Barrett's Esophagus and Gastric Bypass
summerset replied to TexanGal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So sorry you're still suffering from reflux this much. Did they offer you any other therapy option by now despite converting to RNY? May I ask why you're doing this test? I thought it was already clear that you have severe acidic reflux? -
February 26th will be the date...
summerset replied to summerset's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just noticed that tomorrow is 6th March. My first surgery will be exactly 19 years ago then. -
True. Most people on here are out less than two years.
-
How many times have I seen this written on an internet board? Countless times. 😕 Wishing you all the success you want though.
-
Yes, it definitely is.

Recovery is not as quickly this time. I have trouble sleeping, feel kind of restless but pretty beaten. Had some cramps a few hours ago that lasted half an hour or so. I have to test out what I can eat a few days out and what not. Protein drinks seem ok, the protein pudding might have been too heavy. Will try that again in a few days. I'm still scared of complications. I'll be glad when the first month or so will be over. -
The "elimination of carbs" was never suggested by my treatment team. They support vegetarianism but are very hesitant about veganism, at least early out. I kind of understand being hesitant about a 100% plant based diet early out. Later on, when one can eat enough food to meet all nutrient requirements it's not really a problem. However, from what I can tell from this board is that treatment teams in the US seem to follow an anti-carbohydrate and low-calorie approach at least in many, many cases. Not sure if you can find a center near you that handles things differently.

PLEASE HELP the skeptic in me. Doesn't starving = eventual weight gain??
summerset replied to MaybeMeow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a very optimistic thing to say. True, WLS is the best (if not the only) chance at the moment but that most people reach and maintain a healthy weight (which would mean 100% EWL)... the studies out there don't say so. At least I've never stumbled across a one that claimed that most patients reach and maintain a 100% EWL after WLS. Anyway, one doesn't need to reach a normal weight of getting tremendous health benefits. And what's a "healthy" weight... not sure if that is really the same as what fits the definition of "normal" weight these days. -
Anyone decide WLS was for them very quickly?
summerset replied to thewifehere's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I decided quickly but insurance didn't. -
Tracking leading to dis-ordered eating behavior?
summerset replied to Briswife15's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I couldn't and that's exactly why I stopped doing it long ago. Tracking lead me to obsession and interestingly enough my brain craved more food when I was tracking and I was also more prone to loss-of-control eating when I tracked. Other people experience the opposite. They do very good with writing down everything they eat. It's up to you if you stop tracking or not. -
Considering how many patients decide to hide their WLS people might simply don't know why one is loosing weight. A colleague was absent (i. e. on sick leave) for a while and then loses weight like crazy. Could be serious illness as well. I wouldn't want to make a compliment then.

The dieticians in my treatment team usually recommend some brands you can choose from (different price categories). They also provide a checklist what the supplement has to contain exactly if you choose to take a different brand. Once you know what amount of RDA you have to take daily (I bet you already know that requirements for the DS are different than for e. g. a sleeve) you could start by ordering samples. You can then check both taste and tolerance. Not everyone likes and tolerates the same products. You have to take that stuff daily, some more than one time and you don't want something in your supplement arsenal you don't like.

Food Before and After Photos

Pureed cooked red beet with soy creamer. Protein drink not pictured. 2 more weeks of this, lol. -
Does anyone here NOT obsess of carbs?
summerset replied to AnnieD78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not and never was. Potato soup and mashed potatoes are staple foods during the liquid phase. Everything else can be eaten after 4 weeks. Bread, pasta... The program emphasizes getting the amount of protein necessary depending on height of the patient, but they also warn about not eating enough eating vegetables and fruits because of e. g. constipation. -
Absolutely. I hated comments on weight gain and I hated comments on weight loss.
-
This. I personally think that it's rude to comment on someone's weight, regardless if they gained or lost. Unless they don't bring up the topic themselves I don't comment. The "the person has lost weight because of an illness" is something to take into consideration. You wouldn't want a compliment on your weight loss while battling a serious disease, would you?

summerset replied to summerset's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks a lot. 😘 As you can see I'm back in town. I'm feeling ok considering the type of surgery I got. My immediate recovery was not as speedy as before but I'm on the fifth post-op day today and was allowed home. One more of these awful antibiotic things (I had elevated inflammation parameters on Friday so had to take them) and then it's PPI for 6 months again. Major downsides: 3 weeks of liquids. No sports for 6 weeks, except some walking or light cycling. Oh well... -
3rd Revision- RNY,band over bypass, D—Switch
summerset replied to HamHockSkye's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
At the obesity help site there are quite a few people who've had the DS. Here are some as well but over at the afore mentioned website there are way more users who had the procedure. Maybe there is more information and/or help for you available there? -

I think the OP already had the DS? -
3rd Revision- RNY,band over bypass, D—Switch
summerset replied to HamHockSkye's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
There actually is a procedure called banded-bypass but I don't know how effective it is or if it is even done today. IIRC it is (or at least was) sometimes also done because of severe dumping before the overstitch came around. -

When (if ever) did you stop thinking of yourself as fat?
summerset replied to MaineDoc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmmmmm. Do you mean "thinking of yourself as a fat person", "expecting to see someone fat in the mirror" or "feeling fat"? I honestly can't say if there was a kind of "turning point" so to say for the first two things I mentioned. However, regarding the "feeling of fat" I have that quite often (I think this might be because of the loose skin I still have). Sometimes I think though that "feeling fat" is some sad kind of norm in our culture. -
Depends on so many things. How much you should be eating depends on what position sizes satisfy both mental and physical hunger. What you should be eating depends e. g. on your taste preferences, intolerances, allergies, meeting nutritional requirements, some common sense and (if that is important for you) ethical and/or environmental considerations. What some people trying to lose weight are doing is logging their food for a few days and then cutting the calories by e. g. 300 or 500. Others cut out meals without counting calories. There is more than one way to Rome and you'll have to find yours.

When Did You Stop Wearing "BIG" Clothes?
summerset replied to Machalo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me, too. LOL. 😂 I don't know how much more money I would've spent on clothes if I would be working in an office. Being able to simply draw a smaller size out of the closet or unimat machine makes things easier (and less expensive).
