What's so wrong with rice? Hopefully you could enjoy your meal!

    Protein bars

Well, most likely you'll be able to eat them after surgery. If you want to eat them, nobody is going to stop you (I eat this stuff myself so no judgment here). However, the problem might be that you maybe won't tolerate the type of protein they use in their bars. You wouldn't be the first patient developing an intolerance to whey or soy. So stock up at your own risk. Worst thing that can happen though is that you have to give them away and you wasted your money. I guess I would go with this offer. I'm a hoarder and my flat always looks like I'm preparing for crisis.

    Leaky Gut?

It's just something to consider. Chronic Epstein-Barr virus infection is something that comes to my mind because of the fever and lymph nodes but med school was long ago.
  5. I never had problems with fluids. It varies from patient to patient. Surgeons were very pleased that I could manage fluid intake from the beginning on without problems. Sleeve patients seem to have a harder time with fluids first.

    Leaky Gut?

After such a long time doctors seem to be hesitant to view the RNY as the culprit. That doesn't mean that there aren't problems that occur years after surgery. What comes to my mind when talking about "leaky gut" and "gastric bypass" is SIBO. Did anyone look into this?

I never thought much about it tbh. When eating soup I always ate liquids first, then solids, even as a child. My curries are usually rather "dry". I don't like them with lots of liquids. Same with muesli or porridges.

If you're looking for "red curry like" you might want to use a bit of red curry paste instead of the sauce I used. And press your tofu for a while before using it. It will soak up the spices better. I usually don't bother with it but the taste is really more intense then.

I cooked it so the definite answer to your question is: no! 😂 - cube of mushroom broth dissolved in hot water - hot sauce to taste (I use about 0.5 tsp) - cubed plain tofu (just use your favourite brand) - coconut milk to taste Mix everything together except the coconut milk. Heat through in microwave, let sit for about half an hour so the spices can get into the tofu cubes a bit, heat up again. Add coconut milk. I often add some sliced mushrooms, seaweed or udon noodles but the amount of tofu was a lot already so I skipped that.

    Breads & the such

I hope you enjoyed the food? I think you two guys are perfect examples when it comes to the "never again" approach not working in most likely the majority of patients (come on, we all know the threads with the wagon or the track). Sooner or later many (most?) patients will try to eat what is considered very often "forbidden food" in the WLS community but seen as "normal food" within the rest of their environment (e. g. pizza or burgers, bread). And guess what: most of the patients will tolerate these foods just fine. The "I can't have this because for sure it will make me sick"-protection just took a jump out the window to suicide itself. Oops. These foods are tasty, easily available, highly palatable, not too expensive and it's just what most people around you eat at least occasionally and consider it a normal food to eat, regardless of them being overweight, underweight or of normal weight. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy these foods occasionally and in reasonable amounts instead of going into binge mode/loss-of-control-eating mode when it comes to these foods. Deprivation is a problem in the long run and WLS obviously doesn't fix the craving problem in the majority of cases, at least not long term.

Thought I'd add something: veg sushi leftovers. Tofu in broth and coconut milk.
  13. It depends. Some days I feel just, well... fat. Usually looking in the mirror helps this feeling. However, on some days I see myself as "too fat" or rather "not thin enough". Like hips are too wide in comparison to shoulders... Thighs and upper arms are just FAT... When I have these days it can help seeing my reflection in comparison to other people, e. g. in a glass door or window. It's easier to see yourself the size you are when you stand next to other people.
  14. When she stops eating when she feels full she is not eating mindlessly. On the contrary - she seems to be pretty mindful of what she's doing and that she is the one who didn't regain so far indicates that this strategy works for her.

    Revision completed

I never counted fat grams as well. However, I can remember a scrambled egg with a bit of cheese (I still ate dairy then) being one of these too-heavy foods I tried too soon after surgery and had to puke several times. So my association of egg + bacon = too much fat in one sitting. Same with this ricotta bake many people eat soon after surgery. I rarely feel physical hunger. Or maybe I'm just used to ignore the signals, no idea. I feel I eat more according to cravings than anything else but that's what I always did after WLS. I sometimes can feel this slight lightheadedness that tells me it's time to eat but usually it's more subtle like getting more and more fidgety.
  16. So it's possible to ignore users. Is it possible to ignore certain threads or whole forums?

    Bruised

The "bump" under the incision can be hematoma. It can also be e. g. a hernia (I had that). If you want to be sure, you need to get an ultrasound.

Unless the biscuit is of giant size I don't think it's a lot, especially not when you take your time and chew really well. I'm a bit surprised how much fat in meals some people can handle that soon after surgery but other than this I think many people on here eat minuscule amounts of food and/or calories. No wonder some of you say they feel like starving.
  19. Ok, where are the admins able to answer the question?

1 year post op- not at goal

There is for sure high selection bias on an internet board.
  21. Yes, on another board I have e. g. ignored the whole board where people make all this "looking for" or "selling" threads or threads where the best diaper brands for a 6 months old are discussed because it's clogging the new posts feed. Of course one can simply scroll by but one wants to have some luxury as well.
  22. Well, you would need an EGD and/or a swallow test.
  23. Going home again this afternoon. I guess we will be home at about midnight. Luckily I don't have to go to work until Tuesday. I hate going to work the days after one comes home from vacation.

hope you had a fab time! we still aren't allowed to go on holiday here. Still pretty locked down, not even allowed to go to your own holiday/weekend house!

  24. Did you have your pouch and anastomosis checked already?
  25. Lockdown tested our coping mechanisms to the max. If you resorted to emotional eating during lockdown (i. e. maybe boredom or anxiety), work on that. In the end you're going to have better coping mechanisms than before. You obviously were ok with how much and what you were eating before lockdown? If so, go back to what you've eaten before lockdown plus the same activity level. If you're lucky it should have some effect already. Don't hop on the dieting merry-go-round again. Worst thing you can do.
