Dietician Stuff...help me not be a jerk...

Well, that's refreshing to know! I've always found myself having to fight to back up my way of eating so I guess I'm going into this too much on the defensive.

Β BIG NEWS! Several insurers are REMOVING supervised diet requirements

Sadly, I've confirmed that my insurance, Anthem Blue Cross (California), still requires dietician consults for 6 months. So I guess my Blue Cross plan is just not the same type of plan discussed in this article

    Tell Me Your Pre-op Timeline

I'm curious what steps everyone had to take from their first surgeon visit to approval/surgery date. Did you do certain testing, if so, when was it determined you had to do it? No need for major detail unless you feel like it. I'm thinking something like an easy to read timeline... Example: [date] 1st Surgeon Visit> [date] blood work , stress test, psych test, etc.> [date] insurance approval> [date] start pre-op/liver shrink diet> [date] Surgery date The reason I'm asking this is because #1 I'm marginally impatient, hate surprises and I'm trying to manage it. #2 My insurance policy that covers bariatric won't begin until 01/01/19 and I go to my first surgeon appointment this coming Monday 12/03. I'm just wondering what all I can squeeze in and get done before that 01/01/19 date. Thanks, folks! EDIT: My nutritionist person just emailed me and said the only thing I can do prior to my new insurance plan is stress test, EKG and nutrition. Everything else will have to be done closer to surgery date which is TBD.

    Insurance Finally Verified...have a question

Finally got my Anthem Blue Cross policy requirements confirmed. Standard 6 months of nutrition visits (should be done in May), psych evaluation in April and a $3500 out of pocket maximum which I have no idea what that exactly means. Google describes OOP max as the maximum amount you have to pay out of pocket (copays/deductibles/coinsurance) before everything is covered at 100%...which makes sense. Benefits lady has me confused and they won’t be back in the office until next week. In her email she made it sound like I have to pay all that before surgery. Anyone have any insight and/or tips on this? Do I need to start saving $$$? πŸ˜–

Drinking While Eating and Pouch Question

Sorry for the nOOb questions I know is probably explained well somewhere on here, but I want up to date feedback... #1 Why exactly can't you drink while eating? Not even a sip to wash something down? What if something gets stuck in your throat and you need to drink? What's the thing with straws? #2 If you no longer have your pyloric sphincter in place to keep food in your stomach/pouch, how in the world do you ever feel full? How does everything not just immediately go from esophagus to pouch to small intestine? How long does solid food stay in the pouch? Same with Liquids? EDIT: #3 How is food kept from backing up into the part of the intestine marked by #3 in this picture and moving back towards the old stomach?

    What's the Deal With Genepro?

OK, so I heard of the lawsuit thing, but they're still selling the product. Have they corrected the formulation? They boast 3x better absorption than traditional whey. There's apparently a "Gen2" formula. From all the reviews I read, it seems great.

Is your weight loss surgeon morbidly obese?

My surgeon just recently had bypass. He’s not a huge guy but he definitely has some weight on him before.

    Life without NSAIDS?

I should've known that answer LOL Well I have a problem...for nearly 2 years, every morning I take one Vivarin when my alarm goes off. It's 200mg of caffeine and my coffee replacement...and the only thing that makes getting out of bed bearable...oh man

    Pre-surgery appointments

Yep! Me! I've never not been fluffy in some form or fashion. The only thing I've ever wanted (for myself) is to be a "normal" size...to be able wear the cute stuff without looking embarrassing or gross. Finding new clothes effortlessly has never happened. Enjoying shopping....has never happened. Not sweating in all my cracks and crevices just walking around Target for 30min...never happened. I can't imagine a life without all fat people BS, so yeah, it seems like a dream. Part of me has doubts like I'll get the surgery and watch me be the only one it doesn't work on LOL This surgery is definitely not a cake walk (pardon the food reference) nor is it an easy way out of being overweight. We all know this here. This new life will require work. We're hiring someone to re-organize our guts and that's no minor thing. With that comes learning how to live again with our newly re-routed insides. It's like being born again in a way. You're not alone in how you feel...that's for sure! πŸ’“

Dumb question: What's the problem with caffeine?

    What's the Deal With Genepro?

Exactly, and this is why I'm trying to do all my research before surgery time comes. I don't want to be figuring this crap out after the fact. My Atkins Protein Plus 30g shakes are tasty, but I think they make me bloaty. I want to know what all is out there, what's trusted, what to stay away from and have a nice range of products to test when surgery time gets here. **not a fan of surprises LOL

    What's the Deal With Genepro?

Sound advice My surgeon (who I've only seen once) has Bariatric Advantage samples and stuff scattered throughout the office. I'm assuming when the time comes, that's what will be pushed upon me. Any thoughts on that brand?

After my surgery I'm looking forward to...............

I've never owned a dress as an adult or even teenager and I'm 38. Haven't been swimming and enjoyed it since I was a kid. Every day of my life I've been self-conscious in some form or fashion about my fat. I can't wait for the day when that's no longer an issue. And when I can feel pretty for once and believe it myself.

    Magic Mouthwash

Ummm, are you supposed to drink it? Everything I'm reading is about "swish, gargle, spit" https://www.woodlandhillspharmacy.com/compounds/dentistry/magic-mouthwash/

    Magic Mouthwash

I haven't, but I sure am curious to hear more about this! When I had strep throat last year, they gave me this liquid/gel lidocaine stuff to gargle. Wonder if it's similar...time for Google!

    Puking: Post-Op vs. Pre-Op

So...is it any different? Instead of explosive vomiting with a full, normal size stomach, is post-op puking a quieter, bubble up type situation into your mouth? Sorry for the gross topic, but I'm curious. I spend 9hr a day in a relatively open office type cubicle with folks around me that can hear me, but not see me. I'm hoping that if I get in a puking predicament, it's something that no one will necessarily be able tell unless I spit into the trashcan or something...

    Atkins Protein 30g + Fiber Shakes...thoughts?

Mind you I haven't had surgery yet so if these go against post-op rules or anything, I'm here to learn about it. My store was out of Premier Protein vanilla, but these were right next door on the shelf so I decided, heck, why not see if they suck or not. These shakes are VERY VERY tasty, folks. Equally as tasty as Premier (if you like Premier). By themselves and in my coffee, holy cow Both the vanilla and the chocolate. They claim to have 30g of protein in 11oz....now, the TYPE of protein might be the kicker. It's not whey protein isolate. **FYI** Fellow Keto Peeps (if there are any here): If you're eating strict ketogenic (i.e. Ketovangelist style), these shakes are NOT "keto legal" Dirty Ketonians, should be fine LCHF/Atkins - obviously

    Puking: Post-Op vs. Pre-Op

Yessss!!!! The bathroom is tiny with only 2 stalls that are enclosed, tiled floor to ceiling with huge heavy wood doors. Every sound resonates and every smell seeps under the main door into the hallway which happens to be directly across from the CEO’s office! πŸ˜‚ I cannot and have not pooped at work for the entire 4 years I’ve been there. If it’s urgent enough, I’ll leave and use the CVS down the street LOLOLOL

    Random Midnight Vomiting?

I've heard of Phenergan. They give it to you for morning sickness when you're preggo. I never had to take it but I heard it works well.
