Scales (at home)...are any very accurate?
π Ίπ Έπ Όπ Όπ Έπ ΄π Ί replied to ebonie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've heard Tanita scales are awesome! There make some plain jane ones and then they have some that are about $90-120 or more that measure everything. Here's the description of my favorite one and a pic.... >> The Tanita BC533 Glass Innerscan Body Composition Monitor is one of the most comprehensive body monitors on the market today that's designed for home use. Using advanced Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology that was previously available only to medical professionals, health clubs and professional athletes. Monitoring features help you keep tabs on your body composition and health. There is more to healthy dieting than weight loss alone. Body fat percentage measurements are also important indicators of good health. This monitor analyzes a full range of body measurements, including weight, body fat percentage, body Water percentage, metabolic age, physique rating, visceral fat, muscle mass, and bone mass. It's a mouthful of measurements, but what it means is that with the Tanita BC533, you now have the unprecedented ability to monitor your body and the effects of your diet and fitness routines, comfortably and affordably in the convenience of your own home. -
Taking pills with the band...
π Ίπ Έπ Όπ Όπ Έπ ΄π Ί posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not banded yet but I'm curious if you can still take pills. I know most stuff you can get in liquid form, but what about birth control pills? They're tiny...but can u still take them? :glare: -

So far I've just read about the Allergan and Realize bands. Are there more? -
It looks like an awesome piece of technology but it sure is NOT for poor folk! LOLOLOLOL!!!!

Sorry, folks... I'm not banded yet, just on here stalking and reading. I've seen "sliming" mentioned along with the term "PB'ing" (which I do know what that is). I didn't know if people were spelling it like "slime-ing" or "slimming"...thanks in advance for the clarification!

Scared I Will Not Qualify
π Ίπ Έπ Όπ Όπ Έπ ΄π Ί replied to AmyK12's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the same fears as you. I haven't been approved yet but I finally got done with all the testing, poking and proding at the end of January. I never get sick but I've been a smoker for 10 years. Very light....light enough that when I got my yearly bout of the upper respiratory infection 2 weeks ago I was able to quit completely. But anyway...I was so scared the doctors were going to find cancer or something horrible after running all of these tests since I haven't regularly gone to the doctor for checkups (never get sick except once a year). Turns out I'm healthier than I thought...just fat...LOL! I also was just diagnosed with PCOS a couple weeks ago...its mild (no cysts, no insulin resistance) but bad enough to keep my periods missing and keep me from ovulating. Just get done with these tests as quick as you can, I'm sure you'll be just fine! Then once you get banded, most of your health issues will disappear...that's what I can't wait for! Take care -
Hey guys! I'm pretty new here...I mostly stalk. I'm just waiting for my insurance approval. I am VERY curious about the little names and acronyms from certain things related to lap band...I have no idea what people are talking about! For example, what is "PB'ing"? Stuff like that.... Please list as many little bits of jargon only banders know and let me in on this whole new world I'll be experiening shortly. I can't find a defintion page or anything for lap band terms. Thanks in advance for everyone's input! have a great one

Also, what's this "Victorious Valentine" and "New Year Knock-Out" stuff? Anyone wanna share? -
Excellent advice! I'll definitely be ordering some of the Unjury. I went to the website and read all the info. It sounds great!

I'm also a Dr. John Marsden patient. I haven't met him yet but the company AIGB (American Institute of Gastric Banding) is who he's affiliated with. They're in Hurst. One of my work buddies used him and recommended that office which is why I decided to go there. So far everything with them has been seamless. All my tests are done and I'm just waiting for the insurance to say OK. My first visit there was 1/13/08 and everything was complete by 1/31/08..... 817-520-5430...good luck!!!!

lap band for a bmi of 34ish
π Ίπ Έπ Όπ Όπ Έπ ΄π Ί replied to elismommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The place I go, they call people in your situation "Low BMI Cases". They do exist. It depends on your insurance if they will cover weight loss surgery if your BMI is low. Like my insurance will only pay for surgery if your BMI is 40 or higher. You may end up having to pay out of pocket for your surgery but honestly it all depends on your insurance. Hope that helps! -
This is such a relief to read...my drive has gone waaaaay down along with self confidence and all the other stuff that comes with not liking yourself because you dont think you're attractive anymore. I know my hubby loves me and he assures me that no matter how much I weigh he'll always want to be with me. So that's definitely helpful...but there's always that nagging little thing in the back of your head thinking..."how can he even stand to look at me when there are way more attractive specimen out there..." My drive is one thing I'm certainly looking forward to getting back...thanks for the post Indyguydon!

Sleep Study at Comprehensive Sleep Medicine
π Ίπ Έπ Όπ Όπ Έπ ΄π Ί replied to bling's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went there for my study...it was a really nice place. Big comfy bed and flat screen TV. I didnt get to watch it for very long though before they were sticking wires all over me, LOL! It's true, it's so hard to sleep. I tossed for hours. The thing that bothered me the most was the air flow monitors they stick in you nose and in front your mouth. They tickled ALL NIGHT!!! You can't sleep on your stomach because they supposedly can't diagnose sleep apnea if you do...so that sucked too since I absolutely can't sleep on my side or back. Supposedly they got enough data and found I didn't have sleep apnea...even though I snore like a freakin grizzly bear with a head cold...I still don't have it. Plus if you have long hair, you'll have a time getting that toothpaste gook out from the electrodes they stick on your head....but hey...it's the price to pay to get this surgery done so just go with the flow and take a lot of Nyquil after you get hooked up! -

Thanks for starting this post, Brooke! I was about to do the same thing I'm still going through all my pre-op testing so I'm about a month away from actually being banded. I'm such a noob, it freaks me out! I feel like I know nothing at all! I'll definitely be stalking the threads on here because there sure seems like a lot of info to absorb. Good luck to all the other noobs out there getting ready for the big day!!!!
