    How is everyone holding up?

My husband works home office and my job is considered "essential" as well. Our friends and relatives all seem to either work in "essential" jobs as well or are in retirement already.

    exercise and hunger

More exercise -> higher energy expenditure -> more appetite. It's actually pretty normal.
  3. Post-op diet recommendations differ a lot, so speak to your treatment team. I was cleared after 4 weeks for all foods (this time only 3 weeks). I tolerate raw vegetables just fine.

14 months and NOT my goal

As long as it's temporary. How often do you weigh yourself? --- You could also try intermittent fasting to get weight loss going again. No guarantee here as well, of course.

14 months and NOT my goal

Don't worry it's just your muscles hoarding more glycogen plus the (normal) inflammation effect that occurs after weight training and that draws some additional fluid into them. Just make sure you're not training the same muscle groups two days in a row. It's important to give enough recovery time so the muscles can grow/repair.

14 months and NOT my goal

Hm, I'd get the weight training going again and mix up exercise a bit. What's also helping some people is playing around with macros a bit.

14 months and NOT my goal

Since you know how many calories you're eating in a day I guess you're tracking? How do you track? Volume or weight? What kind of exercise are you doing and how long does it last?
  8. Preach! Toilet paper still out of stock this morning! People also seemed to be more tensed today than yesterday. There were also more people at the grocery store this morning, though it wasn't really crowded. More like the usual amount of people you would expect at a store this size. I guess this is because of the weekend coming up. Or there are some news I haven't heard of so far. Yes, it stinks but it's just the way it is for us.
  9. Ah yes, at least the dogs are happy. Ours is, too. 😂 🐕

    Regret

That's why I asked how it was even possible for her to drink the required amount of contrast media because she wrote her doctors claimed everything was "clear and beautiful" and one should think that proper testing was done since they obviously came to the conclusion that everything was alright. Unfortunately she decided to lash out and I'm not in the mood for dealing with this kind of behavior. I'm here as a private person and patient after all, too.

Listen, you obviously don't like me. Fine, I can live with the fact that some random stranger on the internet doesn't like me. However, that you don't like me doesn't change the fact that your swallowing test was obviously not normal. Patients with a normal swallowing test don't throw up two sips of contrast media into the radiologist's face. So once you're done complaining about me you might want to take into consideration that your test wasn't "all clear and beautiful" and maybe you'd like to get a second opinion about what is still normal or not more than 3 months after surgery.

    Food Before and After Photos

That's interesting. We're on curfew as well. Here shops are allowed to extend their opening hours, including Sundays. (Stores are usually not open on Sundays in Germany, except for grocery stores in heavily frequented tourist regions during main season.) However, the stores I usually go to have opening hours as usual which mean anything from 8-20 or 6-midnight. People feel... kind of weird and tensed at my workplace. It's like waiting for the big fall out while everything is still quiet. I talked to a few colleagues while I was a patient myself for two days and on Saturday to the ones on duty when I was in briefly to let the surgeon take a look at my wound. I will be back to work on Monday. We're all kind of tensed. Face masks are already scarce and limited to one per shift and I heard a few nurses on the ward I was patient on talk about that someone stole disinfectant during night hours. One bottle got stolen from a dispenser. Other bottles were still in the dispensers but there was way less fluid in there than it should be. How low can people sink?

    Food Before and After Photos

Weird thing is, atm this feels like "hoarding" even though that's how I always do my shopping. I shop for groceries with longer shelf lives and things like kitchen towels etc. every two or three weeks, fruits and veg get delivered weekly but I sometimes don't order enough and have to buy some more. The only fresh food during the week I buy is usually bread. And lets face it: one doesn't want to go out unless necessary or when being sure the places are not crowded.

    Food Before and After Photos

I'm going to time my shopping with the late shifts I usually work either Monday or Thursday because the stores are quite empty in the morning. So I plan on stocking up for a few days, eating the more perishable vegetables and fruits first and the less perishable like peppers, carrots, apples etc. later. My fridge and freezer are full right now.

I guess there is a reason you chose to get snippy instead of simply answering my question. *shrug*

So you can drink the required amount of contrast media required for a sufficient swallowing test just fine but you regurgitate 3 sips of water?

    Newbie Here

I always wonder about the people writing about "brimming with energy" 3 weeks after WLS. Well, not this gal here... How much food the pouch can comfortably hold is depending on the patient (e. g. did they a pouch/sleeve-resizing or not, how much swelling is still around) and what you put into the pouch. I can eat way more than 0.5 cup. I'm 4 weeks out of revision from MGB to RNY. I'm always surprised how little other patients seem to be able to eat or drink. Totally normal. You're putting food weight into your system again. Revision weight loss is said to be much slower. You're also at a relatively low BMI of 32 - I wouldn't expect quicker weight loss.
  18. If you already researched the heck out of the web I'm sure you're well aware of what is a realistic expectation in regards to success and "failure" and complication rates. Mortality is rather low in the peri-operative period (usually 30 days) but that doesn't mean there is none. Make sure you choose a surgeon and treatment center with experience. That's your best bet. Fact is that there can be issues that only show several years later: osteopenia/osteoporosis, addiction to substances like alcohol or cigarettes etc., vitamin deficiency or anemia and the like. A lot of this is dependent on the patient's behavior, e. g. did the patient take the necessary amount of vitamins or not? In the end nobody really knows 100% what happens in this black box called "metabolism". We also don't know 100% how WLS interferes with this black box. Fact is that RNY-bypass is around since a whole while and that gastrectomies for other reasons (e. g. ulcers, cancer) are around even longer. There is no guarantee that you will reach and maintain a normal weight or reach and maintain a normal weight without too many struggles that make your life miserable. There is also no guarantee that you won't have medical issues down the road. However, when you'd ask people if they'd do it all again - many would say "YES!" without having to give it a second thought.

    It's going slow

Do the math and be patient. 1 kg of body fat contains about 7300 kcal. These apps. 7300 kcal must be burnt to get rid of 1 kg of body fat. Even if you wouldn't eat at all and your TDEE would be 2500 kcal you'd still need 3 days to burn 1 kg of body fat. No, they're not.

    Food Before and After Photos

Nah, seems like all of our friends and relatives are either working in jobs "relevant to the system" or working from home office or are in retirement anyway. Plus I'm not big on meal preparing anyway. The thought of the salad bar at the cafeteria at work being closed makes me want to throw a tantrum. The salad bar was always a big time saver.
  22. I think this can be a slippery slope. Too many people think of themselves as "failures" because they don't manage to reach and/or maintain a normal BMI but "only" a BMI of maybe 27 or 28 and are therefore not happy with what they've accomplished. They only focus on "these last 10 lbs" and make themselves miserable, sometimes almost completely ignoring (or so it seems) the fact that they've maybe lost over 100 lbs. They cry a river over the fact that they "gained 15 lbs back" despite having lost 150 lbs and now maintain a weight loss of 135 lbs, again feeling like failures. It makes me sad how people sometimes sabotage themselves this way. And yes, I believe that this is some kind of self-sabotage, too - they're self-sabotaging in regards to "being happy".
