May 24 Surgery Day
summerset replied to LoveMyBypass's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Pup What do you mean with "started with a lower BMI"? Can you clarify? -- Follow-up was ok. They did a hemoglobin and ferritin test I requested (waiting for the results now) because I'm currently having a very, very, VERY heavy period after years of Cerazette (I'm scheduled for a Mirena now). I want to know if there is a problem because after years and years of PPI I'm not sure how much Iron my body has still stored. Never had a problem that indicated anemia but who knows? -
Beginners Guide to Running for the Obese
summerset replied to JamieLogical's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I don't know if somebody mentioned that book before (sorry, 7 pages of posts) but I found "Ready to Run" pretty helpful, especially when it comes to stuff like plantar fasciitis and mobility stuff. -

Question for veterans - hardest part for you?

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know only certain kinds of "hardest parts to deals with" are appreciated. -
Question for veterans - hardest part for you?

After so many years I still have problems with the fact that a lot of other people can eat so much more and stay thin. I want to scream UNFAIR, UNFAIR, UNFAIR!! -
Lies we told ourselves when we were fat
summerset replied to NikkiDoc's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I told myself: - I just need more willpower and I can get thin - the next diet will be it and then I will shed the fat and never regain it - I will only be a truly successful person when I'm thin - I'm a weak willed wimp who just needs to toughen up and then I can lose this weight Those are the lies I was told, told myself and unfortunately believed. -
Beg your pardon, but what exactly is "crappy" about e. g. red lentil pasta or bean pasta? And is real pasta really that "crappy"? I'm sorry, but just because some low carb evangelists damn down pasta or rice or bread down into hell doesn't mean it belongs there. And now before someone screams FOLLOW THE RULES AND LISTEN TO YOUR NUT AND SURGEON!!!!!11: Pasta is fine to eat if you can stomach it. If not, stay away. That's what my NUTs says! (and of course they're never wrong and we should always follow their rules ).

That's interesting. In the hospital where I got my surgery milk, yoghurt and quark are staples from the second post-op day on. As for Beans (or other legumes) they said not for the first four weeks, after that just fine. Raw vegetables not for the first four weeks, after that just fine. Same for coffee. Ok to drink after four weeks are over. And I'm also sure they would say "don't listen to others" as well. I already said it: not that much evidence based stuff out there, as it seems.

Oh, got new scales today (not only tests BF but also muscle mass, curious to try). I wonder if I have to correct the numbers now. Hopefully downwards... -

Have you tried Syntrax? Even my husband, who usually makes a face when tasting these Protein drinks liked a spoon full of Syntrax chocolate truffle in his latte. If it's not the taste that's putting you off but the actual fact that you get nausea after drinking them: try drinking less of them or blend it up with some berries and eat it with a spoon. I had a bad experience with Vega One vanilla mixed with some fruit (I think I drank it too fast or it was too sweet). Made me throw up. Interestingly enough the chocolate one was ok. -

Even if that's the truth after all: why shouldn't one choose the easier way? I discovered that it's quite easy to shut people up blabbering on about the "easy way": tell them that you'd either have to be a masochist or a dumbhead to choose the rocky road instead of the easier way. Usually shuts them up really quick. -

Yes, I know. *sigh* In the hospital they said the same. Everyone's different. Just makes me kind of anxious. -
Sleeve to Mini Bypass Revision
summerset replied to Bogart79's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had MGB because of severe volume reflux and a band that was beginning to erode into the stomach. So far the volume reflux seems to be gone. I can start weaning of the PPI in about two weeks. I will see if the heart burn is completely gone in a few weeks. -

Sometimes I'm kind of scared how much I can eat. When I read that some people who're months out can only eat like "oh, two spoons" or something "the size of a thumb" I wonder if I'm some kind of freak. Or they're kind of exaggerating... -
This. Seems to me that there is not that much evidence based stuff out there.

HELP: terrible pain after band removal
summerset replied to tohealth's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Had the same when my band was removed (especially the phantom band and this pain near the port wound). @@tohealth Did your surgeon do an ultrasound? I'd say this kind of pain is not normal. -

Bathroom works surprisingly well here. I feel some slight tummy ache in the mornings. Goes away when I drink or eat something. Will have to ask about this next week. -
FDA finally approves AspireAssist
summerset replied to JennyJennJen's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Actually I don't care much about if the responses are negative or not or what people will say who're against WLS in general. I was just a bit surprised about the reactions - they sound a lot like that what people say about WLS in general. I'm not sure what comments I expected. Maybe more curiosity and less jumping to conclusions and outcries of "this is so wrong". A lot of people consider getting most of your stomach removed and/or your inner plumbings rewired "just so wrong". Maybe this is something to remember when thinking about new procedures to help people getting rid of excess weight that we might consider weird/gross/wrong. I wonder if this procedure will be available widely in the near future. BTW, can you go swimming with it? I'm curious. -
FDA finally approves AspireAssist
summerset replied to JennyJennJen's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow, a lot of quite angry comments about the aspire device... Also some of these quite angry comments remind me of the comments people who are against WLS in general would make. - can continue to make bad food choices - easy way out - no learning effect - there will be evil complications with a 100% likelihood Sounds somewhat familiar. -
”Lift Weights to Lose Weight After Bariatric Surgery"
summerset replied to Melissa Elder's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
This has been known for a long time. I'm always surprised that weight lifting or strength training is not encouraged way more when it comes to weight loss after surgery. -
Does everyone but me have a nutritionist?
summerset replied to cseidman's topic in Food and Nutrition
I only have the NUTs working at the center I got surgery at. You can write e-mails or call and you can talk to them during follow-up appointments.
