Ladies: How has surgery affected your cycle?
๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Iโm assuming losing a large amount of weight is going to throw our cycles way out of whack since a good majority of our lady hormones are stored in fat. How has your โmonthly un-giftโ or other lady stuff been affected? -
Just got bumped up to solids!

Havenโt had surgery yet but Iโve used MyKeto for so long...probably about 2 years. Itโs so easy to use and has an excellent food database. Easy to add your own foods and serving sizes, scan labels, etc. Tons of resources in settings. Here are a couple screenshots...donโt mind the macros I havenโt finished logging my food today ๐ -

How to reduce scarring on incisions?
๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ replied to paulec74's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep! It's definitely effective. Your incisions don't have to be 100% healed before you can apply the ScarAway. It creates a protective barrier and helps healing. You can also buy silicone strips. They can get pricey, but the stuff is worth it. Not sure why I never tried Bio-Oil. My mom and sister swore by it for a long time for stretchmarks. Most of my tiny, thin scars are completely gone that I can't even take pics of them. -
How to reduce scarring on incisions?

I was in a car wreck last year and have all types of scars...surgical and from injury. I used ScarAway pretty early on most of my surgical scars and things have healed quite well. I'd recommend for use on anything. Here's a pic of what I used. Also, here's a pic of my wrist that I had surgery on to fix broken bones...left pic is right when I started using the gel and 2nd pic is today, however, the today pic is roughly how it looked ~4mo after using the gel. -

Definitely interesting to hear this. I was in a bad car wreck last year and was on TONS of antibiotics. I eventually read that the type I was taking can have an effect on your cycle. My monthly โgiftโ has always been predictable up to a few days. A week after I took my last pill, here comes my period. I hadnโt had anything for nearly 2 months. Super weird how sensitive that part of us is...yay body science! -
Surgeon not found in directory - unable to add to my profile

When I attempt to add my surgeon, it fails...I'm guessing because he's not in the BP provider directory. How can he be added? This is what happens when I try...turns red then disappears. -

Looking for other Anthem Blue Cross PPO experiences.

My company was bought and our insurance will change to Anthem Blue Cross in January. The plan is called Prudent Buyer. My new employer is California based however I live in Texas. We havenโt enrolled in our selected plans yet however my HR person gave me the EOC for this year explaining all the coverage and stated nothing will change. Bariatric is covered and the only stipulation is that it must be deemed medically necessary and performed at a BDCSC facility. There are absolutely no other requirements listed like wait times, nutrition visits, etc. Anyone else have experience with this plan? -

This is exactly what I have not seen yet. Thank you so much!!! Edit: When you posted this https://wlsappeals.com/2792/walters_bariatric_surgery_blog/supervised_diet_requirement_eliminated/ ...do you think my plan falls under that? I won't have Anthem until January so I don't have the ability to call on the plan and my new HR lady is a tad not up to speed with the particulars of the plan... -
Does the type of protein matter?

Yup, this is what I use, the travel packets https://amzn.to/2QKMyPM it does say collagen is not a complete protein...hmmmm...I'll have to ask my surgeon when I go see him in a couple weeks. -

Where do my collagen peptide supplements fit into the "protein type" category? Per unflavored serving is 10g of protein. -

I love your replies to my posts, man! It's a relief to know the issue can subside after a while. That motto holds true for the keto world too....never trust a keto fart! I'm mostly fartless now though and have been for a while, but if I change my MCT products to a new brand or something, the gurgles can hit unexpectedly. Usually one Imodium will calm it down in about 30 min. Since you're so helpful, what's your take on pills...literally? How soon, if ever, can someone begin to take capsules or tablets? I take an anti-depressant daily and the tablet is about the size of a piece of couscous, very tiny. Also, I take electrolyte salts in capsule form to ward off kidney issues and muscle cramps from keto. They're your standard size capsule and I'm usually taking 3 at a time twice a day. I also have a liquid electrolye supplement that you can squirt into about anything, but you don't quite get the same dose as the capsules of salts plus it makes your drinks extra salty tasting. For future bariatric vitamins I'm looking into the Tespo thing for the all in one shot option, but what about everything else? -

It's definitely sad because 9 times out of 10 these people report abuse or neglect of some sort as a child. Sexual abuse, emotional, horrible things. Food becomes a coping mechanism then an addiction just as easily as someone getting hooked on opiods or whatever else. The gnarly part is everyone needs food to survive so you have 24/7 access to you what fuels your addiction. It's not like you have to meet a shady dude in a dark alley for a sack of quarter pounders and Snicker's bars. The even sadder part being the "friends" and family members that enable these folks with food addictions or they foster the others' addictions due to their own messed up issues and selfish agendas. That show is definitely real....mostly real sad. Positive side is there are plenty on the show who have successfully beat their addictions, removed the toxic people from their lives, bettered themselves and got healthier. The success rate is low, but it does exist. I just use the show as a reminder of how bad things can get, why they get that way, and how to avoid it -
Can I still eat Keto/LCHF after RNY or sleeve?
๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey folks...Iโm still in the very early stages of preparing for a possible RNY in a couple months and have tons of questions. First being...can I still keto? For the past year and half, Iโve been following a strict ketogenic/LCHF diet. No sugar, no fruit, grains, bread, very low carb. Mostly high fat dairy, fatty meats and other protein sources. Basically avoiding anything natural or unnatural that spikes blood sugar or insulin (Iโm not diabetic, thatโs just what keto is about) I had to train myself to get used to that and eating high fat everything, fat in my coffee, MCT oil and powder, electrolyte supplement pills, collagen peptide supplements, etc. Iโm pretty sure after RNY, keto will be a thing of the past and that kinda makes me sad. It has been a great way of eating for me, Iโve lost weight (just not enough) and I feel great on it and donโt want to abandon eating this way. Are there any post-op Ketonians here that can ease my mind? -

Has anyone been a long time user of collagen in your foods/drinks and notice it has helped prevent sagging skin and wrinkles once your weight loss got in gear? You can mix it in anything hot or cold plus thereโs usually about 10g of protein per serving. Only downside is the extra expense Iโm willing to endure again if it truly helps. Thoughts?

Collagen Peptides
๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ replied to ๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Very cool! I havenโt had surgery yet so Iโm looking for ideas to help lessen future hair loss and preserve skin elasticity. Iโve taken CP before as part of my keto diet, but I was going over on my protein macros too easily and decided to quit the CP to free up some room for actual food. I never gave it time to see any results from it so I think Iโm going to add it back just to get ahead of the game. ๐๐ผ -
