Help: 1st Family Gathering Post Op
MayMarie replied to MayMarie's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Ambrosia is a great dessert idea and I know my family likes it. They won't know it's sugar free cool whip in there -
Can you see a difference ?

Sometimes people come off differently than they intended especially via typed communication but there's some definite 'tude being thrown all over this post. -

Your posts might suggest otherwise... -
OKCupid can be good if you're in the younger crowd (popular with the 20s/30s) and weed through the weirdos (which has been my experience pretty much every where). I met my boyfriend on OKCupid. We've been together 3.5 years A lot of the older men that messaged me there definitely gave off the "already married and trying to be a creep" vibe.

I'm really sorry to hear what is going on. It sounds like he has some real insecurities about the relationship. A lot of people go to marriage counseling throughout this process because of all the changes. You could talk to him and assure him your love is unconditional, and that you need him by your side. See if he is willing to work on it together.

I'm a nurse and my surgeon recommended 6 weeks off for me

We have an extensive board game collection. If you like Pandemic at all I would highly recommend Pandemic Legacy. The game evolves and permanently changes as you play a minimum of 12 games to complete the scenario. And the best part is it's 2 player! We always try to find games we can play together but many just aren't as good with 2 players.

Relying on feeling full or amount you can eat versus portions
MayMarie replied to Sharon1964's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just another perspective: I'm only 2 weeks out. I do not feel hungry. I essentially do not feel anything related to my stomach. I DO measure out my portions but sometimes I cannot eat that entire portion. I do not feel full or stuffed even when I cannot continue eating. My "hiccup" identifier is the only thing that signifies this to me at this point. I think that may be what some people are referring to when they are trying to figure out when they're full. Not because they're looking to be full or looking to eat more. If I ate my entire portion id probably be in serious trouble sometimes. -
OK Ladies, kinda embarrasing question for you all
MayMarie replied to Adina's_Journey's topic in The Gals' Room
Very interested in knowing your surgical teams reason for being so adamant about a shaved vagina for an abdominal surgery. I am an RN and have never heard of or seen that. -

I cannot see any reason why it would need to be shaved for gastric surgery, in fact shaving any area that a surgery is being performed on increases risk of infection due to nics and scratches -
What, specifically, caused you to become obese?
MayMarie replied to careya123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been overweight since at least Kindergarten. I have a picture of my birthday party in 1st grade and I was almost a solid foot taller and twice the size of the other girls. Obesity definitely runs in my dads side of the family. So genes, never being taught better, feeling too hopeless to do anything about by the time I was a 200lb and growing middle schooler? -

Yes I had surgery on 1/18 and I'm currently in the full liquid phase. I never thought I'd be so excited to eat pureed food but February 2nd can't come soon enough -

Don't mean to intrude but I saw Larosas mentioned and had to comment! I'm from NKY and currently dreaming of a warm slice of Larosas pizza thanks to your post! -
I had to go on the full desktop website. Couldn't do it from the app unfortunately.

Early 2016 - what are you streaming on netflix, amazon etc?
MayMarie replied to CowgirlJane's topic in The Lounge
Oh and Bones! (Netflix, 10 seasons, think it's still airing). A forensic anthropologist and her lab team up with an FBI agent to catch bad guys. -

Nurse Jackie (7 seasons - complete series) is on Netflix. It's about an ER nurse in NYC who is addicted to pills and leads a kind of double life. New Girl (4 seasons - still airing) is also on Netflix. Sitcom about 3 guys and a girl sharing an apartment. Very funny and quirky. -
Also throughout the day use your incentive spirometer if they sent you home with one. If not take deep breaths and try to cough every hour or so. This will help clear out your lungs and make sure nothing is just settling in there.

Continue bracing with the pillow. This provides support to your abdominal muscles. If you have a particularly painful coughing fit you could also ice your incisions afterward for some relief. If your coughing that much you need to contact your surgeon. Pneumonia is always a risk after any surgical procedure but especially abdominal surgeries that make breathing and coughing more painful. -Registered Nurse and Sleeve Patient

Are you hiccuping a lot or just when drinking or eating, etc? Hiccuping can be a sign that you're full or going too fast.

My surgeon must be really conservative. 2 weeks full liquid, 2 weeks purée, 2 weeks soft, then slowly introduce solid foods
-
You're allowed to eat that?? I'm on full liquids until February 1st

I was sleeved on 1/18 as well! Really struggling with getting my fluids and protein.

Tuesday (the 26th) was 8 days since my surgery. The first day or two home I had some pain but it has been smooth sailing since then (for the most part). Tuesday morning I woke up and felt very bloated and weak. Throughout the day I passed some gas and took a gasx and felt a little better. I'm still having some discomfort from the bottom of my left ribs down to my left hip/back area and occasional left shoulder pain and chest pain which I attributed to gas. After reading about surgical complications some of these things can indicate a leak. My heart rate is 102 (the highest it has been since surgery) but I do not have (and have not had since surgery) a fever. My post-op appointment with my surgeon is tomorrow afternoon. Should I call in the morning or just wait it out til my appointment? Just concerned about the shoulder/chest pain since I have been pretty much pain free for days.

Hypochondriac or Problem?
MayMarie replied to MayMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doc said I'm probably just dehydrated and I should increase my fluid intake. Finding that a little hard to do :/
