    Embarrassing Question

I haven't read all of the posts but just to put you at ease...you will be covered with a surgical drape and only the small area on your belly that they are workiing on will be exposed. I also have to tell you as a nurse, it's sooooo true one you've seen one naked patient you've seen them all!!

    Already Testing...

I think you got a lot of good advice, and maybe a little harsh criticism(although probably true). I think you're probably beating yourself up over this enough that you don't need more of that....BUT it is important to figure out why this happened so that it doesn't happen again. Plan your meals, have "safe" food or snacks with you so that if you find yourself suddenly hungry you have something that is okay to eat, avoid all drive thru windows at all costs...not even for a drink, we all know where that leads. But more than anything, let this go. You are a success and you can do this, you've got all of us on your side.

    Catheter?

Nope, not me. They told me if you have high bp they sometimes will put one in.
  5. Well, I was given basically the same orders. Today is PO day 8. Last night for dinner I had some really soft and tender chicken breast sauteed with mushrooms, broccoli and carrots in a light brown sauce. Everything was very tender and I chewed up a storm. It was awesome and sat very well with me.
  6. I had my one week follow up today and it went well. He asked if I was hungry and I said "Yeah, getting there" and he said "Okay, eat". Hmmm. That was easy I guess. He gave me a list with soft and tender meats(not beef), seafood, soft cooked veggies etc. Tonight I had very soft chicken breast sauteed in a brown sauce with mushroom, broccoli and carrots. I ate leass than 1/2 cup but it was DELICIOUS!!! The chicken was super tender and pretty much fell apart in my mouth. That was about 3 1/2 hours ago and I'm still feeling great.

    I week follow up appointment

You can use any type of marinade/dressing/oil soy sauce...whatever you like. If you go to the marinade/dressing section in te grocery store you can find many low cal options. Just poor enough in a pan for the amount you're cooking, toss in some veggies and cook on med-low until soft.

  9. I don't have any good advice for you but just wanted to say that your post made me teary. You are an AMAZING mom and I can't imagine that you'll ever make her feel anything less than spectacular!! You got some good advice as far as keeping about your health and maybe not even mentioning the weight.

    Upper Gi !?!?!?!?!?!?!

I didn't have any fizzy stuff. They basically just xray you while you drink barium. Lay on your left side, lay on your back etc. I guess a good way to say it is that you roll around on their table drinking barium while they xray you, haha!!
  11. Baked fish is very soft and low cal/high protein.

    I week follow up appointment

He listed poultry, fish including shellfish, all mushies, soft cooked vegetables, soft fruits - no seeds, nuts, pasta, bread or rice yet. I can have toast or other "dry breads".
  13. Quite honestly, I would say that other than some liquids ie - protein drinks, broth, sf jello etc you won't really need anything. I didn't use anything at all other my liquids

    Left-overs

I'm not eating meats yet but my nutritionist told me that meats don't go so well the 2nd time around because they get so dry. She recommended only making very small portions for that reason. Tyson makes a bag of frozen chicken breast strips(think fajita style) and you can pull out a few strips and heat, haven't tried them yet but she said they're great. Three oz has 100 calories, 1g fat and 17g of protein!!
  15. Your surgeon sounds similar to mine. I haven't progressed as far though...just because I'm nervous. I did have some vegetable soup with very soft veggies, yogurt and oatmeal made quite thin. I have instructions to progress but have ben afraid to as of yet. My surgery was 7 days ago and I have a foloow up appointment today at 4pm, I was going to ask him about it again today.

    Calling All NURSES!!

I'm Jamie, BSN from Omaha, Nebraska. I'm 31 and have an 18 month old daughter. I worked in a post surgical unit for about 5 years and then worked in hospice. I did that for about 3 years. I haven't worked since my daughter was born but I plan on going back 2 days a week(8's not 12's) toward the end of summer. GO NURSES!

Unusual question - not sure where it goes

In my opinion it's all a matter of what you need to do within reason. I have an 18 month old daughter and 2 days after surgery I was picking her up and carrying her because I had to. Now, when I say within reason...obviously my 20lb daughter and your 140lb husband should not be compared but two weeks sounds reasonable. I'm a week out and still pretty sore in the port area and can definitely tell when I've been nending/lifting/stretching too much.
  18. Do you take a good vitamin with iron?? If not, I would start taking one and hopefully your counts will be normal in no time!

    I am Perfect :)

I've got one that may even beat that....we were talking about which band to use/outcome of surgery etc and my surgeon said "We could really do just about anything since you have so little to lose." Hahahahahahahaha......I was 275.2lbs that day, so LITTLE to lose. I think I laughed all the way home!

    Are most having chewable vitamins

I take a regular vitamin because mine is RX due to another condition I have. I started taking them again on post op day #2 and have had no problems. It isn't a huge one though.
  21. I never had a doubt and fought tooth and nail every step of the way until band-day. However, as I was sitting in the preop room, all I could think was 'What am I doing?' For that entire hour I doubted myself, kept thinking 'What if it doesn't work?', I think it was mostly nerves. Now though, only 6 days later I am already thankful and so happy that I followed through. My weight is already dropping, I feel renewed. Good luck to you in your decision.
  22. I'm down 7 lbs in 6 days since the band.
  23. I'm glad your port is doing fine...great job on the weightloss!! What have you been eating up until this point, full liquids? My doc is a bit liberal. I'm only 5 days out and am on full liquids...is that what you did too?
  24. I too still am a little uncomfy with the big deep breaths in. It is quite normal though. I am an RN and worked in a post surgical unit for a few years awhile back. That is the reason they have RT come in and do the breathing exercises with you after surgery. People don't want to breath deeply because it's uncomfortable which can lead to pneumonia etc. Keep puffing away, it'll ease soon.
  25. I'm only 5 days out but not hungry at all. I am on full liquids and things like yogurt or cream soup sit with me for a long time(think brick sitting in your stomach). I realize I am still healing but so far so good. I actually have to remember to eat so that I can get a decent amount of water/protein in.
