Finally two weeks off! Going on vacation this night!

Oatmeal with apple, raisins, the usual truckload of cinnamon, chia and white almond butter. Made it with water instead of soy milk (didn't want to open a 1 l container to throw most of it away before going on vacation this night). Taste is more or less the same (it tastes not the same every time anyway), but consistency is a bit different. It's better with soy milk. More creamy. -

I hate cooking. Always did. That's why I call microwaved rice with furikake a meal. -

Veg burger. Yeah, it looks a bit sad and stripped down without salad and pickled cucumber and I would've liked some more red onion on it but we're going on vacation tomorrow so I didn't want to buy any additional food for the weekend. Just using up already open packages and the rest of fruit and veg I have. I have some zucchini and fake-parmesan and I guess I'm going to eat this with rice tomorrow if the zucchini hasn't gone off but it should have kept in the fridge. -
What's up? Long time, no chat.... update of stupidity.

Same here and I paid for it with elevated parathormone. A calcium deficiency doesn't show in regular blood work. -
I started to introduce all foods 4 weeks after MGB and 3 weeks after revision to RNY. Rice was one of the first foods I tried and it was fine. However, dietitians vary. The ones in my treatment team are pretty lax about food choices as long as nutritional needs are met and the patient is satisfied with the results and that suits me just fine. They recommend to try stuff like rice, muesli and pasta etc. with caution as some patients experience stomach problems with rice and the like but in general they're ok with these foods (what people on here usually call "carbs"). A so-called "balanced diet" is recommended by them but I know that this is not everyone's cup of tea.

Revision completed

Hang in there! It will get better. My first night after revision was awful as well because the pain management sucked (that's the difference between ICU and IMC I guess...). However, after the drain was out the next day, things got better at once. -
How much weight loss is enough?
summerset replied to joei0005's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah, I'm a bit paranoid about osteopenia so I want to get a scan. I don't know yet which one. There is the scan that involves vertebrae only and then there is the type of scan that can measure fat mass as well. -

That reminds me that I wanted to schedule a DEXA scan for bone density - damn Corona... -

What labs were taken? Did they include e. g. parathormone? -
I know it's hard. "Finding balance" is not exactly a strength of mine.
-
Just asking because I have my intolerances as well. The RNY is not as forgiving as the MGB. It can be the food itself, the amount of food and how fast or slow I eat.
-
In what way does food make you sick? Stomach ache? Cramps? Being nauseous? And in what amounts?

Minimalistic. Rice with furikake, wasabi style. -
Revisions lose slower. This doesn't have to do anything with bypass. Hang in there. Find a sustainable way of eating and living and stick with it once you found it. Don't make a difference between "losing mode" and "maintenance mode". Let things level off instead of overhauling your diet again. Every diet change and change in your exercise routine is stressful, needs time and vigilance to get used to and carries the risk of not being able to stick with it or (when it comes to maintenance) that you might start gaining again.

I used CRON-O-Meter. Even the free version has plenty of stuff to offer. There is a desktop and a mobile version available. -

How much weight loss is enough?

Here is a free pdf-Version that's a bit older but it illustrates the concept and I think it applies to WLS patients, too, because there will be a point where you will start to ask yourself if additional weight loss is worth the effort you'd have to put into. https://obesitycanada.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Best-Weight-Book.pdf -

"Best weight" concept by Yoni Freedhoff. Worth a look. -
That is why I think you need to find a sustainable, i. e. rather pleasant lifestyle - when the boring part sets in and the thrill is gone, this dieting and exercise thing gets old really quick. This is exactly what I mean when I say "burn out"!
-
People gain because of a calorie surplus. How they're creating a calorie surplus, there is more than one reason. Exercising less than they're used to (injuries can happen any time), changing to a physically less demanding job, eating more food or eating more calorie dense food, getting older, having to take meds that promote weight gain etc. Some people simply engaged in a gung-ho lifestyle after surgery that was unsustainable in the first place. They burn out and start to eat more and all the beloved foods they restricted for so long. The usual gut reaction to this is to be even more stricter for some time with an even worse backlash. You need to find a lifestyle that you can keep up with even in times of personal crisis. This might be a very vague thing to say but this sustainable lifestyle is highly individual - you have to find your own way to manage your long term weight loss. Sure, you can look for tips & tricks but in the end it's more trial & error than anything else. You will be able to eat more with time before reaching your point of "maximal possible portion" so to say at maybe about 1.5 years after surgery. So the restriction is one effect that will wear off at least up to some point. I can only speak for myself but it's still way less than I could eat before WLS. Your metabolism will slow down up to a certain point. "Slowing down" in this case means that you need less energy to sustain a lighter body. There is less tissue that needs warmth, blood supply etc. So far not. But I don't take it as guaranteed that it will never change. I'm just hoping for the best so to say.

Rice with furikake spice mix. I guess one either loves it or hates it. -

Didn't eat the fruit salad - I hope it will last until tomorrow. Btw, it was the French Fries, lol. -

Dunno, I'm in junk food mode today: leftover Handi Rice. I have some more in my desk should there be any need for it but maybe I'm getting a sandwich roll at the cafeteria if they have any left when I get there during late shift. Monday is also French Fries day. So there are options for the junk food craver, lol. Bananas that have to go, strawberries and blueberries and some additional cashews in the container. In the mug like thing: soy milk in the bottom. Muesli and banana on top.
