    Pre-Op Diet

My surgery is tomorrow (11/7) and I have been on a "liquid" pre-op diet for 2 weeks now and as of this morning, I have lost 15 lbs. My surgeon requires this to shrink the liver, etc. and it consists of 4-5 Protein shakes, broth, sugar free Jello, popsicles and 8oz of low carb yogurt (my big treat of the day). The first 4-5 days were really hard and then a swtich went off and I was no longer hungry. That doesn't mean I don't want to eat something, I am just not physically hungry for some strange reason. As much as I complained in the beginning, I have to admit that this phase has been worth every minute. It has given me a chance to really evaluate the decision I have made. As many say, this is not an easy fix and these two weeks have proved that already. Good luck to you!
  2. We've been on the road to surgery since January and have completed all reqwuirements, including 6 mo diet program, etc. SUrgeons office turned in paperwork to BCBS last week and providing that we get approval, we plan to have surgery in mid-October. Our surgeons office suggested that we both have surgery on the same day. But before we make a decision, I thought it might be good to get some feedback from those of you who have been down the surgery recovery road before. Could you have done it and handled recovery with your partner/spouse in the same condition? We have a young child but we also have a very stong support system with both sets of grandparents in town. One set of grandparents can keep him and the other can help with our needs. Are we crazy for considering this?? Thanks for much for any guidance..... Shan

    approval

Congrats! How long did approval with them take? From time of sending to you getting word that you were approved. I Have BS/BS NJ Horizon and am about to go to my last of my 6 month diet appointment.s. So ready to get this going!!!
  4. My husband and I are nearing the end of our required 6mo diet program. It's possible that we can get insurance approval and surgery scheduled by mid August - we plan to do this together but schedule surgery roughly a week apart. This 6 months has taken foever and we are sooo ready to get this thing going!! However, we have a 10 day trip to Hawaii Sept 3-13 that has been planned for a few years. How likely is it that we could have surgery in mid August and be able to travel (air, etc.) just a few weeks later. The Dr's office says that it's not a problem but I just don't know about this.. I appreciate any feedback from those of you who have been down this road before.... Shan
