    New to exercise...help

Sort of. I used to actually work in a gym and was very fit, worked out daily and sometimes more. Okay, that was 10 years ago. I don't know where to start now. I can walk on the treadmill or with my dogs but how do I build up? I tried getting on the elliptical machine...haha 2 minutes in I was huffing and puffing with a side ache. I used to stay on that thing for an hour!!! Any ideas on how advance beyond walking?

    Hiccups???

In the Realize band book they gave me it lists hiccups as a sign that your fill may be too tight. I'm not banded yet so I have no real idea about what I'm talking about!!
  3. I'm still doing well. Only6(almost 5!!!) days until surgery!!!!!!!!! I just can't wait. I had a meting with my surgeon's coordinator and she went over things for the day before/day of surgery...I was like "Can't they do it now???"

From first visit to surgery... how long?

Seminar first week in January...then all of the appointments/insurance crap...surgery April 23rd!!!!! So not quite 4 months for me.
  5. Smooth sailing on day 4.....I never thought I'd say this BUT, this isn't hard. After those first 2 days I've been really okay with this. I'm not really hungry, I've lost 6lbs and I'm just overall happy and ready for surgery. I'm feeling very calm. Most of my uneasiness regarding surgery had to do with worrying about my liquid diet. Oh and one more thing......... I LOVE THIS SITE!!!!!
  6. Bttrfli - I know!! I will say that by mid day on day 2, I was suddenly feeling much better. Still, I'd give my left arm for...well, anything, LOL!! Ugh....day 3 and going. Oh, anyone feel blah and tired from not eating? I really want some energy!

    New to exercise...help

I do okay on the treadmill. Today, I walked for 30 minutes at 3.0 on an incline of 3.0 That was fine. It just seems like if I try to do anything more it all goes to hell...I guess I'll have to be patient. I did just start this last week.
  8. Nesser - I LOVE it.... I'm going to print it! "If you think you can, you will. If you think you can't, you're right."

    4/23!!

YES!! I am on day two of liquids and yikes! I hear that the first few days are the worst so I am fully expecting it to get easier...are you doing a preop diet?
  10. Okay, day two. So far so good. I had a protein shake and 3 T of thinned cream of wheat, I think I'll do the same at lunch...I'm thinking of mixing like 1-2 T of cream of wheat into my shake instead of eating them seperately. Then maybe it'll just "stick" around longer. Oh, I've also found that sugar free fiber tablets help ease the hunger a bit too!

    4/23!!

    Me too - Omaha, Nebraska
  12. Well, I made it! I did mess up a little. When I was feeding my toddler dinner I just popped a piece of broccoli in my mouth and down the hatch. I wasn't hungry at the moment and didn't think about it either...just popped it right in like I normally would. I think the calories in a bite of broccoli is like 3-5 so I'm not too upset about it but it is strange to see how I just eat and don't even realize it.
  13. You guys are wonderful!!! So far so good, it's only 2pm though. I had a shake this morning before church...we went to my parent's house after church and they had egg bake, toast and strawberries...I sat with them but had my chicken broth. About an hour ago I was so hungry and telling myself "some people can have 3 oz of chicken or fish...maybe I can too" I quickly pushed that thought out, had two tablespoons of thinned cream of wheat(which is on my prescribed diet) and am feeling MUCH better now. Well, 1/2 day down... 9 1/2 to go!

Today was day one of the preop diet

Marisa - You are doing wonderfully!! I am on day one of liquids and wow, I had no idea what REAL hunger was! After church we all went to my parents house. I sat at the table with my entire family drinking chicken broth. They had egg bake, toast and fresh strawberries. I was fairly impressed with myself, I even cut up some strawberries for my 17 month old. I can't wait to be past these first couple of days.
  15. Thanks...I hope your call comes soon!
  16. I have to say I disagree with the "presumptuousness" comment. As a nurse myself and being married to a physician I really hope you know that doctors or any medical staff for that matter are NOT perfect and do NOT know everything. I trust my doctor, as each of you probably do but if there ever arose a situation where I doubted information that I also had researched, I too would question it and probably get a 2nd opinion. That is just being proactive. No one is going too look out for you, like you!

    Lap Band vs. Realize Band?

I left it up to my doctor although I researched both. For me, it came down to the fact that I have trust that once he sees my insides, he'll know which will be best. He thinks he'll use the realize band. Basically he told me that larger people tend to have a "thicker" stomach and the old band is more rigid so is better for those situations. It's less likely to slip. The realize band is wider but more pliable and he said it may be a bit more comfy and less likely to cause food to get stuck. He said at my weight, I am a good candidate for either. I told him to hold off on deciding until he takes a look inside, lol!!

    April 23 anyone?

Hmm, I might be the only one of us having to do the 10 days of liquids?? I'm so ready that I just feel like "BRING IT ON!!" We'll see how I feel on Sunday, lol!
  21. It's certainly up to you. There is nothing wrong with requesting they not come. Maybe you could ask them to come at a different time - after the surgery, when you get home, once you've been on the mend for a day or two or whatever you are comfortable with. This isn't about them. Tell them you are uneasy and prefer to visit with them after the surgery but not before.

    April 23 anyone?

Me too!! I'm scheduled for the 23rd in Omaha at 9:30...I have to be there at 7:30!
  23. My doc said I could resume the next day
  24. Ugh...mine got moved too!! Just from the 16th to the 23rd though. My surgeon is going to Aruba, at least he'll be relaxed and refreshed when he does my surgery.
  25. Here in Omaha, my surgeon does all of his fills/unfills with fluoroscopy and they are $150.
