Hi everyone I'm new to these forums and about to start a six week (minus 3 days) pre-op Optifast diet on 1st February, my op is booked in for 11th March. My surgeon has allowed the late start so I could go to my friends birthday lunch on 31st January. The Dietician has said I can have 4 optifast products and 2 cups non starchy vegetables daily and at least 2 litres Water, hoping I don't have too many problems. I have been hanging around these forums for a while but only registered a few days ago. Good luck to all my fellow MGBypassers who are either starting out on their journey like me or have been steadily progressing towards or reaching their goal. Marie

Hi Lizzie Thank you for your support. I got home yesterday (Tues) so in hospital for 5 days total, longer than I first thought. Wasn't up to replying earlier sorry, I am just so tired. Everything went well, weighed myself this morning and have lost 2.9 kgs since Mon 7th. How are you going Lizzie? Are you starting to move that weight now and how about any NSV's. What exciting puréed meals have you made. When did you have to start counting Protein my doc told me not to worry about that at this time, I do see him again next Tuesday though so maybe he will run through it then along with Vitamins etc. Anyway that's me all done - exhausted again, will speak again soon. Take care Marie Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

HI Lizzie, I am glad that you are feeling a little better and good news that you are able to tolerate the Optifast shakes now. I hope everything will go smoothly for you from now on. Spaghetti bolognese without spaghetti sounds devine and is what I have already chosen for my first puree meal. I deliberately didn't mention my weight because I was trying to focus on you, as you seemed a little upset. I have lost a total of 20.2kg, 9.1 of that I lost prior to starting the pre-op. I have lost most of the weight from my stomach but have also lost some from other places too. It will be my turn in a week and I am now having doubts and feeling very nervous. Today I paid the surgeon and the excess for the hospital and bought some nice new slippers, I would have been embarrassed if I wore my old ones. I am going to spend the weekend cooking and freezing meals for post-op and then all that is left is waiting and 1 more week of optifast. Take care and keep enjoying those heavenly dinners Marie

Adelaide2016, welcome to the forums. Always good to see other Adelaidians on here. Which surgeon are you going with? Marie

Hi Lizzie, so glad you haven't had any setbacks. Don't worry about the numbers on the scale just work on getting your Water and Protein in, then things will start moving in the right direction. I actually think 3 kgs is great, when was the last time you lost that much in 2 weeks. Keep following your surgeons and dieticians plan and you will do well. This weight loss thing isn't a race, in the end most people lose their excess weight and I'm sure you and I will be successful too. When we weigh ourselves in kgs it always sounds less than pounds, so you have lost 6.61 pounds - sounds much better, and would probably be an average weight loss on these forums. Me, I'm getting a bit nervous now but everything is fine, just getting sick of Optifast and non starchy vegies. Please take care of yourself, will keep in touch. Marie

INTRODUCTIONS - Please tell us all about you & your MGB / OAGB / OmegaLoop Journey

Hi eclecticwingtips, (can't work out how to quote) Dr D'Onofrio originally told me 2 Optifast also but didn't explain the rest of the plan. On my last visit I had to sign the consent form and was given both my pre-op and post-op diet plans and other paperwork. You probably will be given a date when you see him again, I was given mine on my second appointment. Dr D'O initially was pushing me towards the sleeve but I told him I didn't want to take the chance of my reflux getting worse, he is repairing that at the same time. Good luck with everything -

Hi I am also from Adelaide and having the MGB done on 11th March with Dr G D'onofrio at Calvary North Adelaide. I'm currently on week four (last day) of a six week pre-op diet. Allowed 3 Optifast and up to 2 cups non starchy vegetables. The diet itself isn't that hard but seems to be going forever. I have lost 17.8 kgs at this stage, 9.1 prior to the pre-op diet and the rest since. Hope everyone is well Marie -
Hi my name is Marie and I'm currently on week four of a six week pre-op diet. I'm due to have a mini gastric bypass on 11th March. Hoping I can join this conversation as it is the only active Australian forum. justright66 I have also looked for sugar free popsicles but unfortunately cannot find them either. I live in Adelaide

Hi Lizzie, sorry I haven't replied sooner but life gets in the way sometimes. Hoping you are keeping well and managing to get enough Protein and fluids in. Glad everything went well with the op, I guess you will be nearing the end of the fluids stage soon and losing heaps of weight. Today marks exactly two weeks before my surgery on the 11th and getting a little bit nervous. I'm finding the pre-op diet reasonably easy but will be glad when it is finished as it seems to be going on forever. Marie

Hi Lizzie Good luck for your surgery on the 16th, hoping everything goes beautifully. Marie
-
Congratulations everyone on your weight loss so far, I hope to be as successful once I have my surgery. Currently on the pre-op diet day 9 and holding up ok.
-
Hi Lizzie Yep! Most definitely worth it Marie
-
Hi Lizzie Yeah I'm not finding it too bad either. I am feeling hungry at times but is easy to ignore, although yesterday and today have been really good, the headaches seem to have gone as well. The Optifast chocolate bars are horrible and the taste is quite unpalatable, I take it the taste of your Protein shakes wasn't that bad. Take care of yourself and hoping we both get through the rest of the pre-op with no fuss. Marie
-
Hi Lizzie Good luck to you as well and hoping you like the taste of the Protein shakes. I have had the Optifast shakes before and while not my preferred drink of choice, I found them to be more enjoyable the longer I was on them. I'm a bit jealous you only have another two weeks wait for your surgery. Hope everything goes ok with the shakes and lets keep each other informed on our progress Marie

Thank you, I'm ready to start my diet tomorrow after having a lovely lunch with my friend. She is the only person other than my husband who I have told, other friends think I am going in for a reflux repair which I am having done at the same time as the MGB.

Hi everybody I am also new here. I start my six week(minus 3 days) pre-op diet on 1st February and I turned 60 earlier this week. I will be having MGB on 11th March. Excited by what the future holds but a little bit anxious as well.
