    New Sleever Questions

I was sleeved on 5 Feb and coped ok with my fluids (mostly Soups & milk drinks) However, I ended up in hospital a week after coming home from surgery due to dehydration! I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks so was hard to drink your meals and then drink fluids for hydration. When I came out of hospital after being rehydrated, my surgeon suggested drinking hydralyte as that has electrolytes in it which is more beneficial than just plain Water. And like others have suggested, try flavouring your water. I have had no issues with the taste of water just hard to be sip, sip, sipping all day to get it in! Plus not drinking for 30 minutes before or after eating so there is 1 hour lost each time you eat!

    6 days post op...... diarrhea

I was adding benefiber to my liquid drinks to try and get my bowels moving after surgery and my first BM was ok but still a struggle so I too took laxatives over 2 days to get things going and ended up back in hospital because I was severely dehydrated! Be careful with laxatives/stool softeners as they can dry you up very quickly and if you arent getting enough Water in, then its not good. Since coming back out of hospital after I was re-hydrated most of my BM (which havent been many) have been diarrhea with lots of pain just before hand.
  4. Hi animal lover, I personally only experienced nausea in hospital after my surgery and thats it. I am 25 days out. I have experienced a bit of heartburn and an "uncomfortable" feeling when I have eaten something that doesnt agree with me or eaten more than I should have but not to the point of wanting to vomit. Definately contact your surgeon. Hope it resolves soon.
  5. Good luck for today Lizz!!! keep us posted Sylvi, Im doing ok thanks. I ended up back in hospital a week after coming out as I was VERY dehydrated! My blood pressure was very low and my heart rate was slow too. I had to stay overnight and they put 4 IV bags into me so now Im very conscience of how much Water I am drinking! I found it very hard being on the Fluid diet drinking my meals and then drinking water on top of that. Im now on "real" food and its alot easier to keep track of "food" and "fluid" if that makes sense! So my advice is to make sure you keep hydrated. I started drinking hydralyte so the little fluid I was getting in was actually doing more than just water alone. Good luck with your appointments today kiwi and let us know when you get a date

    Pre op diet?

Hi there, Im having my surgery on 5 Feb too!! Im finding the pre-op diet very hard. Im allowed to have 4 replacemeal meal shakes or bars together with at least 2 cups of non-starchy veggies with lunch & dinner and I can swap either lunch or dinner for a "real meal" which is a small serve of Protein with veggies. Ive lost 2kgs in a week Good luck everyone!!

    ~2 Week Liquid Diet~

I started my Optisfast 2 week diet on Friday and the first few days were VERY hard!!! I got lots of headaches and felt tired. Today is day 3 and after a big sleep in, Im not feeling too bad. Im allowed to replace 1 Optifast meal for a "real meal" which consists of a palm-size piece of meat or 2 small eggs together with the required 2 cups of low starch vegetables with it (and 2 cups of veggies) with lunch. I picked up a cookbook from my clinic that has recipes for each "phase" you go through so have made a lovely mixed vegetable soup and a vegetable curry that has been a nice addition to the Optifast shakes. I also added some vanilla essence to the shakes to make them a bit more "palatable"..lol I know that alot of pre-op diets vary depending on their surgeon but thats what Im allowed. Hope that helps and good luck
