No, it's dried persimmon. -
I can’t stop thinking about Food!
summerset replied to Nefertari's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone with almost no food intake thinks about food all the time. It's pretty normal. -

Coping with Stress During COVID-19: What Bariatric Patients Need to Know
summerset replied to PollyEster's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This article made me think about the possibility that my current stomach problems might be more due to stress than to anything else. There always seems to be this just-under-the-surface-anxiety. Doesn't matter if I'm at work, go shopping or being at home. -
Another part of it is that you're quite short so it's harder for you to create a calorie deficit so your weight loss is slower. Do you lose slow continuously or did weight loss come to a grinding stop for several weeks?
-
One doesn't know for sure of course because there is always a fraction of people that lose excess weight and maintain with non-surgical methods, but most likely not. The odds were against you big time with that much weight to lose.

I think he has some good videos out there. I don't agree with everything he says but I agree with several things he says in his videos. In this one I like his garden analogy. It made me ask myself the question though what I really think about "maintenance" or "maintenance mode" and fact seems to be that I never thought much about this. It just happened somehow. I never entered "maintenance" actively or something like that. However, what I wholeheartedly agree with is what he says about "staying skinny", beginning at about 8:30 min, 11:30 min or 13:30 min in the video. I don't think it's actually that hard and not this "daily struggle". It needs vigilance, yes, but show me a person beyond the age of 35 or 40 that doesn't need that vigilance. There is e. g. the occasional talk about food and weight and diets at work and it seems like all of my colleagues have to watch their intake, like not eating dessert everyday, not having French fries every other day or not buying this chocolate so it doesn't wait for you in the evening while watching TV or reading a book. The rare exceptions seem to be some people still in their 20s, usually men. Most people need to exert some kind of effort to maintain a normal weight once they reached a certain age, WLS or not, and that's that. In the end it's as hard as one thinks it is.

When did your hunger return? Your head hunger?
summerset replied to lilfluffernutter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I definitely don't have to set a reminder, lol. I also didn't develop new preferences after surgery. Of course preferences can change with time (think about what you liked or didn't like to eat as a child and what you like or don't like to eat now as an adult). You also crave what you usually eat. So up to a certain point you can train your taste buds though you might never like brussel sprouts or trout or whatever if you really hate the taste or texture of these particular foods right now. -

Physical hunger: it never really came back. My signals are quite subtle, maybe too subtle and I guess I override them regularly, especially when I have a lot of stress at work. Head hunger: don't count on head hunger or appetite going away, let alone staying away. Head hunger is normal, everyone experiences it, WLS or not, overweight or not, and you better learn how to cope with it as soon as possible. Can't kill the dragon? Learn to ride it. -
Had an awful early dumping today. Mean thing about this: it was the same food combo I ate yesterday without problems.
-
Insnt that the worst! Ive had it happen several times to the point of me throwing up (on homemade chili no less). I have absolutely no idea why either.
TMI: I was relieved at least that I could throw up at least. I was afraid that RNY would screw up that somewhat necessary process.
-
The pain is the worst. An additional nuisance is that my stomach feels sensitive for hours after the episode.

Give it a try. If you really like the cheese in the omelette you could also try upping the amount of spinach, not using cooking spray or eating something other non-fat with the meal (though I guess that's a problem only a few weeks out because of very limited space in the pouch).
-
Most likely the cheese.

The pound of cure book is also very good. If one has kindle unlimited it's a free read.

Yes, you ate too much fat in relation to the volume of food. I had it with MGB, now also have it after RNY. It's when I eat too much oil/fat in relation to food volume. Doesn't happen too often because overly heavy foods (usually the high fat/high protein stuff) don't sit well with me. I get a stomach ache then.

A year and a half post op
summerset replied to likehasjustbegun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me neither. The less weight you carry, the harder a calorie deficit is both on the body and on the mind. I never thought much about this until my recent post-op liquid phase. It was godawful this time and I had truckloads of cravings for just normal food. Sandwiches with cucumbers, rice with tofu, salat with tuna... Yes, the liquid phase wasn't exactly fun after my first revision and while I wasn't heavy by WLS standards I did carry some extra weight from the unfilled and failing lapband and the calorie deficit I was in for some time didn't feel as awful as it did this time. So when people who've regained some weight but are still only slightly overweight by BMI maybe should be careful when deciding on how aggressive their calorie deficit should be to lose the weight again. Yes, a less aggressive calorie deficit takes more time to lose the excess weight, but IMO "back to basics" 800 kcal a day or even less is not a very wise thing to do. -

I disagree. Up to a certain point people can train their stomachs to be full again on smaller portions. This doesn't have anything to do with WLS though. It's like training your body not to feel hungry in the morning or in the evening. The people doing IF with 16, 18, 20 hours fasting windows will most likely know what I'm talking about. -
I woke up feeling very bad about myself
summerset replied to VooLivre2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why would you want to go back to a deprivation-diet that will most likely induce bingeing in the near future? It's good and normal that you have that mental block when thinking about deprivation diets. Most likely it won't work so you're right to be afraid of the plan of going back to shakes and "the basics". It's a deprivation diet that will cause reaction-bingeing now that your body is capable of it so you have to be way smarter in your choices. Cutting out too many foods you like won't work in the long run for most of us. Unfortunately many, if not all of us, were fed the mantra "moderation won't work" a bit too often. Back in the days of "protein shakes and basics" we were all newly out of surgery which meant that appetite was reduced in many of us because of having been cut into out intestines and because of general anesthesia. Many foods we couldn't tolerate anyways, let alone big portions of it. But these immediate post-op day are simply gone. The situation has change and you have to take that into consideration when planning dietary changes. Also keep in mind that you were not able to stick to your former post-WLS diet so it makes more sense to try a different approach this time than to repeat what didn't work for you in the first run. -

Ah yes, had that happen only yesterday again, lol. Sometimes I forget that it will take some more time after revision before being able to get to my personal "bypass normal eating". I also have a bit of a stomach ache today. Woke up with it and it feels like I ate something yesterday that obviously didn't sit well though I'm not sure what it could be. Hopefully I will be able to tolerate the same foods with the RNY than I did with the MGB. I was doing fine both physically and mentally with the amounts and kinds of food I could eat. 😖 Maybe the changes you need to make aren't that big in the end? "I need to make big changes" - only thinking about having to make big (most likely unwanted and uncomfortable) changes would scare me away from wanting to do it and postponing it into a vague future that most likely won't happen anytime soon if ever. 😳 -

You're free to do so and at least you're putting what you've said into perspective by admitting to not being very far out of surgery. Maybe you will be able to answer this question a few years or maybe only some months down the road. I've read this or similar lines countless times. Like really countless times. And yet so many people turn to this bag of candy or Fritos. -

What exactly do you mean when you say "large portions"? That you can eat bigger portions that far out is completely normal. Could you give some examples? -

Didn't have thought so, given the fact that bypasses and sleeves have a fairly similar outcome regarding EWL. -

No, I meant the OP. 40 mg seems to be quite common. I'm supposed to take 40 mg a day for 6 months. -

Depending on at what weight someone is there might not be much weight loss at all. How much PPI are you taking?
