More I-don't-want-to-bother-with-cooking vacation food: seitan snack balls with dips.

Does Food Still Bring You Joy? a newbie wants to know.

I still enjoy food. Mind you, I have some intolerances but there are substitutes available for many of these foods (e. g. dairy free ice cream). Prepare for some rough months when it comes to food and diet. You're going to have to find out what you'll be able to eat and what you'll be able to eat and still get your desired results. Don't count on your taste buds changing magically their preferences. For some people their preferences change permanently, for some they change only temporarily and some don't notice a difference at all. Sometimes I miss being able to eat like someone who didn't have WLS when it comes to portion sizes but that's only on special occasions that come around maybe a few times a year so it doesn't really bother me in the end.
  3. It's Pfingsten this weekend so today and tomorrow people will all be out in the nice weather. Not really sure if I should go on a bike ride today. There will be quite a few people out there and it's still Corona Time.

Yesterday we walked into the nearest town and at the tables outside the ice cream parlor were sitting loads of people. I guess without Corona there would've been way more people there but it seems like everyone is going crazy as soon as the sun comes out.

Also people are going to restaurants again. We definitely won't. We picked up the food and ate at home on Thursday.

Maybe I'm simply cleaning my bikes today, they need it after the last rides. 🙄

Now that's exactly the reason why I would never attempt this, lol. I can clearly remember doing peanut butter protein balls with dark chocolate coating. Roll the balls, put in fridge, melt chocolate, dip one side, put in fridge again, melt chocolate again, dip again, put in fridge again. *aaaargh*

Salad bars at supermarkets are still closed but one can find some decent pre-mixed salad bowls. Mix of endive, white cabbage, carrots, radicchio and red bell pepper according to the label, pimped it with mixed olives and red onion.

Ah yes, the bread rolls and the bread from this little shop are just awesome. Hubby and I shared a so-called "soccer roll", basically a lye roll that looks like it has a soccer ball print on it.

    Food Funeral

Yes, definitely. I don't know if I would deem it "unnecessary" now since I can eat most of the foods I like, just in smaller amounts. I do have some intolerances though, e. g. dairy or foods very high in fat with the combo of fat/protein being the hardest on my stomach. Even after such a long time I sometimes miss being able to eat large amounts of food. It's usually the case when there is some sponsored invitation to some fancy dinner and everyone is eating like there won't be any food available anymore tomorrow for a week or so. That comes around maybe two or three times a year though so I don't deem it a real problem. With the exception of intolerances that for sure can build up or were present even before surgery: when people are talking about "not being able to have this food" or "can't have this food" most of the time they mean that these foods aren't "allowed", are "forbidden or "off-limits" within the frame of their chosen diet. So in theory most likely you'll be able to have your favorite foods. Of course you can still choose not to eat them or to only eat them occasionally. People handle food, diet, exercise, "problem situations with food" very differently and with different mindsets behind their actions. In the end you'll have to find your own way and it doesn't matter what your coworkers, your mother, aunt Fanny or uncle Bob's best friend have to say about it.

Roll, topped with different spreads. Flat peach, apricots. Nice coffee.
  9. I love this slightly cold and tired feeling that sets in after a workout - sitting here with a hoodie. Stomach's obviously a bit of a prima donna again tonight. Have to be careful. This just stinks because I want to eat some more after this bike ride.

  10. Weather is warm and sunny today. I guess we'll take the dog for a long walk this afternoon. Both hubby and the dog are dozing right now though. :D

I can feel yesterday's bike ride in my legs, no pain but the muscles feel different. My Suunto watch spat out a 59 h recovery time and I was wtf?? it wasn't your afterwork tour around the block but it wasn't that hard after all...

  11. @ All you not-that-long-out-of-surgery-people: enjoy the situation of being able to eat what you want while being at a normal or near-normal BMI as long as it lasts. I for sure do. No pseudo-complaining. No humble-bragging. Carpe diem! @Bastian You might want to get help for that bile reflux. It's awful to have.

It took a few days for me. When I was discharged after 5 days I was at my pre-op weight again so most of the fluid was gone.

    Protein Shake Recommendations, Please

Protein shakes, puddings, chips or bars is something one has to try. Tastes vary big time. No idea what your dietician told you about protein shakes. We were told that the powders should contain 80% protein or more during the 4 weeks post-op phase, the rest is a matter of taste. Look into the body builder/sports nutrition online shops. These stores usually carry the biggest variety of protein powders and ready-to-drink shakes, both animal and plant based. They also usually sell these little single packages to try different flavors from one brand, e. g. you get 6 or 8 different flavors of whatever brand so you can try both texture and taste without having to spend a fortune on something that tastes vile in the end.

Glad that everything is alright! It takes some days to get rid of the fluids.

    Any bike suggestions?

I wonder if the OP has already got a bike. It's an almost three months old thread. We want pictures!

    Food Before and After Photos

So it was running cycling against the wind all the way to the bike shop with the occasional strong side wind that pressed me to the other side of the cycling lane. Luckily I started early enough to make my appointment at the bike shop. However, as sh*itty as that ride was (I almost needed 1.5 the time the navigation app calculated even though I rode with a rather high heart rate), the ride back was awesome since the wind calmed down and it was still sunny. Have some eye candy and meet the E-Sledge in galaxy black and French Fries from a local pub: ETA: portion sizes are insane in the boonies, lol. Plenty of leftovers to test the oven mode of our new microwave tomorrow.
  18. Is it strictly on the surface? How does the scar look? Inflamed or something? Does the skin around it feel a little numb or tingling to the touch? Maybe a slight burning sensation? It's most likely just peripheral nerves healing. However, it's not lege artis to come to a diagnosis via internet so calling the office was of course the right thing to do.

Ate all of it within an hour or so. I eat more and have more appetite depending on physical activity. When these foods are chewed well, the volume is also actually not that big. Strawberries are mostly water in the end. The bread slices are rather thin and small. Vacation is ok so far. Could be a little bit warmer and a tad more sunny. I have an appointment for bike shopping this afternoon (gotta make appointments because of Corona). Going there by bike. Straight way will be about 40 km in sum, depending on the weather I might choose a different/longer route on the way back though.

Damn, I'm craving fish! You know all of these yummy stuff you only get near the sea?! But so much is still closed because 'rona. Here's an example picture of what I mean: this is Matjesbrot. A picture I took during one of our vacations at the north sea. Some restaurants also put thin apple slices under the fish. Yes, you've read that right.

How's body weight training "doing as little as you can"? 🤔 I think there are truckloads of really challenging BWE you need lots of skills and strength for. (I guess this woman here can dream of being able to do a tiger bend push-up one day, lol).
