  1. I hope they're right. Germany is freaking out atm.
  2. It gets harder by the day, my dear, though I know you're most likely right with what you're saying. I'm going back to work on Thursday. I work at the biggest hospital in the area. We already have COVID-9 patients, including critical ones. And every damn patient is getting a CT scan of the lung before going to ICU or IMC. My colleagues tell me people are already freaking out, face masks are limited to one per shift and here I am sitting at home being only 3 weeks post-op wondering if my immune system is still kind of compromised. Hopefully not. Oh, well... I guess if one catches it, one catches it. Wash hands, wear a mask when necessary and protection clothing and hope for the best. At least I'm not working on the ICU.
  3. Ummmmm, I am really scared that COVID-9 is more dangerous and deadly than people might think right now.

    Day 12 feeling really crappy

People are really all over the place with shopping. Got my hands on the last package of frozen spinach today. I also saw the first two people with gloves and face masks. Pharmacies have signs in their windows that they don't have face masks and disinfection agents anymore. Yet I've only seen two people with masks. What are people doing with these masks? Wearing them at home? *sigh* Anyway, I had a routine appointment at the gyno today. Drove back to my flat because I have to start working again on Thursday and I'm now messaging with my husband. He's working home office now.

    Day 12 feeling really crappy

14 days post-op is not really long out of surgery. The first days of work will most likely be exhausting. I worry a bit going back to work on Thursday with Corona around. Don't know if the hospital I'm working at has Corona patients already. However, since we're the biggest one in the area I bet we have.

    Day 12 feeling really crappy

@CammyC: I had my revision 26th February and I am convinced I am eating way more calories than you. I still don't feel that good, walks and grocery shopping are exhausting and I'm honestly not really expecting being able to jump around. We all should keep in mind that we had abdominal surgery and general anesthesia. It takes time, at least for most people. Tbh, I can't relate at all to the patients talking about "brimming with energy" shortly after surgery.

    Soft Food Suggestions

So you only had to do 2 weeks of liquids/purees as well - lucky you! What I liked to mix into savory soups was either natural peanut butter or canned tuna. I can advance on Wednesday. Coffee, here I come again!

    Why am I soooooo hungry??

Could be because you're still on full liquids (though I'm not really sure what you can eat when you say "full liquids"). However, your stomach not being touched this time might be an additional reason why you feel hungry.
  9. I'm starting to feel better. Walking with my husband and dog got easier during the last days but of course I'm still not on top. Tested my newly arrived air up bottle today with lemon scent. I think it's a really good thing for people who struggle with drinking plain, tasteless and non-carbonated water. However, it's not for the no-straws crowd. Interestingly enough straws aren't a topic of concern in my team. I heard about the air up bottle during my last hospital stay and ordered it. I'm pleasantly surprised though I have to get used at sucking at the bottle. I never was much of a straw guzzler.

    Why am I soooooo hungry??

You said you're revision? Sleeve to SIPS did you say? Were you hungry after your sleeve as well? Did they touch your sleeve this time? Sorry for these questions. Just asking because I'm a revision as well (MGB to RNY) and have a really hard time battling the cravings this time.
  11. Can't wait for my first real coffee after 3 weeks on Wednesday morning, lol.
  12. Try again after some weeks. Green tea, black tea, coffee (caffeinated or not)... give it 3 or 4 weeks before trying these.

    Diet

If it's not required by your team I wouldn't do that voluntarily. But that's me.
  14. I guess I'm being a bit silly with my wounds this time.

The slightest twinge and I think "OMG, something is not ok!!"

I press into the abdomen because I simply forgot I'm not supposed to and it's like "OMG, I'm going to get another hernia!! I'm sure something's not ok right now"

I cough or sneeze which still hurts the abdominal wall a bit and think "OMG, I'm going to get another hernia, something just broke inside!!

    *sigh*

I can't remember it being like this the last two times.

      CammyC

I have one particular incision that I feel I’ve pulled a few times. Eeek! That smarts when it happens. We’ll just have to be gentle with ourselves for a while.

    Pasta and rice

I didn't like them but it's all a matter of taste. Maybe it'll be your favorite.
  16. Was it really dumping you felt? I had something the few immediate days post-op a few times, including horrible back pain with it. The first soup I had caused it, the other time a protein drink. I was still in the hospital. The pain subsided a few minutes after I cold hear my intestines going to work. Drinking a few sips of tea helped tremendously to get things going again.

    Pasta and rice

Rice makes me feel full quite quick. Pasta I only eat edamame/mung bean pasta because I actually like it more than regular pasta. I sometimes seem to have problems with re-heated starches, i. e. a high content of resistance starches, but this seems to be inconsistent and only occasionally so I don't bother too much about it.

    Confused about diabetes after RNY

Metformin is not an insulin producing drug.
  19. I admit that I had similar thoughts years ago. On the one hand I thought that dumping could be an advantage, on the other hand I wasn't so sure if these particular thoughts are really healthy to have. Dumpings can be dangerous, depending on how severe they are and in what situation they occur. Don't wish for them. Your perspective on these things will most likely change once you're at a lower weight anyway.
  20. I'm on liquids/purees for 3 weeks this time instead of 4 weeks (surgeon was asked before my discharge and she obviously said 3 weeks would be enough) but I guess that the protein shakes will be my companion for quite a time anyway in addition. A friend of mine got SADI after lapland recently at a different hospital and was on liquids/purees only 2 weeks. Simply said: there is no standard. Same with the diet the teams are recommending. Not every nutritionist in every team recommends "no-carbs" or "no-carbs, low-fat". I never got to hear "no pasta, no bread, no potatoes, no grains". Caffeine is ok after 4 weeks, other teams say never again. They said no carbonation but other teams say no carbonation is rubbish when the patient can tolerate it as long as the beverages are low-cal. There are only two things where really seems to be an agreement on: "don't drink after a meal before 30 min are over" and a focus on protein in the early stages. In the end it's trial and error anyway. One of the nutritionists on the team said: "I can't tell you what to eat - it depends on what you can tolerate and feel comfortable with. I can recommend chicken and dairy. If dairy makes you sick and chicken makes you vomit - this recommendation is worth nothing in the end."
  21. A lot of it is the calorie restriction. Eat more, move more.
  22. No dumping. However, one has to keep in mind that dumping usually doesn't occur once you eat a gram of sugar. With the MGB, when I ate too much sugar at once I felt queasy. Late dumping only occurred when I also drank alcohol and ate too much sugar.

    Gerd & Sleeve

Indeed. Acid reflux is something to consider when deciding for the sleeve.

    Recovery time off...

I took off three weeks and this time I feel I really need the time. Starting to work again next Thursday. A two day week is nice to have for starters.
