Doesn't have that amount of protein as well. Protein cookies or brownies are very filling. I used to eat them in the beginning (got tired of them after a few weeks though). I don't buy into this "might as well eat"-mentality. Black and white. With protein cookies or brownies you eat only one - and that's it. With regular cookies... well, I suppose there might be room for a few others after the first? I also don't get the hype about quest bars. They taste like pure artificial sweetener to me. *YUCK*

Like feeling deprived and making up for it later? That stuff's a b***h. Conquer her by eating the food you want.

Bored With Weight Loss. Recipe for regain?
summerset replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
What are your current food choices and what are the foods you eat when you "don't watch it"? Do you see a way of incorporating the foods you obviously crave into your daily routine in a way that doesn't make you gain weight? -
This is the group for vets - it's just not very active. Start posting more in here and it will become more active. Setting up a special group (do you mean Facebook?) would drain even more vets.

Revision gastric bypass
summerset replied to ms.k_all_day's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The liquid phase varies. Some have to do a week, others two weeks. Some surgeons don't require the liquid phase at all. Other patients need to lose more weight before surgery and need to be on liquids several weeks. -
I dislike OH as well. A "view new posts" button would tremendously help. It's a pain in the butt to navigate that board. I think that's completely normal. Of course there was a lot to learn in the beginning but now you're at a point where you know your stuff. Maybe there isn't that much to learn now? What exactly do you miss? What's putting me off is the amount of zealots with black and white thinking that are still within the first year or half year of surgery. Like WLS is some kind of religion you converted to there is quite a bit of bigotry around. I get that itch to respond (and not always nicely) and then I hold my virtual tongue because people don't want to hear what I have to say about certain things anyway. Not worth the blood pressure raise. I totally get the "some veterans are rude and mean" though - it simply was that way a few months ago.

"Bad habits?" Some people would consider it a "bad habit" to cut out fruit, starchy vegetables and whole grains and subsisting on meat, eggs and cheeses. Others damn a banana down into deepest hell. If a dietary habit is bad or not depends on the dietary philosophy people are following. And there are plenty out there to follow.

Does your treatment team recommend a very low carb diet?

I got converted from band to MGB. Helped my volume reflux issues a good deal but I wasn't able to cut the PPI out completely. There was a 20% chance that I wouldn't be able to cut them out and unfortunately I'm in the 20% crowd. So it helped but not as much as I hoped it would.

Never Ending Comments About my Body

That's interesting. I think so many people look way older than before when I look at their pictures. -
Never Ending Comments About my Body
summerset replied to Kat410's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I recently changed jobs because of an additional education. People didn't know me before so it's very, very nice that there aren't any comments about my body or weight at all now. I'm just one of these people that blend into what others seem to be consider the "normal" or "unremarkable" crowd. -
Just ate a lot - scared
summerset replied to KaiserKid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, what happened is simply a common thing that is to expected when following a strict diet and has nothing to do with losing restriction or WLS. -
Pregnant almost 3 months out
summerset replied to Israh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely. It does happen even if women do use birth control (anyone not believing this for whatever reason: look up pearl index). She's not the first woman and won't be the last so her team should know how to deal with this to make sure mother and baby are getting healthy thourhg pregnancy. --- Regarding not getting pregnant after WLS for a while: So far I've read 2 years and 18 months on this thread. The hospital I got surgery at advises women to not get pregnant within the first year. In sum: another issue without a reliable guideline to follow. -
Hopefully not. The last thing this site needs are local bariatric heroes with a know-it-all-attitude that are all about people needing to "wear their big girl panties" when dealing out their so-called "tough love" and behave like crybabies themselves when someone dares to talk back in the same manner. However, if you're really missing them quite a few can be found at Obesity Help.

Shattering One of the Most Dangerous Weight Loss Surgery Fantasies
summerset replied to Dr. Colleen Long's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Maybe three weeks are enough to form new habits that are easy to form and as long as we actually like the new stuff we're doing or at least don't minding the stuff we're doing. It's a difference if you're trying to form the habit of cleaning your coffee cup in the morning instead of letting it sit around dirty or it you're trying to form the habit of going to the gym five days a week. One takes a minute, the other takes a giant amount of your leisure time. Also I don't think the really hard part is forming new habits (though it can be hard enough). IMO the really hard part is giving up the old habits we love. And I think this is where the real problem and challenge is: too many people are trying to replace an old habit they love with a new habit they hate. On top of it they're trying to convince themselves that they're loving the new habit the hate, fooling themselves. Robbing yourself of something you love to replace it with something you hate won't work in the long run. -
A lot of people maybe also left because they simply go on with life. I stopped posting on boards about WLS long ago and started again when I had my revision. Now I notice again that I'm not really interested anymore in posting a lot. One of the reasons is that I recently started another education so I have other things on my mind but I also notice that I don't have anything constructive to say about a lot of things. I can understand the need to make snarky comments about certain things (as so many of the vets that left did) - but I don't do it. It's a very destructive thing to do so I rather hold my virtual tongue. With time it's tiring to read about the same stuff and I feel that what I have to say about certain things is not what people want to hear.

Maybe this low carb approach really doesn't work in the long run? Of course it's always easier to blame the patient instead of the diet.

Notification that I have something in my cart?
summerset posted a topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
The website shows me a notification that I have something in my cart? Can't remember putting anything there and when I click on it I get to the store and there the cart is empty (as it should be). Weird glitch. -
I had the same problem with a massively dilated esophagus. Got the fill removed and it got better. Unfortunately I had to have a revision anyway because of ongoing reflux problems.

How are people losing 10lbs/month?!

The 5'3'' women or the 6'2'' guys? -
I didn't even have a pre-op diet. So I followed a pre-op diet to 0%. A lot is depending on the size of the liver and how much fat is in the omentum. Did you have an ultrasound?

As a newbie I'm asking "What kinda site is this?"
summerset replied to celticNgel's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Indeed I'm negative. In fact I feel that I can't be writing negative enough about this issue because we were talking about curing obesity and not of physical fitness goals.
