I don't know what meds you took but 1000-1200 kcal is actually not much. Unless you're really short and tiny that's usually not even the BMR. There is really no standard advice on what or how much to eat or how much to exercise - it's a highly individual thing once the first few weeks are over. If possible, try to talk to a dietician worth her/his money. What to eat depends on personal preferences, intolerances (if there are some), availability and for many people also on environmental concerns and/or ethics/religion. How much to eat depends on how old you are, your gender, your activity level, do you accept starving yourself for a while because you want to lose the weight fast etc. When it comes to exercise it also depends on the individual. What do you like to do? How much time can/do you want to spend with exercise? What are you able to do? These are questions only you will be able to answer.

I think I never ate french toast. I guess it's just not a German thing. Bean fettucine, tomato sauce, soy meat crumbles, fennel, oyster mushrooms and cashewsan. -

Having a slight headache and a bit of a sore throat. The stuff tastes very much citrus. With water it's undrinkable but in yoghurt with some coconut protein and freeze dried raspberry or mango powder it's good. -

Some "immune boosting" (or so it is said) supplements in soy yoghurt. Tastes better than it looks, promised. -
Why Isn't Surgery More Common?

To be really authentic this needs to be completed with a picture or two of Kate Moss of course: Maybe BP needs a "thinspo" thread after all? -
Unfortunately he isn't the only one. Disordered eating and exercise habits run rampant in the WLS community. Even worse is that this is often highly encouraged within the peer group.

He can't answer because he was banned a while ago. However, my guess is that he'll discover gaining weight is still possible quite soon anyway.

Unfortunately WLS patients themselves contribute to keeping that stigma alive. -
Why Isn't Surgery More Common?
summerset replied to newyorklady20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How many surgeries are performed depends a lot on what insurance companies are covering or not. Depending on how severe obesity is patients still need to fight for their rights when it comes to proper treatment. In Germany a person with a BMI of 54 is more likely to get surgery fast than someone with a BMI of 41. They don't have to jump through all these silly hoops a lot of the time. Sometimes the fight to get surgery can take years and is not always successful. Surgery means thousands of Euros and medical tourism is not as popular in Europe as it is in the US (at least not yet). -
Err, we have COVID positive people in the department, me being one of them. I received a call from the lab 10 min before I planned leaving and they said that I had a "slightly positive test". Whatever that means. My first test on Tuesday was negative.
Anyway, 14 d of quarantine for me. So far a slightly sore throat that I only notice in the evening hours and a bit of a headache.
*sigh*

Deep fried I've had problems for a long time (think e. g. this battered broccoli or bananas), even before MGB or RNY. My stomach lining just says "No!" to it. The worst combination is high fat/protein. I could/can eat some mini-amounts of it combined with fat-free foods like e. g. rice but I'm not that fond of these foods. The only deep fried foods I eat are french fries or these potato wedges at the cafeteria at work. I usually stick to pan frying with coconut oil. I don't use generous amount but it's more than the minuscule drops of oil the past low-fat craze used to allow, lol. I never did deep frying at home. My mother used to have one of these gadgets you can deep fry in when I was a child. I don't know how you'd call them in English. I think see used it a few times and then never again because of the giant amounts of oil one needs. It really seems kind of wasteful. As for an "eating plan": we were never encouraged to follow a certain "plan" once the four weeks immediately post-op were over, though many patients follow or followed either a low-carb or low-fat or both low-carb/low-fat diet (I can't even imagine the horror of that last one...). Take your vitamins, get your protein and fluids in, also eat enough fiber. There were some amounts in ml provided that one should eat early out and how many meals one should have but in the end there was always said that "things need to be adapted accordingly". I never counted any calories, let alone grams of fat or carbohydrates. The thought of "tracking" alone makes me want to scream until today. Being that far out I've been following my own "plan" since like forever now anyway. I have an intolerance to dairy and I don't eat meat. I eat the occasional fish or egg but usually stick to plant based (and yes, I'm using way too much fake meats, lol). In general I'm a lazy cook. I hate shopping for food and preparing it, with the cleaning up afterwards being the worst, so my meals are usually simple, cooked in batches that provide three or four meals or are really quick cooking. I take use of already-prepped fruit cups and salad bowls. Usually I have a weekly delivery of fruit and vegetables and I tend to order vegetables than taste good to me either eaten raw or cooked. Btw, anyone have a recommendation for a cooking-idiot-approved pressure cooker? I'm quite happy with my fully-digital, cooking-idiot-approved rice cooker so I might start to get more adventurous after all, lol. -
You know, it can be done. The people who've regained a lot remind me of med students who've failed one of the "big exams". You're preparing for months for these exams and when you've failed you have to wait six months for the next round - having to study all over again with that fear inside your head that you might fail again. On top of this: you've got three tries, causing even more pressure and fear, sometimes panic attacks. After three tries you're out forever. Acknowledging these fears and having other students admitting "Yes, it must be hard as hell!" can be more comforting than anything else in such a situation.
-
That "negativity" you're talking about might actually be a helpful reality check. What's going on in the back of one's mind who've regained and is going to face "it all again"? Don't tell me that there isn't this nagging fear of "failing again". Do you know how many people who've regained might be feeling exactly like this? Sometimes reading it written down makes something click in your mind and even if it doesn't there might still be the feeling of "Yes, that's exactly how sh*tty and scary all of this feels. Finally someone understands!". People need to accept reality and work from there. And the reality is: losing regained weight is hard as f*ck from both a motivational and emotional point of view. There is no use in denying this. All this "you go girl", "tschakka" and "you're going to nail it" might be some nice cheering on but it's not going to help in the long run either. An "I can imagine how bad you must be feeling!" might be more helpful than all these standard motivation mantras. My post has nothing to do with "tough love". It has something to do with accepting things like they are. If it's dragging you down when reading it, maybe as yourself why it does that. You might think that my post was "negative" and that's ok of course but don't project your own feelings you have in reaction to my post onto others. That's not helpful at all for the OP or anyone else for that matter as well.

I used to do that with some ready-made crepe-like pancakes. Since they were not sweet to begin with one could prepare them also in a savory kind of way. Didn't make that in ages for lack of a decent non-dairy cheese substitute. -

Date candy in the glass. Dopamine rush and drooling in anticipation of tomorrow's dessert and all, lol. -
Just some random thoughts: - big problem with regain is that the feeling of "having to do it allover again" is a crippling feeling - having to endure all of this not-eating and not-eating favorites and whatnot while still/again being obese is a double whammy and - again - a crippling feeling - that big momentum and rush of being immediately post-op simply isn't there, plus see the two points above - "going back to basics" without having a plan how to proceed further from there is pointless - it didn't lead to lasting success the first time. Why should it lead to success now? - don't get me started on that motivation and commitment crap when it comes to "sticking to the plan this time no matter what" - people swore that every time they started a new diet lifestyle change before WLS - "try harder" is bull crap, "try smarter" instead Going to bed now. Tomorrow is a new day.

It's what the "intuitive eating" and "normal eating" crowd is preaching for like decades now: make a food a forbidden food and you're going to binge on it/crave it like crazy. Make it an allowed-food you can have whenever you want to and it loses its lure. -

I like them, too. However, they're not big and soft enough for a coconut filling. A medjool is big and creamy enough to wrap them around the coconut. -
Healthier, But Lonelier
summerset replied to kc892020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, some of them are. IMO people are "toxic" if they continue their (abusive) behavior after having been called out on it, especially after telling them repeatedly that their behavior is not ok the way it is. They know their behavior is not ok but they continue to behave this way. I don't want to have overly selfish, manipulative, passive-aggressive etc. acting people in my life. There are people with some really sh*tty personality traits out there I don't want to deal with voluntarily. ETA: However, I also hold the (maybe not very popular) opinion that not all WLS peeps change for the better after having lost weight. Sometimes it's not "the others" who're the problem, but the person who've lost weight.
