Did you keep loosing weight a year after the surgery?
summerset replied to Ninja-slash-nerd's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well, I lose weight every time I eat less calories than my body needs. I'm almost 19 years out of lap band and about 3.5 years out of MGB. There is no time limit when it comes to losing weight. -
Most of these so-called NSVs people report in the NSV thread bring up feelings of disgust in myself. Did you call him out on what he said about the "fat farm"?
-
Yes, I heard of it. Not sure what to think about it though since I'm no English native speaker and the slight nuances of a language are often difficult to get for a non-native speaker. If you're in doubt I would take the advice of the person having more experience with this issue. Personally I'm an advocate of the "people first" language. I absolutely abhor the use of expressions like "the obese", "a diabetic", "an alcoholic", "an addict" etc. and I can't understand why people would label themselves as such. Nobody would say e. g. that a person/a patient is "a lymphomic" when talking about a patient with a lymphoma. Sorry, I guess that was not very helpful.

Tired of the Holidays/Going to work/Constant food
summerset replied to momof3_angels's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Interestingly enough this food overkill makes me not want to eat a lot of the time. It's just like... too much. Plus a lot of the stuff I either don't like or can't have because of some intolerance. However, if there is something offered I both like and can tolerate I eat it. (Hmmmmm, nice dark chocolate today, the really good one.) 🤤 -
Not really. We were well behaved for quite a lot of posts considering the topic, lol.
-
It was on "obsession" at this time.
-
Sorry, the obsession with this number is sometimes almost unbearable. Same with calories, carbs, protein... Who gives a flying f**k if you're eating 800 or 808 cals a day? Or if your "carb intake" is 4 g above your limit? We're talking 16 freaking calories here! Six-teen. Not six-hundred. The obsession is real and it's not a healthy one. Obsessions are not healthy. That's why they're called obsessions.

I sometimes get the impression BMI of 24.9 or less is a WLS related fetish.
-
Insurance companies don't pay for it "to help you". They pay for it to lower their expenses in the long run when it comes to obesity related issues. People don't have to be a normal weight to cause less costs so some clerk at some insurance company couldn't care less if someone reaches a BMI of 30.2612 or 23.1524 when an EWL of maybe 50% only improves health quite a lot, therefore reducing expenses on medication or e. g. diabetes related complications, including not healing wounds and/or dialysis. Maybe the people outside of the WLS community have a more realistic view on what can be expected and what not than the patients themselves anyway. Don't you think insurance company clerks aren't aware of the possible outcomes (including the less favorable ones) numerous studies suggest?!

Not really a health food but not particularly evil as well, lol. If you like them, eat them. I like them to eat once in a while with peanut butter as well (have to try the raisin thing) or with other sweet spreads. I came to prefer the corn variation though. ETA: my husband likes them with ham and cheese. 🤮🤢

It's mostly the calorie restriction. The inner furnace doesn't like calorie restriction. You can even notice it while doing IF.
-
With glycogen goes water. It's normal. It's also normal when someone who usually restricts carbohydrates gains weight quickly when introducing them back.

Food Before and After Photos
summerset replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
"Real life eating". Liking this. The video is also a good one. Dr. Weiner's videos are usually always worth a few minutes of your time. "Your body is far more smarter than your doctor" - liking that as well. -
Or maybe the thinner spouse is not being able to accept that the fat spouse didn't (want to) change along with him/her. Is the person who had WLS willing to accept that the spouse doesn't want to go to more parties, doesn't want to go to the gym/a bike ride/a jog with them, doesn't want to eat the same food, doesn't want to "dress up for events", doesn't want to accommodate to all of the moods of a person losing weight all of a sudden? Yes, I'm sure there are controlling assholes and b*****s around but I somehow doubt that every marriage that broke because of WLS was that fucked up from the beginning. Maybe a lot of the time these two people simply aren't a good match anymore because they stopped sharing the same interests.
-
People don't like major changes forced on them (at least not if it means inconvenience for them and/or threatens them) - seriously, I sometimes think husbands and wives expect too much from their spouses.

Define "result", "long term" and "balance".

Picking a goal weight...Psychiatrist worried
summerset replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Do you think of this as a problem? Just curious. Sorry, if I'm too nosy. -
He might have become a kind of shady guy (or so I've heard) but he still has some damn good videos out there worth watching.
-
Major changes always put relationships to test, be it a romantic one or not. "Major changes" not only meaning weight loss. It can mean e. g. having kids, entering the work force or leaving the work force, a chronic illness etc. - I'll bet the people being in long term relationships know what I'm talking about.

Picking a goal weight...Psychiatrist worried
summerset replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Keep us updated, pease. WLS and eating disorders are a very touchy subject. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe it's just the definition of the term "eating disorder". A lot of people still seem to view only anorexia and bulimia as eating disorders (still including so called "professionals"), maybe binge eating disorder at a stretch but not chronic/compulsive overeating so suggesting that disordered eating runs rampant on WLS boards seems to be seen as outrageous somehow. I might be the lonesome loner with this opinion but I believe that nobody gets heavy enough to require WLS without disordered eating. People might not calling it "disordered eating" but rather refer to their "relationship with food" or to "bad habits" instead. Again, I might be offending quite a few people with this one: I see a lot of disordered eating and disordered thinking about food/weight/exercise on this and other WLS boards (I'm not excluding myself here) and probably the worst about this is that it's often seen as a both completely normal and desirable mindset to have. Sometimes this feels a little bit... creepy. Society's view on obesity might fuel this: if you were never above a normal weight and suffer from a restrictive eating disorder you're a sick human being in need of help. If you were obese once and got down to a normal weight by engaging in the same behaviors you're a success story. -
Picking a goal weight...Psychiatrist worried
summerset replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If you told this your psychiatrist it could very well be the red flag that caused her to worry. -
If in need of glucose, this is possible, yes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucogenic_amino_acid

Who wants to have one? Unfortunately there isn't a procedure that guarantees that there won't be no revisions. (That said, what about patients with a DS who develop serious acid reflux similar to the sleeve?) There also isn't a procedure that guarantees reaching and maintaining a svelte physique of BMI 20 for life either. I know BPD/DS often seems to be marketed as the procedure to go for permanent weight loss but the desired 100% EWL seems to be more or less of an exception as well, at least in prospective studies? Yes, I know... it's statistics. However, I wonder if these study patients are that different from the general surgery population. I highly doubt it.

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
summerset replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
No idea why these foods seem to slide for some. Rice makes me feel full really fast. -
When can I have some rice? Lol
summerset replied to dpendleton02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have lost only 80 lbs in 10 months? The perception of what is losing weight fast and losing weight slow is really screwed on this board. Or you would have already joined the I've-fallen-of-the-wagon-HEEEEEEEEELP!!!!! crowd already. Your BMI is already as low as 27. So you haven't reached your "goal" (I guess that's reaching this magical BMI of 24.9 and lower) after 10 months. So what? It will take you some weeks more? Big deal.
