Elevated Liver Enzymes - 1 year 4 months post op
lynmar posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I am doing some of my own research on this and will also go back to my doctors with the same questions, but wanted to throw it out here as well. I have always had slightly elevated liver enzymes, but the last 4-6 months, they keep elevating every time they do labs. I am now seeing a hepatologist and she is testing liver enzymes every 2 weeks to keep a close eye on them and may end up doing a liver biopsy if this continues. Has anyone else here experienced this over a year after surgery? I don't even know if it has anything to do with surgery as I also have some autoimmune issues going on. Could it have something to do with increased protein intake after surgery? I use a lot of protein shakes and mixes as I do not eat meat and try to make sure I am supplementing my diet with enough protein, but don't use more than has been recommended by my doctor, so I'm not overdosing on proteins. Does using soy or whey protein make a difference? Any input from any of your experience would sure be appreciated. -

Good luck on your ultrasound today....I had one done and it looked fine. Please keep in touch and let us know how it went or if you get any answers and I will do the same. -
I can understand your feelings.....but as long as you let the staff know your situation, I'm sure they will do all they can to help if you do experience pain by suggesting non narcotic pain relief. Good luck to you as it is so worth it. You go girl! You will do great!

So happy to hear your good news! Sending good vibes for continued speedy healing and you are right....it is so worth it! Keep us posted! -
Hi all - My surgery was on July 25th and I've been doing great up until the last 2 or so weeks. I started feeling nauseated when eating, drinking and in between meals/snacks and at first I thought I was taking too big of bites or drinking too fast, so I tried to slow it down. It seemed better for just a bit but came back quickly. I then thought I caught a stomach bug of some sort but its been about 2 weeks now and only getting worse. I have also tried taking gas-x and again I thought it worked yesterday but has come back worse today. I feel sick when I eat anything or even drink water and also at night when I am sleeping, so I know I'm not getting enough fluids or protein . I've had an emotional month as well with my moms declining health and passing a few weeks ago, so maybe I just have my stomach all in knots. I don't know what it is, so I need to stop guessing. I have just emailed the Dr to ask for help, but wondered if any of you have experienced this or have any ideas on what this could be.

Wow.....July 25th was a popular day for surgeries! Keep up the good work everyone....we should all be so proud of the weight loss that each of us has had and the decision we made to become healthier!

Hi all....I had my surgery on the 25th of July and am doing really good! I healed nicely and went back to work on light duty after 2 and a half weeks. My surgeon and other docs are happy with my healing and progress so far. It's difficult for me to remember to eat slow and with small bites and to sip not gulp my water/drinks, but I'm working on it! How are the rest of you doing?

You can do it......On your mark.....get set.......goooooooooooooooooo! Congratulations!

Here I am....awake at 12:35.....have to leave in about 3 hours and surgery is scheduled for 7:30am. I am excited, anxious, nervous.....a whole smorgasbord of emotions...but mostly I am glad that my long wait is coming to an end and I can start working on the "new me".

Congratulations to you! You should be very proud of yourself! I hope to be where you are one day.....my surgery is in 2 weeks so this is just the beginning for me!

My surgery is schedules for July 25th! It's almost here! I am required to be on a low carb/high protein diet for these 2 weeks before surgery. The primary reason for this is to shrink the liver some before surgery. Good luck to all here....Let's do this!!

Sorry if this question is already answered/explained somewhere, but I couldn't find it. What does the Members Total Reputation number mean under your user name?

I was on this forum quite a while ago asking for help with insurance issues, etc. For 3 years, my insurance denied me, even though I appealed with a ton of paperwork from several doctors and made numerous phone calls, wrote letters and on and on. My place of employment finally switched to a different insurance company in 2017 and I had my first visit with the surgeon the beginning of February. I had already been to other doctors, been to nutritionists, taken weight loss meds, and done so many programs, so I had already met many of the pre-requisites. After jumping through some more hoops, having some tests done, seeing another nutritionist, I was finally approved for surgery and it is now set for July 25th! I am so very happy to start my journey, my only regret is that it took so long to get here. But, I'm here now and wanted to share my good news! I'm a little nervous about it as I've not had many surgeries in my life, but I know Ill get through this and my life is going to change for the better in so many ways!
