    Singles Meet-N-Greet

Actually I've come across heaps of people in aus that have had it on here the only thing that there isn't alot of is the guys.... especially my age =( but I'll do the same anyway. Sarah. 20. Australia. Not banded hoping to be early next month. Looking for whatever lol. Umm no children and dunno about that just yet. And profession is currently "between jobs" but I'm at school which is boring lol

    Lap Band Cookbook Anyone?

I'm pretty sure there are books you can get already, theres like 2 out but one only for recipes and from what i've heard their not even good, i'd definitely buy one if it had every from pre op foods to every single food you can have post op plus what to do/eat after you have fills

What's Love Got to do With It?

I think you'll find most single bandsters feel the same, i do as well and im not even banded yet how sad lol =(
  4. So I was asleep this morning but my mum got a call from the dietician at the hospital and she said that I've been approved to be the first person at the pa here in brisbane to get the band in the public system - yay- I've been waiting since may and it's only on tuesday that I started to get depressed wondering if this was actually going to happen so really it's the best time ever to get the news, I was told in may I'd be on a category 2 list which is 3-6 months but the letter the dietician got is more like early December which is fine, the only thing I'm gonna be peeved about is I'm gonna be on mushies for christmas and cuz christmas is soooo hot here I really don't feel like eating mashed potato and what not lol - although I probably will loose more if I sweat it out lol so yeah. I'm actually really happy now, I mean with the way this is going I will be the first one ever on the public system at the pa, usually people get banded there but they have to pay for everything themselves where as cuz I have been approved for the public system I don't have to pay a cent, not anything for an anesthiest (sp?) nothing for fills (What I am super excited about) I mean in america you have to pay either a little for fills/you only get a years worth or you get it half off but this way I will not have to pay for a cent for anything, really the only thing I have to pay for is the pre op diet which is like $50 soooo I'm pretty f*cking happy as you can imagine lol. Actually I'm glad I'm one of the first because now that this has been approved at my hospital it's only going to take 6 months and then there will more than likely be a 5 year waiting list but I'll be done in like less than a month Oh and wtf is up with the new website? It looks crappy and I can't get into the chat room =( grrrr

Cost of getting LB put in?

Umm for me personally it was $150 all up :biggrin::wink2::biggrin:
  8. I think it depends more on your age bracket as well, I'm20 and I've read numerous accounts of others on the teen part where there friends have been annoyed at them, mainly because they've known them this whole time as one person and there changing that, I think in your case cuz your older it'll probably be way easier to tell your friends/family etc

    whats everybody reading?

Yeah my sister got me onto the twilight ones when I was in hospital last year, there ok except the last one - not that great, now she has me on this eragon one/ same as the movie, pretty good so far.
  10. Sarah.R

    Hi from Australia

Actually the waiting list is more like 5years depending on where you go lol =( I'm being treated in brisbane and I was supposed to have my date/surgery by this month or next but you can't really trust the public system much when it comes to this kinda thing you know. If you look around the people on ehre arepretty friendly and usually open to answer any questions you want.

    Looking for particulars

Hey new filter, I haven't had a transplant yet but the reason I am getting this surgery is because I may need a lung transplant in the next 5-10 years. If you need to talk to or have any questions asked feel free to email me on here. Sarah
  12. Sarah.R

    Yeah my own kind!

Doesn't it annoy you how people tend to leave messages saying "wow your lucky you can get it that young, your lucky you can still drink at that age" etc sooooooo f*cking annoying lol. Personally I don't drink now anyway, never have been a huge drinker and actually havent been banded yet (annoying) but I doubt I'll be a huge drinker afterwards either, like every now and then you feel like something but I guess I'll just have to watch what I do actually drink now =(

    Clear Liquid Recipes...

Question, what does being jewish have to do with eating soup? Lol
  14. Sarah.R

    Cincinnati bandsters ! Please help!

Soooo you don't care where you get a job as long as you get a free lap band from them?
  15. You do know that only like 5% of people can stomach fresh bread and what not after surgery right?
  16. Sarah.R

Anyone know the life-span of bands?

I'm not sure about the life span but I was told by my surgeon for every year that you have the band obviously the risk of re doing the surgery and putting a new one in or complications goes up
  17. Just wondering. My dietician has told me he has done heaps of surgeries and I was just wondering if anyone has been banded by him either at the Wesley or possibly PA?
  18. Lol yeah we are talking about a qld hospital but when you look at teh other cases they are good I guess, and yeah he does still work at the hospital but your hearing all this stuff about hospitals now about the pa as well how there short on beds and everything and as my surgery is classified as optional or whatever people that have the more critical cases are obviously going to come first you know =( Sucks but theres not alot you can do until then
  19. I'm not really sure actually, I have heard of a case on yahoo where some people don't have health insurance and he did it at the pa hospital through them, I'm not sure how that works entirely though. This is the thread I meant, Dr Ian Martin Brisbane - experiences? - Lap Band Surgery - Australian Lifestyle Message Boards And this is his actual website although it isn't as updated as most other surgeons, Dr. Ian Martin, Dr. David Martin - General Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Morbid Obesity Surgery, Australia For me the fact that he is employed by the public system and at a hospital that has good feedback (pa) makes it more reliable I guess, I mean he wouldnt really be able to get into the public sector without good recommendations or anything right?
  20. No it's cool, I actually feel guilty the way I'm getting mine, when I was 10 I developed a disease, it was treated with chemo and then I got better, it affected my lungs, then when I was 15 I got the flu and ended up sick again, then last year at 19 I got sick again and the doctor told me that if I kept having the reoccurence of sickness or whatever then it may lead to a lung transplant in about 5-10 years, because he wants me to be in the best shape possible, the hospital I'm going to are willing to fund the operation for me, if you know they had of said, would you be willing to fund this yourself and get it, I wouldn't have been able to get it you know, so that's my specialty case I guess, he told me in june this year that it would be a category 2 surgery meaning 3-6 months and those are up in november sooo not really sure where I go from here actually =(
  21. Sarah.R

    Disappointed~?~

Sure you could do it on your own but have you ever heard the statistic that 90% of people that loose that weight gain it back over 5 years, alot of people will disagree with me but in fact it's actually the truth, I even saw a guy on oprah one time who came back 5 years later and had gained it back plus more, just think to your self, do you want to loose that 110lbs and be happy with yourself? Or loose it and gain it back plus an extra 50lbs or so? If not then just think of it that way, the band is obviously no easy way out especially when alot of people have to deal with the side affects of eating too quickly, not chewing enough and vomitting, so really it's not the easy way out at all.
  22. Lol yeah, I don't mind waiting as much because really the only thing I'm paying for is the shakes before and after and to see the dietician which I can claim back on medicare which isn't too bad =)

  23. As long as the food your eating isn't really dry I don't think it would be a problem for me, like don't have crackers with ham and tomato you know lol cuz that will just make you thirsty.
  24. The reason you need to have clear nailpolish is so they can check if your fingers are going blue from oxygen deprivation. Just a precaution, I've seen some things about people that leave there piercings in but I personally have always been told to take them out
  25. Sarah.R

    I want my life back.

I kinda know the feeling, I had to go see another doctor yesterday and I've kind of been ignoring the scales when they weigh me, well yesterday I decided to look and I almost burst out crying, I knew I was 115 or so but in about a month and a half I put on 6-7 kgs so that's basically going from 253 lbs to 267. Like you I've kinda shyed away from friends and everything, mainly because I don't want them to see me the way I am now even though they've known me the entire time like this but I dunno. If you need someone to talk to feel free to message me.
