  1. I was sleeved on 5/10 at 229. Today at exactly 3 weeks post op I am at 212 so 17 lbs (most in the first two weeks with a stall that settled in over the last week). This has me ecstatic! Try not to compare to others and trust the process. As long as you follow your doctor's plan the weight should come off. Be prepared for weight loss to slow down and sometimes stall for days or weeks.

    no BM ok?

My doctor's protocol is to immediately start taking Miralax on the first day home from the hospital. He says you should be pooping every other day (3 days at most). If the Miralax didn't work I was instructed to use a glycerin suppository. Once I add back some veggies or fruit I should be able to drop the Miralax. I've been on a regular every two day schedule since day three post op.
  3. I took two weeks but could have gone back at one week if I had needed to. I had a textbook recovery. Very little pain. No complications. Getting in all protein and water by day 3 post op.

    May 9th-13th sleevers

Hi everyone! Today was my first day back at work. Phew! I am exhausted. It was tough trying to get back in the swing of things and also keep up with Water and Protein. I'm behind on water going into this evening but I should be able to meet my goal: 3 hours until bed, 24 oz to go, 8 oz per hour. I can do it! My day was a bit screwed up because my first task this morning was to sit in on a new hire interview. That put me off my morning routine and I ended up finally finishing lunch at 4:00pm (after grazing on my morning shake for hours and throwing off my whole day). I started soft foods as of last night....just a day early. I had a very small portion of refried Beans and cheese and it went down easy. Tonight's dinner experiment was tuna with some grated onion and a little mayo. Also delicious and so far, so good.

    Starting purées a day early

I've been eating a super thick Greek yogurt (Oikos triple zero) since day 2 so after talking to my husband I decided to give the refried beans a try. They were DELICIOUS! I did a 1/4 cup with an oz of melted shredded cheddar and it went down very smoothly and easily.
  7. I am two weeks post op as of tomorrow. My plan gives me permission to start soft foods beginning then. Do you think I could start tonight with some refried Beans? I either need some encouragement to stick it through one more day or permission from you all to start early. :-) My husband is making carnitas tacos for dinner and I'd love something other than a shake to enjoy with my family. (I'm mostly joking, but I guess I do wonder how bad it would be to start soft foods just a hair before my deadline.)
  8. I'm almost two weeks post op and have been doing well. Over the past three days I've noticed that whenever I drink a protein shake I'm feeling nauseous and extremely tired afterward. These don't seem like traditional lactose intolerance symptoms but I'm wondering if that could be the problem. I do have some almond milk and vegetarian protein powder I can switch to but I won't get as much "bang for my buck" in terms of protein. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm meeting or exceeding protein and water goals so I'm not dehydrated. The nausea does go away with Zofran. I don't have this problem with yogurt.

    Meds after surgery?

My surgeon referred me to my primary care physician to make any adjustments related to non-surgery related meds. You should check in with your regular doctor about dosage or other questions. It's important to be sure that the meds you are on are okay to be crushed or split if needed. For instance, you can't crush extended release versions of medications.
  10. I've been making it with milk to bump up the protein and improve the texture. (I find that thicker textures like yogurt and pudding go down easier for me.) That was per my NUTs original advice. I'm going to call her tomorrow to follow up.
  11. Yeah, except when I look at the sugar/lactose in milk when added with the Unjury it comes out to 16g and my NUT has said to stay under 14g. I suppose it's possibly a sugar issue. I might try almond milk just to switch things up despite the hit to total protein.
  12. I'm doing Unjury with 1% milk or premier protein as my primary protein drinks. I can't stomach sickly sweet things. Even the thought of Gatorade g2 turns me off. So isopure is not a good option for me.
  13. I'm a weigh everyday person. I prefer to see the overall trend and try not to let the ups and downs worry me. I read an article recently that suggested Weds is the best day for an official weigh in because it avoids any weekend bump that may be reflected on the scale on Monday mornings. Although not that relevant immediately post op, I filed that little factoid away for my maintenance phase.
  14. I think we sabotage because carb addiction is real. I think the biggest advantage of this tool we've been given (vsg) is a chance to break that addiction cycle. I'm almost 2 wks post op and I'm dealing with a lot of head hunger and cravings. I want nothing more than a big handful of pretzels or tortilla chips with salsa. I haven't even come close to trying anything like that and I'm going to use this tool and my willpower to the greatest extent possible. For me, one of my hardest presurgery addictions to tackle was Diet Coke. Previously, I would quit for a week or two and then get sucked back in to a daily habit. Once I made the decision to proceed with surgery I quit the DC and all carbonated beverages to avoid triggering myself. I've had similar results cutting back on sugar in the past but crunchy carbs are my downfall.

    Dizzy and Light headed

I complained to my doctor about feeling a little lightheaded one week post op. She said it is almost definitely dehydration....and I have been getting in my minimum Water requirements of 64 oz. She suggested bumping up by at least another 8-16 oz per day. The other possibility is if you are on BP meds they may need to be adjusted.
  16. How much walking are you all doing post-surgery? I am one week out and had my followup visit with the NP and NUT yesterday. I left feeling disappointed with my NUT visit. I'm someone who thrives on positive reinforcement but my conversation with her left me feeling like she wanted me to be doing more. I've been meeting my minimum Protein and Water goals since two days post surgery (usually exceeding my goals most days) and I was constantly walking the halls while I was in the hospital. Since I've been home I've varied between 20-60 minutes of total exercise and 1-3 miles per day. I thought this was excellent but she seemed "judge-y". Help me feel better about my efforts. :-)

    May 9th-13th sleevers

I was sleeved on May 10. Doing well so far. Had my one week followup with NP and NUT yesterday. I've been able to meet my Protein and Water goals but NP suggested increasing water by 16 oz since I seemed dehydrated. (I had been meeting my 64 oz of water with 48 water and including 2 protein shakes toward the total. This is allowed by my plan but they suggested trying for more water this week.) My typical day is as follows: unjury with 8 oz 1% milk 29g protein Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt 15g Premier Protein 30g Snacks: SF Jello pudding, SF jello, SF Popsicles. I've been lucky to feel very little restriction or pain. I'm dealing with some head hunger and cravings but generally making it through pretty well. Edited to add: HW 254, SW 242, surgery day 229, CW 221

    Liquid Diet!

It really depends on your doctor's plan. I'm 4 days post surgery as well and my "full liquid" diet allows Greek yogurt, pudding and cream of wheat. The thicker textures of those foods is more satisfying than just drinking protein shakes. The Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt brand is quite thick and has 15g of protein. I made cream of wheat today with a little Splenda and cinnamon and it was delicious. Like a slightly thinner version of oatmeal. You can also mix protein powders in with cream of wheat for more protein and different flavors.

    Swallow or crush pills?

Yes, please check with your doctor or pharmacist. The type of pill really matters. In terms of general rules, I was told I could swallow anything that was smaller than an M&M. For me that means I only need to cut my metformin pills (they are huge...hopefully I'll be off them soon anyway) and I need to empty the capsule of Prilosec and take with a spoonful of pudding or yogurt. The pharm did need to change my metformin prescription from the extended release version so I could split them.
  20. I was sleeved 2 days ago on 5/10. I came home yesterday and have generally been doing pretty well. I'm halfway to my protein and water goals so far today. My only complaints are this EXTREMELY noisy tummy and a headache. Im assuming the tummy noise is mostly gas and I'm relieved to not be in any pain but any idea of when I can expect things to settle down? How about the headache? Did anyone else have that?

    Rumbly tummy and headache

After two days of noting when the headaches come and go, I'm pretty sure it's a side effect of the oxycodone. I'm going to try weaning off those for both my bowels and my head's sake. I'm pretty sure I could start a sound effects studio with the noises generated by my belly these days. :-)
  22. My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, May 10. I started this process at the end of January so all in all it hasn't been too long a wait. I'm excited but also very nervous and scared. I have a 7 year old son and with Mother's Day yesterday I think I'm feeling extra emotional. My son will be sleeping over a friends house tonight since surgery will likely be scheduled at 5:30 am arrival in the morning. I can't help but worry about dying or complications and wonder if he's going to lose his mother. I get that complications are rare and I'm on the lower end of BMI (38 with co morb), but my rational mind is on break at the moment and fear and anxiety seem to be trying to take control. I am working today and my son has school so I will have distractions to take my mind off of everything. Hoping for some peace and calm today, my last day before surgery. (I can see that there are several others in this same boat by reading through the threads. Thanks to everyone for being a source of support.)
  23. Which do you prefer post-surgery? I'm still pre surgery going in on May 10. I've been test driving some different Protein powders and while I don't want to overly stock up in case my tastes change I know I need to have something on hand. I tried unjury today in some chicken broth and found it to be totally fine. It made the broth a little creamy tasting which took some getting used to but I definitely didn't find it to be offensive. However, there was a lot of powder to stir into my two cups of broth (I was using a pre measured packet). The GENEPRO is appealing because of the smaller quantity and the high amount of protein. If you've tried both can you tell me how they compare in terms of taste?

I'm looking for suggestions on unflavored to mix with broth or juice. Thanks.

    Unjury vs Genepro?

Thanks all. I'm mostly concerned about which has the better taste, or actually which is the most tasteless. My NUT recommends either and several people from my program have used GENEPRO with good bloodwork results. I really like the unjury chocolate flavors. They seem to have the thin consistency that I prefer. I was mostly put off by the quantity of the unflavored Unjury that I needed to blend in.
