think people realise is that the centimetres are more important than the weight overall, the centimetres you loose around your stomach are more important
  12. You shouldnt have to persuade people to making you think this is the right thing for you, if you personally think it is then it is overall the best decision, I'm only 20 but I'm looking at major complications further on in my life that will be there with or without the weight, of course it's going to be harder with the weight so my doctors have told me I need this, I haven't told alot of people and even then I'll only be telling my 2 sisters, mother and father and maybe a future hubby who knows, but the thing is all these people know I have health issues not relating to my weight for years, since I was 10 and diagnosed with something similar to cancer, if they want whats best for me then they will be supportive, it may take some time for them to get used to the idea but thats something I'm willing to wait for, also thanks for the link, I'll definitely get them to watch it once I tell them about it.
  13. Sooo it's kinda like a mini throw up? If you know what I mean? I get them now anyway and I'm not banded but it's usually with certain foods, hopefully that'll stop once I'm banded lol
  14. 71 lbs from november with only one fill? thatspretty good, I hope I'm like that when I get mine

    just got my referal

One thing I forgot to ask and still deciding whether I should ring the nurse is what kind of stitching they use to sew up the surgical sites like do they use staples, glue or stitches - I'm paranoid my doctor is going to use staples although I'm pretty sure he won't lol. One thing that I was told that suprised me when I saw the dietician is - I knew you couldnt eat stuff like stuff and bread afterwards which I'm still annoyed about but also things like the skin of the apple, if it stays in your mouth for a while afterwards you need to peel it as well as that also the skin on tomatoes but yeah. Look around theres heaps of things to help you on here

    Need some advice

Your most likely too tight, if you can eat steak and not chicken then theres something wrong, and usually if the chicken is marinated or something and continually basted then there should be no reason chicken should be dry
  17. My endocrinologist also told me this, it's just to make everything regular before surgery and also being on the birth control pill increases your chance of blood clots, at first when she told me I was kind of annoyed - I've been skipping for as long as I can remember which I know isn't healthy but I figure it's one thing I won't have to worry about, now I don't mind that I'm going to have to go off it for a month before, she never said a month after so I assume it's ok after surgery but I know I"ll be taking the pill to skip like 2 days before surgery because I don't wanna be on the table and have something happen if you know what I mean (I'm paranoid like that lol)

    Breakfast a no go

True, I've been thinking about breakfast solutions - if I am able to eat and the only that I can really think of that I like is stuff like poached eggs, weetbix, baked beans on toast, I figure there pretty good I mean baked beans thats half your fibre and heaps of protein right?
  19. Your macaw is gorgeous - just thought I'd let ya know!

    Liver Shrink Diet

Most surgeons require this because it will make it safer for surgery. It annoys me when people say oh I'm required to loose this for surgery - overall your not - the surgeon puts you on the diet to shrink your liver because the less fatty it is the safer the surgery will be and easier - he has to move your liver to get to your stomach thats why they require the preop and post op diet.
  21. With the story about Judy Nunn's husband? I dunno about others but that entire thing just annoyed the heck out of me, every single bit about it, the way the story was portrayed to me was basically that if you have type 2 diabetes it's nothing to be worried about because you can loose the weight if you gain it with the lap band, overall the thing that came across more is this "If you put on weight and get type 2 diabetes you can have wls to loose the weight" and it was just ridiculous, another thing that annoyed me is that her husband went in and then came out without diabetes - what a load of crap - you don't just go in and hey presto you don't have diabetes, the more weight you loose the less the risk and then it can be reversed, not just by having a surgery. Also another thing that annoyed me last night was the mail bag thing, I always knew weight loss surgery would have its doubters and what not and that just proved it, I think that overall the world is made up of 90% of people that have never known a bigger person or whatever and are down right against any wls. They think oh yeah your fat why don't you just eat less and excercise more, that is the constant that I'm always coming across - it's not that simple. Also there was a story on I think a current affair about 2 weeks ago about the girl that was thinking about lap banding at 14 and then decided to get it at 16 what did anyone think of that? I was pretty horrified, the girl was saying "oh yeah I've done this diet and this and this" but at 16 you lie - and for her I know if I was her and wanted the surgery more than anything of course I'm going to lie and say I've done every diet under the sun, the fact that her mother was encouraging her was pretty stupid as well, yes fair enough she is supporting her but the fact that she hasn't done anything else other than this to help is stupid. Soooo what's everyones thoughts on it? http://sixtyminutes.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=587150 That's the story
  22. I have a question for you, if you can't stick to those diets how do you think you'll go on the preop? I'm not trying to put you down or anything but if you can't even go a full day without cheating how will you go on an all liquid diet for 2 weeks?
  23. Sarah.R

Anyone watch 60 minutes last week?

I know, usually they have 2 comments, one good one bad and all they did was post that one from a guy that was bigger people should eat less and excercise more, I was definetly annoyed as well when I saw that mainly because I'm not your average big person I mean sure I eat out every one in a while but overall I prefer vegetables and salads for dinner - I always have, I've just grown up eating veges so I'm used to it now - usually my plate at the dinner table is filled with vegetables like zucchini, broccolli, cauliflower, squash, beans, carrots so much that I can't even get meat on the plate and we use bread and butter plates - so basically a sandwich fits on there and thats it. Then there are others that do eat fast food all the time, I was definetly annoyed with the mailbag - maybe they'll rectify the situation eventually or at least post some more pros
  24. Just reading thru old posts and that's not necessarily true, doggie bags are not illegal everywhere although in most they are, places like fasta Pasta still do it and a mexican place I go to called montezumas still do it, the only reason they make it illegal is because if you don't reheat the contents enough to kill bacteria there liable - so if you get sick from it you can sue them, but most people are smart enough to know that you reheat something til it's smoking hot to know it's warmed through right? And as for the kiddie meals I don't see why anyone should be refused - your paying them - your giving your money to them, if I ever came across anything like that I'd ask to see the manager, and if they refuse just leave, there loosing customers and probably more because if you choose to tell others that there service was horrible - they won't go there either which will mean more revenue loss for them - there not willing to do that so in the end they will probably agree.
  25. Hey! So if your on month 2 of your preop does that mean your being banded in novemberish?
