What mushies do you/did you eat?
pearlygirl replied to Sarah.R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Grossefemme - I tried your little recipe for my afternoon snack...DELICIOUS!!!! It was 85 calories and 10g of protein, fabulous idea. -
My paperwork said no popcorn for 8 weeks after surgery.

Don,t drink when eating
pearlygirl replied to mari12524's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found it to be an okay adjustment. I drink an 8 oz glass of water about 15 minutes before my meals. This way it tricks my mind a little and I don't feel as thirsty because I just had a glass of water. I find now that by the time an hour rolls around I have forgotten so it is sometimes hard to get my fluids in. I end up drinking quite a bit of water or crystal light in the evenings and the have to be during the night, lol! At least it isn't as bad as being pregnant!! -
I take an RX vitamin because of a clotting disorder I have(has some extra stuff in it) and it doesn't come in a chewable form. I have taken mine whole since the day after surgery. It isn't particularly large though, kind of long and skinny.

Salsa - I LOVED your post. I think that so much of it can be used for many things in life other than just eating too.

What happens during an echocardiogram?
pearlygirl replied to Long2BFree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The echocardiogram is the ultrasound type test, it can last for up t0 20 minutes or so depending on how quickly they're able to fin what they're looking for. For the EKG they put 12 or so little stickers(leads) on your chest, arms and legs to get a reading of your heart. I takes like 3 minutes. -
What mushies do you/did you eat?
pearlygirl replied to Sarah.R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite(and many others on here) was refried beans with light cheese and a dab of FF sour cream, delicious! I put hot sauce in it too. Also cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, baked/mashed potato, yogurt, blended soups, oatmeal, applesauce, baked fish, string cheese chewed very well, was on my MD's list of mushies. I thought it to be a bit strange until I tried it and it really does just melt into a mushy as you chew it. -
Can't stop eating!
pearlygirl replied to okpunkinpie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would avoid rough foods for sure - beef, lettuce, popcorn, nuts, seeds etc. That's asking your stmach to work way to hard, dangerously hard. You're just two weeks out. Call your doc and get his/her advice and be careful! -
who supports right to choose
pearlygirl replied to 396power's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow. Interesting thread. I suffer from infertility and with GREAT medical intervention finally became pregnant in the Spring of 2006. My pregnancy was rough. I had severe preeclampsia early in my pregnancy and spent 4 weeks in the hospital before my miracle was born at 30 weeks. She weighed 2 1/2lbs and was 14 inches long. She was ventilated, required surgery and fought for her life for many weeks. After two months, my sweet baby came home at 4lbs 15oz. She's 18 months now - PERFECTLY healthy and developmentally normal. A true miracle. I would not have an abortion, there is just no way I could with all that we've been through. Having said all of that, I am very pro-choice. I hate to think about abortion and wish that like me, people didn't view it as an option. But I am not naive. I know that there are people and circumstances where it just may seem to be the best option for some. Sad, really sad but I feel pretty strongly that it is a personal decision and should be left to be just that. -
Realize band...first fill...how much...
pearlygirl replied to pearlygirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks! I do go to their site but haven't found that info yet, I must be looking in the wrong place. Holy cow, 5cc at their first fill!? That seems pretty intense. -
...and I have to say I'm a little nervous. I only have to do it for 10 days but geesh, if this was going to be easy, I wouldn't be fat in the first place!! I feel very confident that I won't mess it up or cheat, it's my nature and strong will to follow through. I'm just a little nervous though. I know hunger isn't going to kill me but it does make me uneasy, like many of you - food is a comfort to me. Well...here goes the security blanket! Wish me well.

I go back and forth, I was spanked occassionally as a kid, not beat by any means. I do strongly feel that it should be a last resort AND that the parent should not be angry when they spank ie - send the kid to their room so you can both cool off and then spank them when you aren't angry. Sometimes I think spanking just makes the parent feel better as they are so frazzled and upset with their child, and then the guilt after they've done it. My daughter is only 18 months so there has been no need for spanking here yet.

How soon after surgery could you eat
pearlygirl replied to BIGDSWIFE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was clears for two days, fulls until the end of the first week and then soft proteins as stated above on PO day 8. -
It looks sort of triangular before it is filled and on your stomach but when it is filled and with the resistance of your stomach it is perfectly round. My two favorite features are being wider and more pliable causing less 'stuck' episodes.

How soon after surgery could you eat raw veggies/salads?
pearlygirl replied to singermama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon/nut said at 8 weeks everything is free game. I can't wait either. I have been craving salad/fresh spinach like crazy!! -
I just wanted to say that some your students may be confused because there are so many instructors who prefer to be called by their first name. If you don't like it, SAY SOMETHING! I made it through a psychology degree and a nursing degree and only had a handful of instructors that I didn't call by a first name. As a matter of fact, the head of the nursing program(who had a doctorate) preferred we call her Carol. It may have nothing do with lack of respect at all.

Wow!! Amazing weight loss. I was banded by the same doc(I live in Omaha) on the 23rd of April...almost 2 weeks ago. I am 31 and a mother to one 18 month old girl. Great to meet you.
-
The main benefits of the Realize band that my doctor explained were - 1. Awesome website/tracking that is linked to your docs office so that they can look up your progress as well. 2. Wider band makes slippage less likely 3. More pliable band is more comfortable and because it is less rigid food is less likely to get stuck This is info from my surgeon. I was only banded on the 23rd but am already eating soft foods, do feel some restriction and am LOVING my band!!

12 days since surgery and feel like crap
pearlygirl replied to beginnings's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you'll start to feel much better once you can have some real food. As soon as I got fish/chicken/veggies/eggs/oatmeal, I felt 100% better. The protein drinks are fine and certainly help but like I said, as soon as I got real and natural nutrients I felt like myself within a day. -
This is actually quite comical. Since I am eating no junk food it is sticking around a lot longer. My husband and daughter were having cheetos last night and brought them back into the kitchen complaining that they were stale. Hahahahaha....never would have had stale cheetos before!! So there you have it my first NSV is having the ability to keep cheetos in my house long enough to have to throw them out!

Port below Bikini Line
pearlygirl replied to *Love*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ahhh, that does sound much better than what I pictured. When you said "below the bikini line" I thought below the pubic hair line....I'm so glad that isn't what you meant!!! -
Can bandsters eat corn on the cob?
pearlygirl replied to angelface's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gosh I hope so!! I live in Nebraska...you know the CORNHUSKERS!? Hahaha!! Here you can buy it at the farmer's markets or fresh fruit and veggie stands, they don't charge much at all. I'll have to ship out some Husker corn to you guys  -
Port below Bikini Line
pearlygirl replied to *Love*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds horrific!! Pardon the vulgarity but I'd rather have a bump in my belly where it can be easily hidden than on my snatch!! Can you imagine how that would look in a bathing suit? -
How long will I need help?
pearlygirl replied to Cristi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
