    Starting bmi?

Mine was 45.5, one of the highest I've seen on here but a woman did tell me hers was 47. I do have co-morbidities but I also didn't go thru an insurance company so even if I didn't have them I would have had surgery. Good luck =)

    Just starting the process

For me it was overweighed more by the pros. Being healthy, Living past 30, having a happy life, not needing more medical interventions. The only cons? The fact that the band might erode or slip but for me the pros far outweighed any risk.
  3. Lol sorry, my sister had to use the computer for her assignment - The one thing that sucks about a "family" computer lol

    Banded 2 June - Melbourne

I also had heaps of burping after, still do at 3 weeks out. Be careful with the tea though, alot of people are told not to have it because it has some caffeine in it. 3 Weeks out and I have one in the morning to take my tablets but I also have to be careful with the amount of sugar. I have 3 teaspoon which to anyone would be alot but compaired to what I used to have it's a tiny amount. Good luck with everything and I hope you feel better soon =)
  5. You could try looking at a cystic fibrosis menu, people with cf are thin and have to have high protein meals so you could try that.

    Oatmeal

Almost everyone posting will more than likely say you ate too much. That and I think oatmeal tends to swell in your stomach like breads. Maybe try having half of what you did normally?

    Charlis Lap Band Journey, Perth

Lol Charlie try not to worry too much, for me my surgery was postponed 2 times so I got used to the anxiety of waiting. Once your in the hospital gowns and there wheeling you to surgery - THEN you start to panic lol. I had pain for about 2 days after surgery but overall the thing that helps is walking. Alot of people get gas afterwards, for me all I got was alot of burping (thankfully) but I still walked around the ward 4 or 5 times. Then when I got home the thing that hurt most was where the port is and my arms and sides from pulling myself up (also had to get my mum to help me out of bed for about a week after) umm people also sometimes get shoulder tip pain which is like right at the top of your shoulder - I've only had it twice and it was on tuesday 3 weeks out. Try using a heat pack for that and also walking helps - Don't take nurofen cuz it can affect the stomach lining - I lived on the mini panadol capsules for about a week and went thru 2 packs but my nurse said it was ok as long as I wasn't letting the pain get beyond unbearable. Just remember to listen to the guidelines they give you, some people don't and it kind of sets them up for failure (like the one chick who claimed she was only banded for 11 days and could eat whatever she wanted, uhh liar much?) Lol so yeah.
  8. Okay? Well that's just stupid, I guess it doesn't really matter anyway because apparently when your in there they put this thing on your leg that blows up and down during surgery to help circulation, I woke up with this like thing on my leg thinking "okay what the f*ck?" lol.

  9. I was just looking at your myspace and you look awesome - congrats. Oh and I'm in love with your jeep lol.

    Consultation Tomorrow!! NERVOUS!!!

Hey Roxy. Congrats!!! People are always going to have an opinion but as long as you know this is right for you then that's all that matters. For me I didn't have insurance, all I had to pay for was my preop as I was my surgery was funded by my hospital. As for the whole process it's definitely nerve wracking, you question whether this is actually the right thing to do and whether or not you've exhausted every other option. I was done may last month and I still have doubts but I know overall I wouldn't of been able to keep the weight off if I did it by myself. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions =)

    Lap band vs sleeve?

I've heard sleevers actually maintain the weight loss longer over time but overall it's personal preference. The guy that runs this site has just actually started a vertical sleeve talk website so maybe you could try and find some info out there? I'm pretty sure the url would be verticalsleevetalk.com. Good luck either way =)
  12. Ugh that is so rude. Man you're lucky I wasn't their with you if I heard someone say that and they where getting the band as well and they said in front of others I just would of been like "Same reason your getting it FATTY" I mean ugh, that's pissed me off. I can't believe a person getting the band can be that shallow. Old hag. Lol sorry

Please do NOT take this wrong..

I read the exact same thing and thought it was also strange, cept this person had lost 100lbs in 3 months which sounded fishy to me. Some people maybe 5% of people on here only ever need one fill and there set, there definitely lucky. There's also been one person on here (tomander) that's only ever had 4 fills so it just depends on the person and how much willpower they have I guess.

    Paid to Post - ALERT!!!

Definitely annoying, there was actually a woman in that chat room and I don't know whether she was one of those people but it sure seemed like it, she wasn't exactly bagging the surgery but the thing she said made her story sound completely untrue. She supposed had surgery and was 11 days out. Had 1.5cc in her band and could eat whatever she wanted. Now as we all know that isn't possible at all, at 11 days out your either still on fluids or at the pureed/mushie stage. But the thing is there where alot of people that where just banded in the chat room at the time that seemed like they believed her, it just annoyed me so much.
  15. I've told maybe 6 people to there face and they have all been very supportive, then others found out from family members and some of them who I didn't expect to be supportive at all where actually really great about it - One surprise was from my grandmother who has always said little things on the side about my weight even though she isn't exactly slim, when she heard that I was having it she was ecstatic and so happy for me which was great coming from her. I've had alot of health problems and I think that maybe that's why there so supportive, they know that I have other stuff wrong with me and in the long run this will help me. I worry about telling friends though because even tho they know I've had health problems they don't know the extent and they may just reply with something like "well why don't you just excercise?" Eventually I will tell them but right now isn't the right time. This is something I needed to do for myself if I wanted to live past 30 and I have no regrets about that and if people do find out for some reason and they aren't supportive then that's absolutely fine with me - I would rather associate with people that are supportive and are going to be there for me rather than those that are going to belittle me and say that I should have done something else. The fact is if I didn't have this surgery and I have another flare up of the diease I have I WILL die, and I don't see how people can judge you on the fact that you want to live the healthiest possible life you can.

    Why are YOU Fat?

I'm fat because even if I woke up at 10am and ate, if it was 12pm I'd eat lunch and then 6pm I would eat dinner even if I wasn't hungry. My portion sizes where ridiculous and overall my doctors where the result of my weight gain. I've been on prednisone on and off since I was 10 and anyone that's been on it knows that a side affect is weight gain. I was one of those unlucky ones. I'm not saying that the doctors are to blame overall for my weight gain but most of it is - And they even acknowledge that.

    Can I get a fill?

Umm considering that the point of fills is too loose weight I don't know why anyone would tell you that cuz it sounds like a load of bs, the whole reason we get the fills is to loose so just call your doc for an appointment.
  18. So when's your actual date? Getting nervous much yet?

  19. Lol I dunno, they measure around your calves and even the biggest ones are massive. I took mine home lol so I can look sexy with them whenever =P

  20. Alot of people don't have anything to numb the area and still say that there wasn't any pain. I think that is kinda lame about some bypass patients but hey whatever floats there boat lol. For me I've been used to needles since I was 10 so it's no biggy for me =)
  21. I was done on the 12th last month and honestly, I'm 3 weeks out and I think I could just start soft food now. I was on clear fluids day 1-2 then free fluids there after until day 14, then pureed and mushie food until day 28 and then soft food/normal food after that. Before surgery I ate for boredom, I ate because if it was lunch time I'd eat, and my portion sizes where ridiculous. Now I'm hardly ever hungry, my stomach has rumbled at me maybe 3 times and the last time that happened was yesterday, woke up and had a drink then had my yoghurt at around 11am, then just drank for the rest and wasn't hungry til 4pm so I had a popsicle and just drank until 6 when I had some dinner. You could always ring your surgeon and see if you could trial some things, like mix and match, have soft food for breakfast, soft for lunch and then something different for dinner. Having something too early on in the recovery stage may cause problems down the track but if you watch what you eat now that might not happen (not saying it won't because slippage/erosion sometimes happens for no reason)
  22. The only thing I paid for was my preop shakes which where around $200, if I hadn't of got postponed twice it would of been around the $70 mark. No fill yet, my surgeon didn't fill my in surgery (I don't think) and my first fill is the 17th this month - So about 5 weeks out which isn't too bad. And who cares about getting your hopes up, you have every right to. I mean this is one of the most important parts in your life and you have every right to be nervous/happy/excited lol =)

  23. Oh my freakin god! You work at city chic? I'm jealous =(

  24. Good luck, my optifast stage wasn't exactly fun - Had to do it 3 times but the more I did it the easier it was lol.
