  1. Hey thin, thanks for the comment, I wish I could contact insurance but I'm not going thru any, the only reason I'm getting surgery is because my doctors want me to be healthy and they're willing for the hospital to foot the bill, if they weren't willing to do that I wouldn't even be having surgery, yes it's totally unprofessional but theres nothing I can do which blows but hopefully they'll give me some good news soon.

  2. Hey, I wish I could contact my insurance but I'm actually getting the surgery for free - my hospital is paying for it so I'm not going thru any of that, which is dissapointing because they technically can screw me around =(

  3. Hey Julie. No I can't change surgeons, here in aus I'm only getting the surgery because of things that will happen later on in my life so I'm not even paying for it either which also means no choice in which surgeon I get, it sucks but I can't really do anything =(

    I'm soooo excited!!

I don't want to sound harsh or anything but I have 2 questions - One I thought that you weren't allowed to have transplants when you where overweight - I'm going thru the same hurdle as that and also the 2nd is so much a question but I heard that the cutoff age for lapband was 60?

One of those GREAT angles, lol

Yeah, all of mine are taken at the same angle as well, hide the double chin, show off the boobs and hide the arms lol
  6. I'm tuesday as well - The 31st =) Although technically mine will be before yours cuz I'm in aus lol
  7. Hey I was just reading your thread about people from high school and just think of it this way - In 20 years those people are gonna be the fat ones, chunky thighs, wobbly stomachs and cottage cheese on there asses - Your gonna be the hot one. Try not to take what they say to heart =)

  8. Hey Laura, honestly it's your decision - I won't be telling friends even though they would probably understand why I'm having it - I have alot of health problems not related to my weight and if I explained it enough they would probably understand - eventually I think I will tell them but for now I'm not - As for what to say, be honest about certain things. Just say you've started really caring about what you eat - say you've cut out breads, Pasta and rice which technically you'll have to do and as everyone knows they're high in carbs so of course cutting them out will make you loose weight - That's basically all they will really need to know, and in the future if you feel like telling them you won't feel guilty by saying something untruthful. Edit** My bad I didn't realise I'd already wrote something lol

How do you tell your friends?

Overall the real reason people are usually against it is because they don't really know alot about it, maybe tell your friends like what it exactly is and how it will benefit you, also maybe add in that although you may not have health problems now they way things are going they might happen? I decided to only tell my immediate family (mum, dad and sisters) and then my mother told my aunt who eventually told her son and will eventually tell her daughter and then my mum told my grandmother (even though I said she could) but the fact is basically my entire family is going to know which you know fair enough because I have alot of health problems anyway so they would probably understand - As for friends - I also have a couple of overweight friends who I won't be telling, mainly because they might react the wrong way (most likely will) or react as though why don't you just do something else about your weight or why can't they have the surgery as well? Maybe you can always suss them out and see what there opinions are if you were to get it - in a hypothetical question kinda way
  10. Thanks =) It better of looked good for $55 bucks lol

Newbie - 3/31/09 is my date!

Hi Anne, my dates also the 31st, not really nervous as my original date was the 17th so probably be nervous on the day, as for what to expect for the next few months, theres the switching from white bread to multigrain, no more drinking with meals and also drinking anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour before food and then waiting 30 minutes to an hour after (just depends on your doctor.) This sites pretty good as basically anything you want to know is in the forums and if it isn't then theres always people in the chat to help you out.
  12. So I'm allowed clear fluids for 10 days after my op but the only kind of Soups that I can think of that are clear and can fit thru a straw (has to be the consistency to fit through a straw) are chicken noodle Soup (packet kind) without the noodles and french onion soup (packet kind.) I'm pretty sure I can't survive for 10 days on just those 2 soups lol so if anyone has any recipes or can even link me to another part on this forum where theres some because I can't find any I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
  13. Yeah I cheated lol, I felt bad after tho but oh well, and because my surgery is the 31st it would have meant that I'd have to be on the shakes/preop for a complete month so straight after they said I wasn't having the surgery I went to maccas lol, I ate that day and the next day and then started the shakes again but omg had the worst reflux ever cuz I was just eating crap but oh well, so 3 weeks without food? When do you start on the puree stage?

  14. Well some cancer patients required surgery, I was on reserve so I went up there anyway but it didn't happen which I'm kind of actually relieved about because I cheated so much on preop anyway lol, now I have 8 days to go until actual surgery and it's been way easier. So how did your surgery go?

  15. I know exactly what your going thru, I was supposed to have surgery on the 17th this month and I have a wedding to go to on the 14th and was planning on saying I had a stomach bug and things don't sit well with me at the moment so I dunno anymore but as for after I'm just going to say I don't eat alot of bread/pasta/rice afterwards which in actuallity is true - You don't eat heaps of bread Pasta or rice. Honestly it's your decision for when you want to tell people and I personally won't tell people until I feel comfortable - they can assume all they want but until I feel comfortable with everything in my life I won't be telling them. Edit** Another thing I wanted to add - I have alot of health problems and although I realise alot of people would be supportive afterwards because they know this and they know I need to do something for future health reasons I still feel like they'll say something horrible. I've told my mum, dad and 2 sisters and my aunt and that's the only family that knows - My older sister doesn't see why she should keep it a secret even though she has - We have another family we're friends with and she said what should I say to them? And I just told her tell them I'm having a bronchoscopy or something in hospital (as my date was previously 6 days before my 21st and they'd be wondering why I couldnt eat anything) but I think when I do get surgery I might use the hernia as an excuse, like furious said - they're happy about loosing but feel horrible in the fact that people might think they've failed and that's my whole reason, I don't want people to just turn around and say "we'll why don't you just eat less and excercise more?" For some people that is a good thing but I have lung problems and even walking up stairs is hard regardless of my weight, then add on that that I am on medication that makes me gain weight and I'm looking at a transplant in 5-10 years and I know some people will be happy that I'm doing this for myself but you can't always predict someones reaction to something Sorry this was so long, wanted to put my 2 cents in

    I got my surgery date!

Congrats, mine was supposed to be the 17th as well but it was postponed because of some cancer patients (totally pissed about that) Anyway let me know how your surgery goes!
  17. Hey, yeah my surgery was postponed, kinda depressed about that but theres nohting I can really do, I've been on the preop for 10 days and have no clue what I've lost, but because it's been rescheduled I'm more than likely gonna be on the diet for a whole month =( Sooo not looking forward to that lol =) Keep in touch though =)

You can buy McLeods on the sunnybank obesity clinic website

    Let's do this!!

Yikes, 732 true and false questions? Tha't ridiculous but then again I've heard of alot of people on here having to do that, I know what you mean about the date tho, I've been kinda screwed around and then got my date on the 27th of feb for the 17th this month which is annoying to say the least lol. Anyway these forums are pretty good, especially the food and nutrition board for when you get the date and are stuck on recipes for afterwards. Good luck =)
  20. You're so lucky that your shakes actually taste good lol, mine are horrible it's like the consistency of sand and then even when you shake it up it still smells like it hasn't been, it's horrible. And yeah I've decided I'm not gonna worry about bread until like 2 months down the track lol, that way I can focus on other food and eventually put it back in my diet if I decide I'm even gonna do that =D

    "Lucky Losers" (March 2009 banders)

Brisbane, Australia. Surgery date is the 17th and at the moment I'm on day 6 of my optifast stage and it sucks =(

    Drinking while eating

Exactly what mec said, what's the point in going thru this entire process to drink at meals when the food will be washed away and you won't feel full so you'll go back and eat again, I don't have the band yet and I know it's going to be hell trying to change my habits but it will definitely be worth it - Just remember every doctor tells you something different, mine said diet drinks are fine as long as the fizz is gone - the only one I've found that the fizz goes straight away is pepsi max lite so I'll be sticking to that. As for drinking with meals mine is 15 minutes before have a drink then wait 30 minutes after, pretty good compaired to some who are told to wait 45 minutes before & after.
  23. Hey congrats on getting the sleeve, don't really know as much about that as the band but know it works, my date is the 17th for the band and do you hate optifast as much as me? Lol

    Newbie

Usually you aren't the one that schedules the date, the doctor will do it when he has the next free date in his schedule but congrats, march 23rd is my birthday
  25. It never really clicked that without food in the pre op phase I wouldn't have energy, I've been on the shakes for 6 days now and it's only yesterday that I felt exhausted, I don't know how anyone that has a job can deal with this, I don't have a job which usually I'm bummed about but at this point I'm glad I don't because I never would be able to work and be on the shakes, I feel exhausted even after 10 hours sleep which is ridiculous. Anyone else encounter this?
