  1. I have heard the same thing, and told don't worry, the hair will come back. lol. said by the dr. with all his hair. as Noni18 has said What causes excessive hair loss? A number of things can cause excessive hair loss. For example, about 3 or 4 months after an illness or a major surgery, you may suddenly lose a large amount of hair. This hair loss is related to the stress of the illness and is temporary. even our lap bands are major surgery. Hair problems Biotin supplements are often recommended as a natural product to counteract the problem of hair loss in both children and adults. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biotin#Hair_problems Biotin is widely distributed in a variety of foods, but most often at low concentrations. Estimates are that the typical U.S. diet provides roughly 40 ug/day. There are only a couple of foods which contain biotin in large amounts, including royal jelly and brewer's yeast. The best natural sources of biotin in human nutrition are liver, legume, soybeans, Swiss chard, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and carrots. This includes almonds, eggs, onions, cabbage, cucumber, cauliflower, goat's milk, cow's milk, raspberries, strawberries, halibut, oats, and walnuts. and eat or drink your Protein to stimulate your cells!!!!! Maybe we could start a photo gallery of our bald spots!! a before and after of course, because it does grow back!

    I can't eat!!!

I thought my band was too tight, but I have this!!:tongue_smilie: I had an Upper GI because my band seemed TOO tight 4 times. Hopefully, your band is just to tight... Symptoms of Achalasia:eek: The symptoms of achalasia most often occur during and after a meal. All patients experience the sensation of solids, and usually liquids, hanging up and passing slowly into the stomach. This may occur several times a week or at every meal. Effortless regurgitation of bland, undigested food or whitish foam (saliva) is common and may be associated with coughing and choking at night. Some patients experience chest pain, and heartburn is common. This heartburn is not related to acid reflux into the esophagus, but rather due to retained acidic food or the fermentation of food in the esophagus. Approximately 50% of patients will lose weight. Tests for Achalasia The diagnosis of achalasia is suspected by barium x-rays and confirmed by esophageal manometry. Barium studies of the esophagram (esophagram) show a distinctive narrowing of the lower esophageal valve, esophageal dilation with retained barium in the upright position, poor esophageal emptying, and to-and-fro movement due to the loss of orderly peristalsis (coordinated wave-like muscle contractions).
  3. At my last support meeting people were saying if you drink something HOT in the morning the rest of the day goes better than if you didn't drink something HOT. I always have coffee in the morning so I can't judge the validity of the suggestion but I can pass it along. Good Luck with journey!

    Restrictions

It's absolutely normal. Don't eat or drink to much though! Be careful because your poor stomach was just assaulted, or so it thinks.LOL it takes time for some inflammation (that you can't see) to go down. Take your time, your right on track. :-)

    Suddenly too tight...again

The most common symptom of achalasia is difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). Patients typically describe food sticking in the chest after it is swallowed. Dysphagia occurs with both solid and liquid food. Moreover, the dysphagia is consistent, meaning that it occurs during virtually every meal. Sometimes, patients will describe only a heavy sensation in their chest after eating that may force them to stop eating. Regurgitation of food that is trapped in the esophagus can occur, If the regurgitation happens at night while the patient is sleeping, food can enter the throat and cause coughing and choking. If the food enters the trachea (windpipe) and lung, it can lead to pneumonia (aspiration pneumonia). Because of the problem swallowing food, a large proportion of patients with achalasia lose weight.:wink2: SO, is the band to tight? Or is it THIS? I don't know if I had it before the band. I don't know if I have the band removed would this condition go away. All the web sites point to it getting worse. But we have cutting edge hospitals around here so,:smile2: for now I'm fine with it. Every pound lost is celebrated.

    Suddenly too tight...again

I too had my band reajusted 4 times! Each time I left the office it was fine for about a day and a half. Then no food or liquid would go down. I would have maybe 4 oz of liqiud and that's it. After the 4th restriction my Dr. sent me for an Upper GI where it was discovered that I have achalasia Achalasia is a rare disease of the muscle of the esophagus (swallowing tube). The term achalasia means "failure to relax" and refers to the inability of the lower esophageal sphincter (a ring of muscle between the lower esophagus and the stomach) to open and let food pass into the stomach. As a result, patients with achalasia have difficulty swallowing food. This discovery has yet to be discussed. I have had my 10c.c. band tightened other times and it has been fine. I think I'm at 7.5 c.c. now. SO it's slow going for sure! But I didn't get big in a year or two so any weight lost is a WIN!
  7. I love going to NYC. Maybe I could go to the con. I can't wait to hear more.

    looking for 18's...possibly 16's soon....20's to go

I'm just checking my ticker to update it. Also just bought 14 jeans called Angels. I think they are made big. At 195 I shouldn't be wearing 14's.

    looking for 18's...possibly 16's soon....20's to go

Just a quickie, how tall are you? I found another pair of 18's at a thrift store and no dressing room. They said 18 short. Levi Strauss. They are way snugger than the piper blues from K mart. and they don't drag on the ground like the jeans I have to wear big heeled boots with so I can walk. If I don't lose another 5 pounds soon I'll scream. and I'll never get out of the 18's. Ahhhh one day at a time!!!!!!!!

Hi Kay, and Thanks, I really feel like I accomplished something. I haven't seen the weight I'm at now for aaaaahhh, when I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter who's 20 now. LOL. I was at that meeting Wednesday night. I was sitting in front of the woman who was talking about how easy it is for her to get drunk now. She had the by pass surgery. We could have been at one or more of the same meetings. I'm the person who can eat Burger King ( no dressings.365 calories) for lunch and plateaued for 5 months. Shame on me! My Surgery was a breeze. I had no pain when I left the hospital, and never did after that either. I hope your that lucky. I felt like going out everyday after my surgery but I kept telling myself, NOPE stay home and grow back together, then after a week when he said ok I haven't been home ONE WHOLE DAY YET>LOL!! After surgery I lost 10 pounds because I was on liquids and Jello. At my 1 week check up he let me go back to work!!! And, I drive a school bus so I must have been fine or he would not have released me. I don't know what your approach will be to being banded but mine is, it took me 20 years to get this size so as long as I lose a little or stay the same but DON'T GAIN weight I'm happy. Beth always stressed to eat balanced meals and healthy Snacks and I try. I'm not doing great with the balance but I try daily! I will not "DIET"! I WILL teach myself to eat the proper foods and amounts. I had 3 FILLS until I felt any restrictions. That helped, but I actually needed 2 more until it got just right. After the 3rd fill I lost about a pound a week. The 4th stayed the same, so the 5th made it go to an average 1 1/2 a week. That was JULY. So 7 months after my surgery is when I felt full sooner. Breakfast is my high calorie start with 2 scoops of Protein powder 220 calories, and maybe a 80 or 60 calorie yogert. But not often, I'm to rushed in the AM to eat when I work. Weekends I have 2 eggs for breakfast and now I find that is a little much. YEAH! I can't seem to grasp the calorie counting with home cooking so I'm going for lean cuisine ($2.00 a box on sale) for lunch . And supper is chicken or Turkey and (truethfully) that's it. I later have some fruit or veggies while I watch tv. (before 8:30) I go to bed between 11-12. It is SO increadably cool though to wear an XL now I can't wait till I buy a LARGE. WOW. Good Luck, Dr. Boorse is great, and the Fall is a great time for broth and hot Soups, you'll love it. Diane

    Hello

HI, Your post came through fine. I'm sure you'll find this a helpful web site. Make sure you bookmark it and use it like a how to book. All your questions can be answered here! Currently I'm using it to find out what to eat daily that's different from what I was eating. Also like you I have had my 5th fill but in July. That was the best. I now feel restriction and that full feeling. I also have had a little trouble with it because I have been trying to drink to soon after I eat. But I'll get better at it. Good Luck, you'll do great!!

    Recovery time???

Like all surgery, it depends on your body, and what your job is at work. My Dr. said at least 1 week. I felt like I could go back the day after my surgery. But I'm an odd ball, surgery doesn't seem to hurt me too much. I am diabetic also if that matters. Good Luck.

    slow loser

Please don't let the co workers comments get to you. You at least took a positive step to change what YOU wanted to change in your life, have they had the courage to do something that brave. I didn't lose any weight from the week after my banding (New yEARS) UNTIL May. Then I lost 7 pounds and still don't know why. I eat the same foods Pre surgery, and lost weight and POST surgery  nothing) But my body was changing shape. I don't get it, I didn't weigh any less but people said I looked thinner. HA ha HA My body took 5.......5 fills to make a difference. Now I finally get that full feeling everyone talks about . That took 7 months!!! But look how long it took me to gain the weight! If I lose a pound a week. YEAH ME!!! Find some humor in it, your changing your life, for the better!! Diane

Hi Trish, Good Luck with your surgery I'm sure it will be a breeze. I had mine done there to. We probably have been at the same meetings, with Jerry and Beth. I don't know if I'm odd or not but the day I went home I had NOOO pain. I had to keep reminding myself to relax and not over do. I have never watched so many movies as I did that week. Make sure you have all your broth and jello and freezie pops and stuff . You'll do great.

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

Maybe we could make this a 90 days of summer promise; post what you ate yesterday! I personally need this help. Last summer while preparing for my lapband I worked a lot. Then school started and I worked even more. This summer, HELP!!!! I'm very partially employed and I'm home, unstructured and at a loss what to eat. So I could really use some ideas and your help. I've joined a gym but I need meal ideas. I'm also going to the dietician soon and taking "notes" lol. Please post or e mail me directly. PLeeeeeese. Thanks Diane

    Is anyone stuck?

I had not lost weight since my banding at Christmas. I lost about 45 pounds from July to my banding and that's where I was at. I weighed 225 for 5 months. Finally I weigh 214. Like I said before I have not changed a thing but my body finally got kick started again. Or at least I think so. It must puzzle the surgeon why I could lose weight before the band and not after. But I'm just happy I am. Schools out next week and since I will be unemployed for the summer, I'm going to join a gym. My support team will be thrilled. If I put a little effort into this who knows how far I can go. Thanks for saying you didn't lose weight after being banded. That was nice to hear. It's not a race.

    Is anyone stuck?

Hi everybody, Just a quick note now but for your amusement till later. I go to support meetings with other lapbandsters and they were whining about "I've plateaud for a week, for two weeks! Whine whine, gimme the cheese  I raised my hand and said I've plateaud for 5 months. Their mouths fell open and then they picked apart my life. Great support. I was doing the very same thing I was doing before the plateau and lost 50 pounds. Well since then, doing the same old things, I've lost 8 pounds. Hmm Wonder what they'll say next meeting. Have patients like they said here!!! This is not a race, this is not a race, really!! Diane banded 07 Christmas
  24. I lost 10 pounds in the week after surgery, then I didn't lose one more pound for four months. I'm waiting for my third fill and really hoping I start losing decently . My body is reshaping all by itself. Thank goodness it is. I actually have No time to exercise and hope to have time when schools over. So don't panic! Keep an eye on what your eating and in time WE WILL ALL be thinner.:-)

    Sex!!!

After I look at my papers again I'll post more specific information. But, there is a pain associated with sex that is from a disorder involving your pelvic floor. Weird name I know but combined with other seemingly not related aches and itches and symptoms it falls in the category of Womens Chronic Pain issues. I had a pain where my left ovary should have been, if I had one there and and after many tests it was found to be related to ALL these other issues I had and some women have painful intercourse as well. I'll get my papers together and post if anyones interested. Diane
