Need to know what week post op did you start ab workouts please
summerset replied to VSG@50's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Indeed. I was quite surprised that at first I didn't seem to be able to get any real tension into the abdominal wall like the muscles have to learn to engage properly again. -

That's about what I was told though they said I could do the stuff that doesn't cause discomfort. However, I got surgery about 10 weeks ago and only since a few days there is really no discomfort when engaging the abs so that's pretty much in line with the 12 weeks. No heavy lifting and no sit-ups to prevent hernia where the incisions have been. -

How long did you notice the discomfort? It's still the same feeling I had when the gyno pulled at my uterus - just by far not as painful. -

That's good your sister is satisfied with the choice. I took a bit of magnesia and a pain pill and will sleep a little bit on the sofa. Just called in sick. -

*sigh* I'll just wait and see. Hubby says to be patient, it was like a "little surgery". I guess he's right. -
May 24 Surgery Day

I talked to a few women and they said the placement was not pleasant but after that they were happy with it - very weak periods if any. When taking Cerazette I had a bleeding maybe twice a year and it wasn't painful at all. That thing cost me 300 Euro (Mirena and placement) - hopefully this resolves today. Gyno said yesterday the body needs a bit of time to adjust to the foreign body in the uterus. I hope my uterus will accept it. The pain is not like "OMG, I want it out!" but it still is a pain. @ What do you use now? I thought about getting Implanon first but women seemed to be more satisfied with Mirena (after all 5 years of not bothering about this). -

Oh boy, got my Mirena yesterday afternoon and it was pore painful than I thought. That pull on the uterus... BLAH! I'm still having pain that feels like "I'm having my period and obviously diarrhea on top" and that I was very familiar with before I went on the desogestrel pill years and years ago (well I have my period, so...). Hopefully this resolves today. I'm going to call in sick today. *goes to the couch with a hot cherry pit filled pillow on belly" I obviously underestimated this Mirena thing a little bit. -

You mean they shit stir on purpose? Maybe. There are such people. However, maybe being bashed one time is just enough for them. Start one thread that gets out of control when you're relatively new and you don't want to post again that much. You go elsewhere or lurk only. For a long time user starting or participating in such a thread it might be the final straw that brakes the camel's back. -

@ I see what you mean regarding my second question. I still don't understand the "inconsistent advice" part. For me inconsistent advice would be e. g. one veteran (or newbie) says "it's fine to eat X after four weeks, my program allowed for it" while another veteran (or newbie) says "no, don't do it, my program didn't allow for it". That would be inconsistent advice for me. In this case obviously both are right (they did follow their program), yet the advice is inconsistent. -

@ I have to say I really don't get what you are aiming at with "inconsistent and conflicting advice" from both newbie and vets. Could you give an example, please? Or construct one if you don't want to take one out of the existing threads? With that do you mean that if someone gives advice and can back it up with e. g. a scientific paper it would be "right" advice? -

I have a feeling that this "advice thing" is becoming a pet peeve of mine. Who exactly decides what is "wrong" or "right" advice anyway? As far I can see there simply is a whole truckload of conflicting advice/rules out there because there is no real standard available on diet, pre-/post-op regimen etc. Simply compare the rules/advice your own surgical team gave you with any other member who got surgery at a different hospital and you will notice that at least some rules will contradict each other. So talking about "giving wrong advice" is IMO very difficult because in the end who exactly decides what is wrong and what is right? It doesn't fit our own view of the bariatric world so it must be wrong? Can't be that simple, or can it? -

I really seem to be reading the wrong threads. Where exactly happened something like this? -

Maybe that is the reason long term members don't hang around that much anymore? You described why I cut back on activity on many boards/mailing lists/newsgroups over many years - after a while it seems to be always the same stuff people talk about and most of the stuff that is talked about is off topic or diary-like threads. And it doesn't matter what the board is about, in the end there seem to be only a very few long-time members who stay. -

Now I'm interested in what naughty things you might be doing daily. -
MGB is also know as single-anastomosis gastric bypass. IIRC it was developed by Dr. Rutledge about 20 years ago. EWL is about the same as with RNY bypass.

This. IMO a lot of the "old, experienced ones" don't leave because this is such an awful place for them but because they don't feel the need to be here. Just guessing of course, but almost everything feels just old in the end and this includes hanging around online boards. -
What To Do Instead of Overeating

"write into your journal" "knit a scarf" "call a friend" (yes friend, try calling me on a work day at 11:30 pm to stop you from emotional eating) -
Definitely time for this. I hope you feel better soon.

I think it's important to talk about complications. Complications always have to be considered. Of course we all like to read about success stories but when reading some literature there must be quite a few patients with complications out there, be it short term or long term. My complication was severe volume reflux several years after having lap-band. Today I would never choose having the lap-band again but back then it was 2001.

Help. I can't stop eating
summerset replied to Debi287's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Is it physical hunger or really bad cravings? Did you already see your surgeon to check if the pouch and anastomosis are ok?
