summerset replied to cdriver422's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the reminder app that came with my iPhone. -

And in what way exactly does this detailed information about your daily carbohydrate intake refer to my post about the insulin index? Did you quote it by accident? -
Not going to be Popular...
summerset replied to GreenTealael's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This. It's not only the sweet and sugary stuff. People avoid all carbohydrates like the plague because of "the insulin spike" and yet ignore the fact that not only carbohydrates raise insulin levels. A look at the insulin index might be both interesting and eye opening. -
how often were you told to eat
summerset replied to nancydrew's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
We were told that it depends on personal needs. The standard recommendation was three meals and an afternoon snack and not to eat 2 hours before going to bed. However, when you're quite active you might be in need of a fifth and sixth meal. -
People don't need to provide anything on an internet board. They can make a claim and that's it. It's your choice if you believe them or not. Of course I prefer getting the source of the claim delivered for free as well, but I don't expect it and I certainly don't demand it. I've read articles about artificial sweeteners as well and decided that I don't want to ingest cyclamate or aspartame. I also don't want to follow the diet so many users on here seem to follow - because I think it's a disease promoting diet and that there's more to nutrition than "lean animal protein", "drink your water" and "take your vitamins and minerals". There it is - I have made a claim and I'm too lazy to search again for stuff I've read e. g. months ago in books, journals or in various single papers. Do I care if you believe me? TBH, not really. We're all grown ups here. If you're interested in the topic - do your own research. BTW, I would do my own research anyway because people tend to post only the sources that back up their claim (I'm not an exception to that of course) so screaming for "evidence" might be a more or less effective strategy to shut up your opponent in a discussion but it doesn't really serve your own decision making.

Looks kind of interesting.

So your dilemma is that on the one hand you want to overcome your fear of food but on the other hand you're using your fear of food as a strategy to control your weight and food intake?
-
Liked it, but I have to say: wrong audience. "Normal eating" is not very popular in the WLS community.
-
Wow, "bottled water" is the most popular/most sold cold beverage in Germany by far (according to statistics).
-
Just a quick question: after reading this thread I thought once again that users on here seem to associate "carbonation" automatically with either "soda" or "diet soda". I think that most users on here seem to be US Americans. I'm curious because in Germany bubbling water is a big thing. You can buy a really big variety of brands of bottled water and many brands come in "no carbonation", "medium carbonation" and "usual carbonation". Aren't US Americans simply not into carbonated water?

Hahahaha, that was a good one.

For all who need a kick up the butt!
summerset replied to Neversaynever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The only thing I definitely know about this issue is this: let me read something like this after a 24 h shift and I'm tempted to roll the author down a steep hill in a barrel just to shut him or her up. So as I said, depending on the circumstances one is in... (Anybody wants to guess now what my work day was like?) -
You simply have to test it. What's ok for the digestive system of one patient, might not be ok for the digestive system of another.

How do people gain weight after Sleeve?
summerset replied to Beachladee3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You regain because of the same reasons that caused the regain after every diet or so-called "lifestyle changes". Treat WLS like a (crash) diet and you will get the same long term results that you got with every other diet or "lifestyle change". Ask yourself: "What did I do wrong when it came to all these diets and lifestyle changes?" - and then don't make the same mistake this time. My mistake always was that I drove myself into burnout one way or the other. -
For all who need a kick up the butt!
summerset replied to Neversaynever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's just an impression of course but I have a feeling that this kind of pep-talk is very appealing to people who are currently "in the groove" with high motivation going on and who're doing great at the moment anyway. So it might not (only) depend on personality but it might also depend on the circumstances one is currently in. -
Proteinoholics unite. Doesn't change the fact that there is meat, meat, meat and cheese, cheese, cheese to be seen. I always cringe when people think a diet that high in animal protein is the super healthy thing to go to.

It's your usual "Oh-I-am-so-tough-and-YOU-can-be-oh-so-tough-too" standard internet pep talk that's quite popular in the whole dieting and fitness community. Some people love it, others hate it, I roll my eyes and sigh at it. -
Interesting. When I looked at the photos I saw meat, meat, meat and cheese, cheese, cheese. It seems to be highly depended on the person looking at the pictures what seems to be the dominant food group or macronutrient in there.

A gift now? Not a tool? (I personally think it's a surgical therapy that every obese person should be able to get if there are no contraindications but that opinion doesn't seem to be exactly en vogue.) -
So far not. However, in the end you can't compare them unless you had both. You have either MGB or RNY.

Why not fill out stats?
summerset replied to J San's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not really sure when I registered. In 2016 I think. Not really. After some time on the board I came to think the "stats" put too much focus on "weight" and "weight loss" as the one and only success of WLS. They doesn't tell if a person still feels miserable about food, weight, her-/himself, if the person still obsesses about food, weight, exercise etc. - maybe more so than before surgery. -

Sleeved? I never had a sleeve. -
Why not fill out stats?
summerset replied to J San's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had them filled out at first but chose later to go "lower on profile". I'm not quite sure what others can still see on my profile page though but I didn't update anything since a whole while. I only partly agree. "Stats" seem to create a kind of "hierarchy" and that's not really my cup of tea. -
